  • Like most people I thought NJ was the man to take us forward, I’m in the “we can’t keep sacking managers after 6-12 months “
But Jesus that was shit last night and I’m struggling my above thoughts!
With the shit football and lack of interest from supporters ( the atmosphere is shit, songs are shit, just no interest) me included, we seem to be drifting into a bowyer moment, someone to galvanise us all and rejuvenate, but I’m worried as before we’ve had a good few “Charlton people “in and around, but now? Yes there are a couple of names I here regularly but I’m not sure how influential they are compared to previous people, that few years have been shit but im worried there is no one within the club who knows or cares what is needed.
  • No great love for this squad of players we have at our disposal but with the right formation and team selection they should be good enough to be beating teams like Crawley at home - so this is all on Jones IMO. One glaring gap in the squad which has been a problem for years is the lack of leaders on the pitch - our heads drop whenever we concede and you just know we aren't going to turn it round.

I feel worse this morning than I did at the game and after the game last night.
That is because even if Jones goes, we are still weighed down by Alan Campbell, Danny Hylton, Greg Docherty, Luke Berry, bless him Gassan Ahadme, and bless him Dan Potts, and even Godden to an extent.
If you want to know how I feel, well if we are going to get beaten and play crap, then play our own youngsters (who won’t play crap anyway).
I think it is entirely possible that the recent Lloyd Jones absence is a precursor to him leaving very soon, and the situation with Miles Leaburn is highly suspicious.
I will not repeat what I heard about the nature of the Dixon shenanigans.
I know it will sound very odd indeed, but I would (if it can be afforded) sack Jones and bring back the available Dean Holden as a temporary measure for now. At least he wasn’t contemptuous of the fans as Scott, Methven, and Rodwell certainly are, and Nathan Jones has revealed his distain for us fans on more than one occasion, including last night.

  • Calm of the morning after and trying to look at the overall picture, not good but here goes. Firstly the balance of the squad, look at the right side of the defence, REG, Watson, Ramsay Alex Mitchell and Zach Mitchell, now the left side Lloyd Jones, Gillisphrey Edwards and Edun, a soon to be departing Small. This imbalance goes right through the squad. The forwards, seven forwards, yes seven, Gas, Godden Kanu, Leaburn Chuks Tryreece Campbell and Hylton. I didnt by pass our midfield although most of the opposition do. The twins, Taylor and Coventry, Anderson, Berry, Allan Campbell and Docherty. We have squad of twenty eight players and there is no balance, all midfield players are central, six centre mids, no width, there is no width in the twenty eight man squad. As much as I think Nathan Jones is culpable, I don't think he will be leaving and changing the Manager won't achieve a lot considering the way the squad is structured. I was concerned with some players body language last night and with the January window approaching I'm wondering if certain players are of the opinion that they may be leaving the building, in my opinion at least eight could leave the squad and some of those were brought in by the current owners. It's definitely a work in progress but sadly it's at least another season in this division.
  • Genuinely feel like we'd all have more joy supporting a phoenix side at this point

  • I'm still baffled why we recalled Asiimwe from his loan spell, yet refuse to play him.

With that starting formation we had a narrow midfield, so the width had to come from the full backs. Except on the right we had an out of position CB, so had ZERO threat down that side. That game was perfect for Asiimwe, who might not be the best defensively, but loves to get forward, which is what our starting formation needed.

And why Laqeretabua on the bench, and why bring him on? Not his fault, but when he came on he looked completely at sea, getting a nose bleed when crossing the half way line.
I don't think we recalled Assimwe did we? I think it was a one-month loan that we chose not to extend. Not that it makes a huge difference.

Hartlepool wanted to extend it though so we effectively did
  • We somehow made a league one relegation side look more like a good Championship one. It's time for Jones, his tactics and every one of his Luton rejects to foxtrot oscar.
  • Far too depressed to read other comments yet.

    Jones needs to go NOW.

I was not impressed from day one, but he kept us up and (like many) I was excited for this season. But fast forward to the first game and it was clear for all to see that the whole setup of the squad was wrong, with no width (even if you plan to play without wingers, you need a plan b for when it's obviously not working) and no creative outlet in the midfield. The football we've been playing this season is the worst I've witnessed in 40 years, and that includes the toxic squad that SCP inherited. I actually think that our squad is okay, but there's just too many vital ingredients missing. It's a bit like trying to bake a cake with just flour and water. The players look lost, like they either don't understand his tactics, or simply don't buy into them. I have absolutely zero coaching experience, but I can clearly see that it doesn't work to have 2 big men up top and lumping it up to them like we are doing. It leaves them with 2 options, either flick it on and hope someone has made a run behind them, or they control the ball with their backs to goal, meaning it ends up being played back to where it's come from. Miles & Gas will only thrive from pace out wide and crosses in the danger area, with them running forward to meet it. I'm not at the point of slagging off the players, as I think a couple of key additions and the right man at the helm and we could easily kick on. Jones is definitely not that man. I like to think he'd walk, but his ego won't allow that, and I also think he's a busted flush now and would find it extremely hard to get another gig.

So basically, unless the owners make a hard call, we're stuck with him and we're fucked.
  • I guess the good news for the club is that I, and probably others, already bought my ticket for the away fixture on new year's day 🤦

    Jones has to go.

Those saying what will that achieve I ask one question.

What is Nathan Jones giving us that any manager in this league wouldn't? What sets him apart? Why settle for second best?

He sold our one and only goal threat from last season and seemingly bragged about it after beating a team a division below in the cup

He committed to a formation in the summer which he now doesn't play and only left us with one first team winger

The only game where I've thought yeah he got that spot on was the Birmingham game. Then he proceeded to use that formation come what may even when it wasn't working

17 league games in and I don't believe he knows his best midfield or even his best team

He must know that if he mucks this up he'll be on the managerial scrap heap for a while as that's two jobs in a row he's messed up.

We need to find someone that wants to play football. NJ is basing our whole game plan on percentages. Hit it long get a flick on and 1 out of 5 will land to a forward to score. That is ancient football. We instantly look better with people out wide but he never starts them. Clueless or stubborn? Either way I've had enough. I wouldn't mind loosing if we played well I think the majority of us are the same

This sums it up very well. However, I’m reluctant for us to shift yet another manager and am hoping that last night inspires Jones to include some pace, width and creativity in the team and the names Small and T Campbell are in the starting line up on Saturday and thereafter. If he doesn’t change his ways after that tripe, chances are he never will and he may as well jog on.

One point to add to the post above is that, after Jones bragging about how great Godden has done (which I don’t disagree with), he promptly played him in midfield in a role that looked completely foreign to him. It also contributed to them scoring the second goal…..
Think we could start Small as a Left Winger with Campbell on the right. 2 CMs and 2 Strikers and a flat back 4. Solid and looking dangerous going forward with pace.

The squad for me is decent but I just feel they arent being used to the best of there abilities.
It also looks like they're being asked to play a way that none of them really want to play. A lot of them have been around football for a long time, and it's almost as if they're playing like they know the tactics are shit and more often than not won't really work.

Agreed. It's how a manager loses the dressing room. NJ should have apologised to the fans for last night's performance, but didn't seem bothered by it. He must be on borrowed time, but so too should Andy Scott be, but he seems to be untouchable. What the money men will do now, and when they do it, is the question.
  • just listened to Jones latest interview after the latest shite performance.
it’s quite clear he has no idea and unfortunately I don’t think the players like his tactics.
he clearly has caused a total lack of confidence and communication in the dressing room.
I think if we lose or draw the next two games he should Go 👍👍🎯🎯🎯

How much did people pay to watch that?
    Too much.
Regret wasting my tenner watching from France.

And that's before I mention Brownie's interminable verbal diarrhea
Nice short trip for you, I went to Australia to watch.

I now realise why Jones gets his past players to join, no others would sign up for his shit coaching.
  • I've genuinely just seen someone on twitter saying it may take a relegation to league2 to rebuild. I'm in fucking disbelief.

How on earth are there still people who find this acceptable, it's beyond my understanding. We have faced 3 of the 4 newly promoted sides at home and achieved 2 points out of a possible 9! We play the 4th of the lot next weekend, even if we manage to win that, it would be 5 of a possible 12. Incredibly shit return against newly promoted sides.

I'm done. I'm not going Lincoln, I had cancelled Christmas plans to go Northampton, I'll now be getting refunds for those tickets to attend my Christmas plans, and like fuck am I wasting my time and money on a team who don't give a shit travelling somewhere up north. Embarrassing that some of these are professionals. I've completely lost my passion for football less than 20 games in again.

I want to hear from these owners as soon as possible really, because they need to explain the lack of progress this season, and address how they intend to turn it around.

The Valley was at best around 30-40% full tonight? In the words of the great @oohaahmortimer we really are an absolute minge of a club.
30-40%, looked more like 25% to me, ignore what the bullshitters in the club tell you, that looked like 6-7k bums on seats
Took this from my seat in West Upper. Be surprised if there was 7,000 in the ground.  Crawley brought what, 600? Depressing night all round.
That’s absolutely shocking. I would guess at 7,000 attendance last night (at best).

Was worse than that mate as some of those groups opposite in the East were freebies
  • Well that wasba new low but I doubt the owners will sack Nathan. The cost of payouts must be mounting up by now.

They will probably persevere with maybe a few quid spent in January along with offloading some of the dead weight with maybe even a surprise sale of Leaburn who looks like he'd rather be anywhere else than here!

With the lad Jones coming back its only really Ramsay that would walk back into the Team missing along with Chucky who can't be relied upon so Nathan will have no excuses any longer to say its not his best team.

However, I really struggle to see us winning another game as theres no real 'bust a gut' from any of the players unless of course we consider that they're maybe trying to offload the boss?

If you add this to the powers in charge theres something very smelly and that has to change.

The Club we love feels like its losing its identity, its soul and that has been happening slowly over the last ten years.

Not sure what the answer is but it hurts to see this happening.

    Happy Christmas.

I've slept on it.  I'm still furious.

    Dreadful, slow, no creativity.
Alan Campbell is not fit to wear the shirt.  Any shirt.  I don't even want him handing out sandwiches - he'd be late for that as he is late for every tackle.

Possibly my lowest point ever as an Addick.  I fucking hate every single one of them right now.
    Long ball nonsense.
Alan Campbell is getting decent marks on the player marks thread which surprises me. He was absolutely atrocious.

This one gets trotted out in the premier league fairly often too. There’s no real scenario where shredding your income (further) and dropping down a league is a good thing.

Of course there are examples of teams who have had miraculous climbs from the lower regions of the football league but a) but there are many more that haven’t, b) I’m pretty sure simply getting relegated to a lower league isn’t the sole reason for their rise.
Agree. Rebuild is all good and well but you have to have solid foundations to rebuild on. Too often relegation is just another step on a gradual decline.
