Short term contract please. He's obviously our z-list option so let's not have him for 4 years and us to try shipping him back out for 2 years.2

Got to he honest, I'd be a bit underwhelmed by this. Stockton at least has a history of a decent strike rate, Goodwin has potential and JCH is an absolute bagsman that's also a physical presence.
Uche is just a bit of a handful, poor strike rate.
For me this just isn't a good signing, 29 in a month (same age as the 'old' JCH), barely made an impact anywhere he has played.
This just smacks of desperation and not a signing where a plan has been put in place. I don't imagine he would be a part of our build for next season..
Hopefully Wycombe will outbid us on this one.
Cheap wages but still wages, could potentially be another one we have sitting their wasting wages and blocking other transfer activity.Scoham said:Braziliance said:DOUCHER said:Braziliance said:

This could also be one of those situations where we have a few possibilities, but we have to keep some moving along to ensure we get the type of player we need, even if we have to go with a short term option.

I get what you’re saying but what’s the alternative? JCH doesn’t look like he wants to sign Humphrys must be a non starter and we know Ladapo is. It’s clear we need a striker and we’re working our way down our shortlist. He’s not perfect but I’m not sure who else we go for
I'd really like to hope we have more imagination than just gradually looking at the strikers of every team in this league.
We allegedly bid a sizeable fee for Abbey, 500k or so for JCH, 400k for Goodwin.
Ali Al-Hamadi is probably going to go for around 1-2 million. I understand his likely destination will be a championship gamble, but if we have this kind of money now, why would we sign stop gaps. That's what the loan market is for imo.

Especially if we lose CBT, who is our second highest scorer and only player with the ability to create something out of nothing.0 -
This reminds of a Josh Parker kind of signing4

If he can keep himself fit. Make a bit of a nuisance of himself and tap the odd one in that will do for me

Max 18 month deal if we do go for him please.
Would still need another striker though IMO, especially if going 2 up top1 -
Wouldn't mind him at all. A foil for May is clearly what we need - look at what happens when he's isolated up top. If Parker can be a decent albeit bit-part player in a promotion side, then in the short term you'd hope Ikpeazu can do similar in terms of how we can generate results or passages of play. And for that one lovely season we had Paolo di Canio, he scored 4 in 31, all of which were pens, but we weren't writing him off as a striker/forward player (admittedly he was a bit of a CAM) as a result, were we? (Obviously not a direct comparison of course!)2

Actually, looking back, who’d have thought a limited journeyman like him, who hardly ever scored, would play a decent role in our successful play-off final.I think Uche might be (even) better than Josh. 👍7 -

Don't mind the Ikpeazu move , big striker that can hold the ball up , if we could add another striker on loan alongside signing him then I'd be pretty content. Would rather not have too much pressure on DK still.0

Just don't think it's a good signing is all
Many people think that if he's the best available to us for this season, then it's better than nothing.
Port Vale are level on points with Charlton and have a game in hand.
If you think Port Vale would be wrong to sell/release him, I don't understand why you can't continue the thought process and think it would be beneficial to Charlton (to help avoid relegation).
I don't believe he would be as important to us as he is allegedly to Port Vale, the reviews seem mixed.
I'll just wait and see (all we can do), either way, this is firmly starting to look like a typical January if it wasn't for Conor Coventry, especially if CBT does go and potentially Dobson.
Failed to get out top targets (except Coventry)
Failed to keep our prized assets (likely)
Added stop gaps and unproven players to the ranks to tide us over. Gillesphey will be Hector's replacement likely, so we still need another centre back.
I'll get stick for it, as anyone who doesn't praise them does, but we are miles off it still and a striker that doesn't score (I understand he has more to his game) and a third choice goalie isn't going to cut it.
I think it's fair, but that's my view. I genuinely just shouldn't post about it as it just ends up being a case of people arguing over what they do when it's all irrelevant and they're going to do what they want in the end and we just have to watch it.
Good luck to UcheNabySarr said:Braziliance said:Covered End said:Braziliance said:fenaddick said:Braziliance said:DOUCHER said:Braziliance said:

I think we are doing a reasonable job at that so far, with 2 good permanent signings, and 2 loans that cover a short term need and could be potential permanent signings in the summer
So just for some clarity, this window doesn't count in the future when we discuss how many windows this regime has had? Cause so far the summer didn't count as they arrived too late, allegedly, and now January is a write off as it's a sellers market?
Anyway yeah good signing, real strong lad, I'm sure he'll do a job at his 14th club. Can't wait to travel up and down the country to watch Uche do a job.
We’ve probably made the best signing in league 1 so far (Coventry), and a regular in a promotion winning team of last season (Gillesphey). That’s 2 very good permanent signings, how many other league 1 teams have even made 1 permanent signing of that calibre?I’m less thrilled about the 2 loans, but we clearly needed bodies in central midfield in the short term (like we do up front)5 -

I think he would do until the end of the season.
It would need to be a short deal though to allow us to move him on easily. Perhaps an 18 month contract.

What's Josh Magennis up to these days?
Big, physical, quick for his size, not prolific but scores enough and will be a good foil for May.
Has a great long throw as well!
Gotta be worth a short term deal!

Good friends with Aneke and there are strong similarities in their style of play. That relationship might work in our favour too.
Ikpeazu and May and then from February onwards, Aneke can come off the bench for him for the last 20 minutes (don’t laugh)20 -
Remember the last striker we signed directly from Port Vale.....Andy Jones.
Although to be fair he had a good record at this level.0
