All this talk is a bit bizarre at this point, Alfie wanted to go and he has got his wish. He is being paid a packet and a half, will win something which his career to date deserves and probably spend a season or two in the championship good on him. The lad got what he wanted and has been proven right by his decision to leave.
Equally Jones, who clearly wasnt the biggest fan of May, has also been proven right by the fact we are a better team this season than we were last season and its completely quantifiable also unarguable. Jones believed we would be a better team without Alfie and we are.
Don't all shout at once, but please can someone summarise why Alfie May left? How could he not be in Jones' plans after all the goals he scored last season?
Well May made a video talking about why he was leaving and listing all his reasons why he wanted to leave. So id go with that.
Unless you one of the flat earthers who clearly believe Alfie was being threatened with a gun off camera and made to read a script.

Footballers will say anything on video in order to further their career interests as they see fit. And why not? But as with politicians, it's wise to view them all with a sceptical eye.
There are too many Lifers, some of whom I know personally with a different version of events.
We are a better team than the one Alfie May played in. It does not follow that it is better because he is not in it. Indeed, it remains an open question whether we would not be even better (certainly in current league standing) if we had kept him and insisted that Jones shows some more flexible people-management skills. You know, like not bawling out tall-poppy 20 year old kids at the end of a game in full view of team-mates and fans, for making one mistake in a grand total of 90 seconds on the pitch.

Given his age and the fact he seems to be deemed as a squad player, I expect them to offload him in the summer. They bought him simply to help them jump straight back up, but then had the opportunity to bring in Stansfield and things shifted for him. He may well play in the championship, but I don't think it'll be with Brum.

There are people here who have first hand knowledge of the situation who completely agree with what i have written above, me for one.
Yes a lot here who have also provided ZERO evidence. even when the contrary evidence supports the arguments Alfie put out there.
This side is better than last year because the team is better and Alfie isnt in the team. Yes hypothetically one could argue that If may was here we could be better we could also be a lot worse (again hypothetically). Perhaps under Jones Stockley would be a POTY contender, who knows. What is unarguable is Jones wasnt massively keen on Alfie and thought we could be a better team without him, May has left and we are a better team.

He's played every league game for them this season.
12 games without a goal. The bad thing for him is he didn't capitalise when Stansfield and Dykes were out which won't have helped his standing among the staff and fans. A 12 game dry patch isn't unlike him, but he hasn't had the usual red hot extended streaks inbetween; he scored 4 in his first 4 but since then he's only scored in consecutive games once. Alfie is a player who needs to be loved where he is and he's very much a spare part in this Birmingham side. I do feel bad for him no matter how much he's getting paid

I wouldn't feel too bad for him. He went there to help them get promoted and he'll do that. He'll get a league winners medal and he's earning great money at this level. Personally though i'm not sure he'll even be there next season.

And next season he'll either get to sit on the bench at Birmingham racking up a nice weekly fee or there will be plenty of teams in L1 vying to take him on based on his record at this level.
Don't think he's got that much to be miserable about.

Yet I stand by my comment. Yes, he might have feaured in every game this season, but I still see them trying to off-load him in the summer.
He will be unhappy though. He'll be satisfied with the money but Alfie likes to be the main man, likes to feel important and likes to be getting the adulation from the stands. He can get very sulky when things don't go his way and his confidence can disappear pretty quickly. For all football fans are incapable of accepting people earning a lot of money can still be pissed off he'll be annoyed that two more strikers were brought in over him after he signed and that he didn't contribute as much as he would have wanted to the title win. Still, 10 games left so if he goes on another one of his scoring streaks he could still end up with 15 goals and it'll look a bit brighter
Also forgot that Birmingham are in the EFL trophy final as well so he's got another chance of a medal there. Not bad for a guy who was playing for Hythe Town 8 years ago.
Why? Go back and have a look at some of the posts on here. The majority of the posts are declaring that it was a mistake to let May go, it's gone very quiet now Godden has gone in front of May in the goal scoring charts. I've criticised Jones on numerous occasions but he's won the argument Gary, quite simply he was right and if he wants to crow about it then he has the right.

Oh I know, he's not wrong, but he does have a tendency to use wins as a launch pad for grievances he has against things others have said to him. I also enjoy the tactic of him claiming he's not going to say I told you say before proceeding to do exactly that. He has every right to do it, but it's still petty
Perhaps what NJ might not be fully aware of is just how scarred we are as a fanbase. From Izale McLeod in 07/08 to Freddie Ladapo to last season we’ve seen so many strikers come and go who were supposed to fire us to promotion or save us from relegation. So few lived up to expectations.

There is a little bit of me that is glad he did get it right Gary, we had the Alfie May fans coming on match threads telling us when Alfie scored and if we hadn't scored by half time they couldn't help themselves to inform us all this wouldn't be the case if Alfie was still playing for us. I get your point and yes sometimes he is a bit 'I told you so' but I'm happy to let him have this one, because I think he's done us all a favour.

Was responding to the part where you called him a squad player.

You forgot Ahadme
No, he’s going to score the goal that gets us 2nd place on the final day.

An incredible amount of supposition presented as fact.. “he will be unhappy”, “he’ll be satisfied with the money”, “he likes to be the main man”, “he can get very sulky” etc etc.
Fair play to Nathan Jones for saying something like that, loads of us doubted the wisdom or in my case saw it as a massive call that if it didn't pay off would haunt him (polite way of saying I doubted him too) didn't help that I have loved watching Alfie May score goals since he played for Quested and wanted us to have signed him for a long time.
If Godden scores more than 23 league goals then NJ might have a point. Thus far he's on 12.
If we get promoted it don’t matter how many he scores
To be fair, you could post similar on any player's thread and it might shut down debate. But it was NJ who made it about proving Godden's individual worth.
He’s a man confident in his own belief. A workaholic and a perfectionist. And thank goodness for that.
Our strikeforce would undoubtedly be better for having May still with us alongside our other strikers, but Godden has been outstanding and in particular since Christmas and Jones has every right to point that out because he’s copped a lot of abuse.

Everybody wins.

Matt Godden 12 (148 mins per goal)
Don't think he's got that much to be miserable about.
Unless he told you this?
