I like Mitchell but I understand Jones’s logic when Ramsey is playing as he is. Having at least one of the three centre backs willing and able to play further up the pitch supporting attacks is useful and Ramsey has the pace to get back quickly if the opposition turn over our possession.

If we want to compete at the top end we need our bench to be of similar quality to the starting 11. Mitchell is certainly that and is quite unfortunate not to be playing. Really hope he is willing to fight for his place as he is a very solid CB.

Mitchell is a bit unlucky in that he genuinely is pretty good and hasn't done anything wrong, but Ramsay is just a better option.

The great thing is I think he can play the central cb role and the RCB role with equal proficiency. Maybe in this current setup with the lop sided wing backs where the RCB is expected to cover at RB a fair bit he isnt quite perfect for that role but he did it well enough. Very good player to have pushing for a place.

The Rotherham game exposed our back 3, struggling playing against 2 quick players rather than an out and out typical striker. Ramsay being in the 3 is a good way to prevent that happening too often again

We were badly exposed against Peterborough's pace too.

Ramsay is much better with the ball at his feet, Mitchell often looks a bit unsure. He's a great defender but just needs more confidence on the ball

Well yeah but he's a League One defender. They all make mistakes. Outside of Birmingham and their insane wages/budgeting our goals conceded is very much of a level with the rest of the top eight, and he was a part of that before Ramsay came back.

Said it after Tuesday. As good as Macintyre was it needs to be Mitchell in the middle of the back 3 for a long as Jones is out. Yes he doesn't have the pace or the ability on the ball but is the next best option after Jones for a leader and organiser at the back. And his aerial ability is key.

Before he came on we simply shat ourselves every tome they came at us. No communication no leadership.

Mac is still a good player but more suited to either the left or right of the back 3 or CM cover.

Didnt look much better after as well. He's got absolutely no composure on the ball and looked a calamity waiting to happen

Agreed there were moments after he came on but his added height physicality and aerial ability was key in both boxes and you could tell they were more stretched defending set pieces. He was also talking and directing.

The game was open once he came on and we were basically playing a 2 man defence at times.

Mitchell wasn’t great but his physicality was a help. McIntyre just doesn’t look like a centre half to me.

He's certainly not a dominant CB, which you need up against big centre forwards.

Whether you think he was good or rubbish, We were better with him at the back than Macintrye and he didn’t make any stupid mistakes that lead to goals. I felt safer defensively with him in there than Macintrye.

He’s a solid player at this level, and was one of our more consistent players in the first few months of the season.

A lot less capable on the ball than our other CBs yes, but he’s a good defender. If Jones isn’t back I expect he’ll get his chance after McIntyre’s error.

Since mid-January, he's either been out of the squad or played between 1-4 minutes per game.

No surprise he was rusty yesterday playing 40 minutes. It would be wise to give him more minutes for remainder of season, just in case we need him fresh and ready during the play off games.

Yep Jones is our best player, some people only notice it when he’s not there.

As for Mitchell, he was awful - I take full responsibility as I said during the week that I thought he was one of the few players that might be able to make the step up to the championship. Regretting those comments now!

We miss any of our best 6 outfielders .  We look awful without Edwards, TC and Jones .  We are much better with Godden than Leaburn and I suspect we’d miss Small and Ramsay too .  I suspect all league one sides bar the top 2 would be similar

id say we missed TC just as much - can't decide between the 2 personally but its definitely out of those 2
