A deserved win in the end after an unpromising start, with their winger beating Edun far too easily and putting over a beautiful cross, which Stockley despatched with ease. It might have been an idea for one of our central defenders to pick up their main aerial threat as he wandered into the box, rather than leaving it to young Anderson.
By that stage, we’d already had a let off, after Stockley hit the underside of the bar with the sort of free kick he never remotely managed for us (or anyone else, so far as I’m aware).
We carried our usual threat down the left with CBT, while Alfie May passed up an excellent opportunity when he completely missed a lovely low cross from Tyreece Campbell. Fortunately, his namesake, Chem, threaded a beautiful through ball through for Alfie to equalise just before half time. Just as well, as we had been pretty toothless up until then and vulnerable against a well-drilled and muscular Fleetwood side, who had certainly had the better of things and should have gone in ahead at half-time.
I thought we were much better in the second half, moving the ball more quickly and putting some decent passing moves together, with Fleetwood offering practically nothing up the other end. The welcome return of Miles Leaburn gave the team and the crowd a much needed lift and a lovely pass from Edun inside the full back gave CBT the chance to cut in and earn a stonewall penalty, which Alfie rammed home.
There is still much work to do but a win’s a win and I doubt that any of us cared much how it came about. I’m also struggling to recall the last time the team came from behind to win a game and that will surely do them a great deal of good.
In terms of individual performances, Edun was a little erratic at times but good offensively, while I thought that Jones and Asiimwe both had solid games. In midfield, Dobbo got stuck in and covered a great deal of ground as usual, Anderson was sound and Chem Campbell showed some quality and football intelligence throughout. A decent cameo also from Terry Taylor, who put on a few very good corners and may be the answer to an important element of the game where we’ve consistently struggled in recent seasons.
Up top, CBT was his usual menacing self and it’s great to see Tyreece Campbell and Miles Leaburn back on the pitch and running at defenders. On another day, Alfie May could have had 3 or 4 goals but his instinct takes him into goalscoring positions and I think he’ll score plenty for us, particularly when he’s got a partner like Leaburn alongside him. The only downside was another unnecessary booking, meaning he’s only one from a suspension we can ill afford.
It’s good to now have a fortnight to integrate the new players and to try and drum some important organisational and defensive principles into them. I expect a couple of the new lads may get some minutes at Crawley on Tuesday, which will hopefully help them towards match fitness.

What a difference a win makes, and a well-deserved one at that. Chem Campbell, Corey B-T and Alfie May all excelled. It's great to have a proper goalscorer in the team. I think this squad is good enough for top six, and let's hope we get a manager that can get the best out of it. Now we have a couple of weeks to get the new guys and the unfit guys in better shape. Oh, and wasn't Miles good too, when he came on?

Fleetwood were like us.....didnt take their chances when they were ahead. They should have been 3 up at HT.....and Mays equaliser dragged us back into it. Only 1 winner from then on & we really should have been out of sight before TWELVE mins were added.

Yeah 3 is a bit OTT but they did have another couple of chances, a cross that flashed across that the striker should have got his head on and a very well worked corner that the guy should have at least got on target instead of blazing over but I suppose you either missed them or forgot them. Easy to do if you have subjective memory.

C Campbell looked even better this. Last week and could be key to us unlocking defences but special mention to Dobbo who was brilliant. He really seems to be adding more to his game than just making tackles and breaking up play.
One thing I noticed today that we seemed quicker in midfield and more energy.

Funny old game really. Coming hot on the heels of a mystery tour around Thamesmead with the A206 being closed, the first half had the feel of a pre-season friendly with two unprepared teams strolling around in the sunshine, putting on a show that at no point matched its billing as a professional football match. The couple of dozen Fleetwood fans, surely the lowest Jimmy Seed attendance for a while, told the story of how poor a team they are, whilst the first set of boos on 15 minutes told how bad we were. For forty minutes, which can best be described by the word lethargic, Charlton were second best and deserved nothing from the game. May's goal out of the blue surely spared our players an uncomfortable trudge off the pitch at half time. Presumably though there were some finely chosen words from JP at half time because we came roaring out of the traps. The second half was far better and as Fleetwood tired, there only looked to be one winner in it. A far more accomplished performance from everyone saw us to be the much better side. A second May goal and the return or Leaburn really lifting the Spirits. Well done Charlton for a decent second half. The quicker we forget that first half the better.
The first half was poor, but I actually enjoyed the second half. It was a crucial win and when we were 1 down, I thinking we’re really in the shit given how young the team are, and the fact that our 4 signings this week are also very young.
I think it’s going to be a big ask for whoever gets the job, but there are some green shoots. Chem Campbell has good feet and looks like he could be one to watch, May is proper forward and was unlucky not to get a hat trick and CBT is a menace for a lot of defenders. If we can just get other outlets and someone can come in and continue to coach him, he could be an effective player this season.
Hopefully the new players will just add to what we’ve got, because there are some skillful players in there. We just need organisation, more wise heads on the pitch in addition to Dobson, and to get that defence sorted, and there could be the foundation of a stronger team than last season. Against a better opposition we could’ve been 2 or 3 down today, so we got fortunate, but expect a tight league this year. Stevenage and Port Vale are in the top 6 as it stands, I don’t think Derby, Bolton, Wigan, Blackpool, Oxford or whoever else fancies their chances are going to do what Sheff Weds, Ipswich & Plymouth did last season

This was the "clear penalty" not given on Campbell. Their player definitely played the ball and the only question is whether he went through Campbell first. Doesn't look like it from this shot.
I didn't think it was a penalty. So times you get them, some times you give them away.
Its so easy to blame the refs, good teams win amd take the odd 50/50 ref decision out of the equation.
You could easily argue refs have cost us as much as 6 points this season. We have cost ourselves more.
Maybe. As always it depends on your position. From where I was it looked like the defender stuck his leg out then pushed Chem over the outstretched limb. For me (and those around me) it looked like CBT threw himself to the floor. Ref saw both differently 🤷♂️. What WAS infuriating was that he waved their bloke on in the first half (wrist?) after about 5 seconds, but after the non pen, Chem was off for around a minute. I thought it was supposed to be 30 seconds minimum? I accept at this level the officials might be a bit ropey but for the basics I’d like consistency.
The other annoying thing was when the ref made us retake a fk for a rolling ball when the only reason it was moving was because their defender had tapped it to stop us taking it quickly 🙄. Not material in impacting the result but all contributes to the bad rep the refs get when they can’t even spot those kind of tricks

Thought May's goal was pretty decent. Dobbo, Chem and Corey were the standout performances for me.
