  • At the valley in the rain watching the cricket ……
When it rains, it pours. Malan tickles one down the legside and is given out post review for 6 (11)

    24-3 off 5.1
Suns just poked through here …… could be an omen
  • Our top scorer has 192 in this WC. South Africa have four batsmen with more than that.
  • So what do we do now? Three more wickets and Willey is in but, equally, we can't afford to get too far behind the RR either.
They were slow starters & only got into the grove once Topley got injured. Then look at their last 5 overs. At one point they are looking at 350 when Rashid took a few wickets in his last spell.

We have the players to do it but problem is we have too many overs left. 10 overs to get 120 with Brook , Stokes & Butler left then very doable. But with 40 overs I expect them to go chasing too early and get out too soon.
  • I'd like to think that, given how congested the table is, that we could still qualify if we win all our remaining matches. Two issues with that - I'm not sure I would trust us to beat India and if we get thrashed here, our NRR will be shocking.
  • I want England to get repeatedly thrashed and scrap The Hundred tbh

Sadly that won't happen. The ECB will come up with some "cock and bull" story to justify our performances, the preparation, selection and most of all, The Hundred.
  • Stokes caught and bowled Rabada for 5 (8)

    38-4 off 8.1

  • Total shite.
    Brainless cricket at its worst
  • I think I heard earlier that recently when chasing we haven't got more than 300 on 5 out of the last 6 occasions.
  • 43 for 4 in the ninth over. absolute joke.

After nine overs South Africa were 49/1.

England are 50/4 with a long tail.
  • Seems like we are batting on a different wicket / ground. All during the SA innings we were told that the outfield is fast, it's a great batting pitch & runs are always scored here.
  • Buttler, with 16 off 3 balls, leading the counter attack

    67-4 off 10
  • Buttler caught behind for 15 (7) off Coetzee

67-5 off 11.1 and Willey is in
  • Coetzee traps Brook LBW for 17 (24). Out of desperation he reviews the decision

    68-6 off 11.3

South Africa have the best top 7 in the competition. They can even replace the captain and bring in someone for him to score 85. They had a blip against the Netherlands but the most positive thing about them is that they know what their best team looks like and it's just a question of whether they play the extra seamer or spinner. They also bat in the same way by trying to save wickets for the final 10-15 overs because they know that they can score at 10 plus an over in that period. We gave ourselves as limited an opportunity as we could have done in the last 12 months to find our best squad and team is and had more opportunities to do so than any other team in the competition. We refused to use them.
  • Buttler and Mott must be made to account for the decision at the toss.
  • It's quite an achievement to have Willey and Rashid batting together in the 12th over of a 50 over WC match
  • Buttler and Mott must be made to account for the decision at the toss.

They will fudge it as they always will. I haven't checked it but hasn't Buttler now lost 13 of his 25 matches as skipper?
  • Coezee has Rashid caught at slip for 10 (14)

    84-7 off 15.1

  • You have to say that was a great catch.

    100/8.

Are we allowed to boo yet  ?
  • 17th over and we have number 10 in against a team that set us 400. This is of England v Namibia proportions!
  • Buttler should be sacked as captain.

Whoever is captain should NOT bowl first.

Like a "Golfie", England can't win when have to chase.

This will be 6 out of 7 we have lost bowling first.

It could be the heaviest defeat (in terms of runs) in WC history. Worst is 275. We need another 24 to equal that.

And it looks like Topley isn't going to bat. Not that he will probably last that long anyway.
  • Wood has hit 24 off 10 to date

Wood was matched at 300 for a couple of quid to be top scorer for us in this game but Atkinson might outdo him
  • Tailenders having fun. Could be the best partnership of the innings.

Going at 7 an over so almost up with the run date.
  • 153-8 off 21. We are 12 runs ahead of S A at this stage. Pacing ourselves well.

Wood and Atkinson have put on 53 for the 9th wicket so far

    Any on Atkinson?
