  • When we sacked Appleton we had 30 points from 28 games.

We have 30 points from 21 games this season.
Oh goodie. Dunno what you are on but again today that was unacceptable. Very poor indeed. We won but I got no pleasure out of that. Anyone who thinks that's good enough has low standards.
Apologies that the improvement in points collected doesn’t meet your standards.
Yeah points wise it's an improvement but it was a very low bar to improve on. And the football been awful. Heyho.

Consecutive wins is obviously very welcome but  ultimately I’m left feeling a bit flat at the end of that. 2-1 at home to a terrible team doesn’t fill me with hope for the next few games. I don’t think Wycombe will be too concerned at the prospect of playing us.
    They genuinely weren’t that bad?
They’ve lost 8 out of 11 away from home - that’s what I meant by a terrible team. The fact that we hung on for a 2-1 win tells you something about us, doesn’t it?
  • A win is a win and a bit of momentum is exactly what we needed.  I thought we were pretty poor and I certainly didn’t recognise the performance that Jones talked about in his interview but that’s pretty much par for the course.   Gets us away from the relegation zone once and for all I think and somehow we are touch of the playoffs. Let’s see what January brings.  I’m not a Jones fan as I have made no secret but this little run buys him the rest of the season and he deserves that. I’m not convinced but it’s better than where we were a month ago.
  • Think the first 15 mins of the second half might be looked back on as very important, should be a reminder not to get complacent

Started very well and to be 2 up after just 20 mins was very pleasing. We saw the first half out well, but whatever happened at HT, we were so slow out of the blocks at the beginning of the 2nd and were on the back foot.
They made changes and looked a different proposition, scoring on 51 mins. They then pushed forward and we seemed all at sea and were lucky when they hit the post.
We came back into it again later on, but didn't look like scoring tbh.
Yes it was 3 more points, but hardly a convincing performance. Some players need to be moved on and new, better quality ones added, urgently.
Can we make the play offs, yes of course as there's still 25 games to play, will we? Not unless we refresh the squad! So it's over to the owners to either put their hands in their deep pockets or accept we'll stay here for another season, if they decide on the former course of action, bin Scott and Co. off first or it'll be more money wasted!

The 3 games out of 11 we have won since we beat Birmingham on October 5 are all against teams in the bottom 5.
    No corner turned yet.
Happy for the win of course but let's see how we do with Wycombe and Reading.
Wycombe will be tough - they have the best away record in the division with eight wins, three draws and only one defeat which came on the opening day away at Wrexham. Would take a point and continue the unbeaten run.

Reading on the other hand have only 2 wins from 11 away and under a new manager we should be targeting them to gain ground.

I thought we suffered from the lack of attacking subs who could have really worried them. Problem is we had no one like that on the bench. No striker or winger with pace, no attacking midfielder. Kanu despite his limitations is the closest outside of the players who didn’t start and he wasn’t on the bench - injury or illness? I thought someone said he warmed up against Northampton despite not being a sub.
  • A laboured victory after being 2 up in 20 minutes.
At least we accepted the two Xmas gifts with both TC in a wider position managing to get on to the Leaburn hook and Miles header from the long throw from Edwards and the assist from Gillesphey.

Cambridge were much better going forward than Burton or Northampton but we are such a frustrating team to watch.
Two tackles missed by Gillesphey and Berry in midfield and then the ball goes wide and a cross and 2-1.

3 days to recover and at least we have back to back wins but we continue to look a mid table team other than 3 matches this season.

We will have to improve against a solid consistent Wycombe team who scored 3 at Stevenage to remain in the Promotion sandwich between Wrexham and Birmingham.
  • Happy with positive results that keep the season alive. We want and need more of them. Enjoy the rest of your boxing day all.

    Not really to be honest.

We battered then in the first half. Then old habits and fragilities kicked in and we became nervous and played on the back foot.

We had our chances in the second half to make it more comfortable as well as cambridges opportunities.

We hung on relatively comfortably in the end.

    not great but job done
I don’t really disagree with that assessment, but I think ‘battered’ is generous. If they had a half decent keeper we’d have gone in 0-0 at half time.
After the miracle of Northampton I was hoping for a performance that would convince me that we could be promotion contenders and that wasn’t it.
Fair enough. I thought we were pretty dominant first half. Everyone sees us differently I guess.

it takes more than one game to have fully turned the ship around. I’ll judge end of jan

  • Still don't get this team.  League One is a puzzle as well, ain't it?

Agreed but … apart from 4 games where they have been free scoring … their results are not that special.
  • That was exactly the type of game we would have drawn or lost previously. We always drop points against teams we should beat so that’s a massive positive for me. Beat (or draw) Wycombe and we can start to dream
  • Two evenly matched sides with Cambridge being the slightly bettter / more fluent side going forward.

Fortunately for us their keeper was awful & gifted us two goals & a welcomed 3 points.
  • Thought that was a deserved but unconvincing win against a very poor side that on another day could’ve gone against or certainly been drawn. A cheap early goal helped us and the second was dreadfully defended too , I don’t think we did much to frighten them but there were positive signs in particular Coventry I thought was good and Small, despite being hit or miss, looked threatening and at least trying to impact / make something happen.

Nonetheless, a long way away from being a performance of a play off side
