We looked a division above them in the first half. Appleton needs to sort out the defence. I think like me he might think Jones is better than Thomas but Thomas has been our best defender the last couple of games and you have to go with what you see. It is painful to watch Ness and Jones play slow, poor but safe balls to each over sideways and backwards. Watson is too soft and gives us little defensively or offensively. Asiimwe has to be a better bet there.
These things that Appleton doesn't see worry me but I think we should still give him a couple more games to sort it out. I would say to him, defensively, you must see what I am seeing so Watson, Ness and Jones need dropping. We seem to have replacements in Asiimwe, Gillesphey and Edmonds-Green. He should also tell the players that when they make nothing safe passes they will be fined.

Mutley, you're not serious about giving him a couple more games, are you?
This man will relegate us as surely as night follows day.

And Thomas carried the ball forward much better too. And indeed had our best shot of the match
If we’re going to make a change, whoever comes in need to be extremely well versed in playing a back 3!
We do not need another manager, favouring a back 4, struggling along because he’s got an unbalanced squad, not having all the tools or winging a system he doesn’t really like. Then we’d have to wait until the summer to re-balance the squad…again!
I believe Pearson & Rowett favour 4-2-3-1 Duff 3-5-2. (Happy to be corrected if wrong)
If I see T Watson and Ness starting on Tuesday and we don't win, I will join the Appleton out camp. I am teetering one way and then the other. What puts me off is the concern we will just get another manager from the same pond.

That will boost the morale of the team fineing the shit out of them when they make an errant pass,Don't think that's the way to go.
Not my preference, but as I said in the match thread, but I don't think Appleton would be sacked until mid February.
I imagine Scott and co will give him a few weeks with the new players AND Curtis Fleming (who's only just arrived and will probably focus more on the defence) to turn things around.
Trying to be rational .. Burton are not a bad side and the fact that we have made a few potentially decent signings doesn't give us the automatic right to steamroller all and any opposition. We had more shots, corners and possession than Burton and should have made a lot more out of those bare statistics, BUT as we all know (all together now) it' goals that count
3 5 2 does not suit us, I am sick n tired of saying this. Appleton wants us to play like a premier team with L1 players, he should either get with reality or face the sack .. equally as said, we have a lot of newcomers and it will take a while for the clichéd bedding in. The thing is though we don't have the time, so need the new boys up and at it a s a p, preferably from tomorrow I am no more downcast than I was before this game, we are a badly managed side with decent players, Appleton seems to lack the ability to motivate and organise his players and his record down the years mostly supports my opinion
Two tough games coming up and IF we don't get points from both of those, then Appleton should be replaced. We don't know who 'selected' the new players, whoever it was has potentially done a good job. IF it was Appleton he deserves two those more games to get his choices sorted and to get results, else Michael get the fuck away elsewhere, a long way away.
I'll say again, forget wing backs, three at the back and all the fancy old bollocks. I don't care if every other team/manager in the universe (except Vincent Kompany) has ditched 4 4 2, we need to get real, play a 4 4 2 and start earning some points. I m o we now have a squad to do it, IF IF Appleton plays to its potential and ditches the fancy stuff, gets his players to get stuck in and not baffle them with fancy and unworkable tactics
Problem is the club are building a squad for 352 and just ditched our winger who could maul teams in a 442.
I agree Appleton should be given more time as these are clearly the players he wants and needs a few weeks on the training pitch to get them to gel together. Thats why you need to do your squad building in the summer. Look at my posts last June about this.
Dont get me wrong, I want him gone yesterday. I didnt want him in the first place. But if you are going to bring in his players (2 of the signings he has coached before) then you have to give him time.
Unless we win on Tuesday then I feel there is no option but to sack Appleton. It's clear most supporters have lost faith and no wins in 10 matches is not a hiccup and will take a lot of turning around. We are, like it or not, already involved in a relegation scrap and the next three games, which are all tough, could end up with us dragged into the bottom four. I know the board have backed Appleton in the transfer window but I am seriously doubting if he has the skills needed.
His post-match comments will be interesting. Let's see if he acknowledges the scale of the problems and offers ideas for resolving them. They can't be ignored.

We need them to make potentially errant passes based on trying to make good passes. It is the safe passes that are not errant but slow us down and get us nowhere that needs to be discouraged.

Oh my Lord….. So you give him two more games. Simple probability based on the most recent sample says we lose them. Or draw at best. Which isn’t enough to stay up.
There is simply no reason for this. We lose two more games, we have less games to stay up whilst being closer to the drop. Chance of going down increases.
And replace him with who? Please don’t say, ‘anyone would be better’ or unrealistic names who would never come here.
I’m not advocating for Appleton, but who else is out there?
I wonder if the investment in decent decent players this window might help attract a better calibre of candidate than we’ve had to choose from in recent times?
Michael Appleton newly appointed and Andy Scott said:
This can't happen anymore, today's the last day that we are a losing club. We've lost 6 out of 8, that's not acceptable. The losing habit has gotta stop. We have to have a mentality that means we can win, Michael will bring that.
If I see T Watson and Ness starting on Tuesday and we don't win, I will join the Appleton out camp. I am teetering one way and then the other. What puts me off is the concern we will just get another manager from the same pond.
Fuck off Appleton, you useless C**T You are the worst manager that I have seen in 55 years supporting this club.
Just do the honorable thing and go!
Karel Fraeye is the worst manager this club has ever had and always will be.
That is a matter of opinion.
Neither manager was any good, in fact both of them are absolute shite. But Appleton is pretending to manage in League 1, whereas Karel Fraeye was managing in the Championship.
They are both useless.
But Appleton, by virtue that he cannot manage in League One is the worst.
Can't believe I'm saying this, but out of our defence I'd only keep Thomas. Possibly Edun because there's no-one else.
V. Northampton I'd try:
Assimwe REG Gillesphey Thomas Edun
But we need to bring in new full backs/wing backs ASAP.
I'm clutching at straws here.
That is exactly how I see it. A couple of games ago I would say Edun has to go but he at least is starting to play accrding to the role. T Watson is like playing with 10 men!!
Am I the only who is driven crazy by the way that our throw ins almost always go backwards, even when we are in the opposition half? Throw back, the defence plays the ball around the back in an arc, playing safe. It's so predictable and ponderous and meanwhile the opposition get organised and put pressure on our players and mark us out of any possibility to make incisive moves towards goal. With the level of players we've got it's a lazy and gutless way of playing.
Does my head in.
One of the only passages of play you can't be offside from. Any throw-on inside the opposition half should be down the line to a winger or striker. It drags the opposition back towards their goal.

If he was to go my support would be for one of :
Duff
Jones
Rowett
Pearson
It's unsustainable having him in charge.
4 4 fucking 2.
All 352 does is trap your "wingbacks" further up field.
There is simply no reason for this. We lose two more games, we have less games to stay up whilst being closer to the drop. Chance of going down increases.
Why would anyone want that?!!
