We’re getting better but without 2 or 3 pacy attacking threats added in the window,we are nowhere near in with a promotion chance
Today could have done with a pacey threat off the bench , not sure where Kanu is but having Godden,Ahadme and Hylton as attacking options off the bench isn't great for pace
Consecutive wins is obviously very welcome but ultimately I’m left feeling a bit flat at the end of that. 2-1 at home to a terrible team doesn’t fill me with hope for the next few games. I don’t think Wycombe will be too concerned at the prospect of playing us.
They genuinely weren’t that bad?
They’ve lost 8 out of 11 away from home - that’s what I meant by a terrible team. The fact that we hung on for a 2-1 win tells you something about us, doesn’t it?
Not really to be honest.
We battered then in the first half. Then old habits and fragilities kicked in and we became nervous and played on the back foot.
We had our chances in the second half to make it more comfortable as well as cambridges opportunities.
We hung on relatively comfortably in the end.
not great but job done
Battered them? Can't remember their keeper having to make a save all game. Some may think my comments negative after a win and I accept that but at no point were we even close to battering them.

Back-to-back wins and no league defeat in 4. Plenty of Wycombe fans will be thinking "we're playing them at just the wrong time". We'd feel the same if the positions were reversed
Wycombe haven't lost in months. Their run has to come to an end sometime & we usually play better against the top teams.

Negative?? Whatever gives you that idea?
you apparently get no joy from a win that isn’t a dominant display.

I think that saying we battered them in the first half is equally absurd as the comments that we were "hanging on" in the second. The two early goals by us were the only real moments of quality that either team managed in the whole game - their goal was not that special and really could and should have been cut off much earlier.
It was not a good game. There were two pretty mediocre sides out there but we looked much "less bad" at least. But winning without playing well is very important for form and confidence so ultimately today has to be a positive, just a qualified one.

You must have a dodgy memory. We had better chances for 3-1 than they did 2-2 but for a couple of good saves from their bloke.

"Hanging on" is a bit harsh given there was only one 15-20 minute period where we were under any kind of genuine pressure.
Conceding the goal was bad, and it was a very poor goal to let in, but we were hardly being played off the pitch and throwing desperate blocks in.
They hit the post Had a shot deflected wide Played the ball on the floor whilst we played hoof ball to our 6ft 4 striker.
Last 5 mins we were taking it into the corner flag hoping for a Tony Watt moment.
When we did attack it was really only Berry troubling their keeper.
We will huff & puff until May but wont look convincing. I'm predicting we finish between 8th & 12th.
Quite enjoyed the game, thought we looked a lot better and played some decent football which we haven’t seen lately. Didn’t think they were too bad of a side and better than a lot we’ve lost to or drawn with recently. The two full back changes they made gave them a lot of energy from the off in the 2nd half and it caught us by surprise I think. We need a new keeper, we need to replace Gillesphey, need Ramsey back and some real quality in midfield, and a CBT type player still not convinced by TC although he took his goal well and had a decent game overall.

Surely the better chances would have been for 3-0 not 3-1 as he certainly didn't have a save to make second half, closest we came was a deflected Small shot that squirmed past the post.
Edit - Apologies, remember now a long range Docherty effort he had to save.
Thought we were fairly comfortable other than Cambridge's good spell after half time when they scored and hit the post.
At that point we were wobbling but they didn't really hurt us after that.
Not every win is going to be as easy as Northampton and it is just these sort of games, v strugglers, that we've struggled in over recent years.
Still not the finished article as the two missed tackles that lead to their goal showed but when we play with confidence, TC being the prime example, we can produce some good stuff.
Docherty is improving, bar that missed tackle, TC and Leaburn give us a potent attack and I'm really pleased that before scored again. Small is a good stand-in winger but we still need better. Ramsay's return is still eagerly awaited.
Berry didn't have a good day and a new No.10 is a must.
L Jones makes a huge difference. We no longer look at soft touch.

He made two good saves from Luke Berry as well that you’ve forgotten about, both came after the Cambridge goal. Docherty’s effort was before their goal and would’ve been 3-0.
They didn’t have another shot on target the rest of the game.
Sick of watching Gillesphey slice clearances, get out muscled and generally do a decent impression of a baby giraffe week after week. How bad has he got to be before he is dropped? Surely Potts has got to be worth a run?
The bench is constantly unbalanced as well. Why has he got Campbell and Anderson there? Surely Campbell comes out for Taylor? Why is Hylton there ahead of Kanu? Kanu at least gives you an option to play some one a bit wider and a bit of pace.
We made hard work of that and Jones was out thought imo. The lack of reaction to their half time subs and formation change was incredibly frustrating. No subs till the 89th minute was baffling.
Positives for me, we are at least trying to knock it about on the floor a bit and we won a game 3/4 weeks ago we'd have struggled to draw.
Looked good at times but the table doesnt lie. The top four are way ahead so fifth is best we can hope for. At 2-0 we should have finished them off but let them back in. As I said previously even if we are promoted whats the point - this team will be favourites for relegation from Championship.

That’s a new negative perspective that I expected later in the season if we looked like getting into the top six. You’re jumping the gun, come back in a few weeks after hopefully a few more wins.
Very much an exhibition of Jones's tactical approach.
The positives: 3 points; bright start; not folding when Cambs U got back into the game; physical approach; restricting then to a single goal, meaning we have still conceded less than one per game
The negatives: only playing a solitary recognized striker; not really creating a definite scoring chance after the opening 20 minutes; huffing and hoofing the ball everywhere; on occasion standing back too much and allowing Cambs U to "play" thus making the last 30 minutes touch and go
Obviously, we all hope form continues to improve and a run develops. But...I'd be surprised (pleasantly) if we were in the mix come April.

I can't remember either of the saves from Berry. I'm sure I was there too. Maybe I wasn't after all 🤔

When we sacked Appleton we had 30 points from 28 games.
We have 30 points from 21 games this season.
Oh goodie. Dunno what you are on but again today that was unacceptable. Very poor indeed. We won but I got no pleasure out of that. Anyone who thinks that's good enough has low standards.
Anyone who has watched us over the last few seasons (all of us) has pretty low standards. What we all want is out of this league. Winning by the odd goal is enough to get promotion, if you do it often enough. It worked for SCP. Some of his games were drab to be fair, but we had a solid defence and knew that our defence gave us a fighting chance of a win. Jones is getting that right more often than the previous managers. If the strikers can do their bit, we will climb the table. We also need the midfield to click and THEN we might be closer to a promotion than we think.
I've watched 19 games this season so unless Jones is David Blaine in disguise, I'm under no illusion. We are still way off a comfortable play-off spot.
The owners are saying it's all long-term, which whilst reassuring as to their commitment, I'd prefer it to be, "We also want it now and will therefore put in place the necessary resources and people on and off the pitch to achieve that!"
It's a win but I'm in agreement with most that it should have been more comprehensive. Both teams didn't start the second half as they finished the first. Cambridge came out and gave it a go and it took us 15 to 20 minutes to come to grips with them playing further up the field, in that time two tame tackles in succession, the first Gillesphey and the second by Edwards, I think, led to the goal. With their tails up and nothing to lose, Cambridge then hit the bar, a few choice words from Nathan Jones to senior players and we were back in control and were not troubled for the last twenty mins. The standouts for me were Thierry Small and the three down the middle Jones, Docherty and Leaburn. I don't agree with Nathan Jones assessment of Tyreece Campbell's performance, got his goal and should have terrorised them but didn't.
Great start, naff game overall. Cambridge are very poor, I saw nothing that made me think we could challenge. But a win is a win and it keeps the play off places in reach. If we can find a way to beat Wycombe and Reading then add in January we would have a chance. I don't really believe it likely currently though.

Today could have done with a pacey threat off the bench , not sure where Kanu is but having Godden,Ahadme and Hylton as attacking options off the bench isn't great for pace
