Was informed that Beale will be a non starter as he was not happy that Thomas said he had contacted him in an interview when Adkins left. I can't recall this can anyone verify please? Hoping this is not the case and Beale is a possibility. Thomas has verified to me that he tried to contact Beale last time.

I don't want Neil Lennon as manager, but not because of the Celtic links. It is more to do with his underwhelming spell at Bolton. I quite fancy both Beale and Warburton and won't be put off because an Ibrox faction sing about support for the UDA.

Both of the Glasgow clubs have sectarian factions who are horrible in their support, but that doesn't mean that individuals associated with either club cannot join Charlton.

Ironically as well as having some supporters who vocally support the Republican cause, Celtic is also the best supported team within the UK armed forces. Steve Gallen is a fan of the Hoops.

Therefore we cannot make political points surrounding appointments in our club based on a faction within Celtic's support.
This. I'm not interested especially in Scottish football(I vaguely follow St Mirren) and especially the pair other Scottish fans refer to as the ugly sisters. Similarly religion. But I want a manager with a good track record. We need to aim high. Lennon isn't that person, and on that basis alone, I prefer someone else.

And if people want to bring the old firm/religion background into it, why is Seth not allowed to comment?

When he was at Bolton weren't there loads of "other problems" such as the players not getting paid?

I think you have to be careful looking at other people's track record without looking at the detail.

Who would have taken Richardson over Adkins based on CV?

I don't want Lennon either BTW.

Have a look online at the interview he gave after there game yesterday and the comments from QPR fans and i didnt read one bad comment they all speak very highly of him his management and style of play and along side that seems like a very likeable man thats in the league above btw

I think a few people need to have a think about where we are as a club and be more realistic
Warburton would be a class appointment !
I’m sure he does come across very well and I’m sure he is highly thought of. I’m also sure that a number of quotes from this thread will be retrospectively quoted and LOL’d in 6 months time with the benefit of hindsight. Someone who wasn’t a popular choice will be successful or vice versa. However, my gut feeling is that Warburton wouldn’t be a good appointment at this point.

From the comments it sounds like exactly what we need.

    An alternative.
Any names that would really excite you?

I think what can be gleaned from this thread is whoever is appointed is unlikely to be universally welcomed 😂
Unless we got Klopp or Pep I can't think of anyone one that would be?

Anyone we are realistically going to get will either have a failer on their CV, lack experience or be taking a big step up in terms of size of club and expectations.

Has anyone mentioned Claus Jensen, done a pretty good job managing a small club in Denmark for the past two years, that may be near the limits of its potential and all the obvious connections. TS must know him - and he does like being popular.
That’s exactly what we need! Another club legend, untried at this level.
Although I expect you’re whooshing here?
Like Lee Bowyer and Chris Powell?
Was Bowyer ever a 'Club Legend'
After his racist antics after he left, more a
    Leg End.

And being caught out on dope testing as a yoof player.
Cannabis, ecstasy and packet. Can certainly testify that isn't performance enhancing just in case anyone was wondering...
Going back to around 1966/67 I’d say, an old pal of mine who had come up through the youth team and was playing regularly for the reserves (as it was then), came to grief with the club.
He went down to Brighton or Margate for a weekend away clubbing it with some pals from the Lewisham Mods scene.
    Biggest mistake of his life.
He swallowed some Doobs, Purple Hearts (SKF’s), I was never exactly sure of how the info got back to The Valley but sadly for him somehow it did.
Now this fella was clearly looking like he was going to make the grade all the way but he was history in seconds flat.
    How times have changed!
Didn't seem to hold Curbishley back. I've seen video evidence of him launching a table through a brighton cafe window  having it with some rockers in '79.
For those readers who might be taking this seriously (I bet there are quite a few), AC had a minor role in Quadrophenia where he is cast as a mod who throws a table through a cafe window in Brighton.
Al’s elder brother Bill of course manages The Who and that was his link to appearing in the movie.
@guinnessaddick & I played football with a lad who had played for England youth with Curbs and showed us a photo of them on the way to a tournament once.

Fortunately, Quadrophenia was made a few years after this because there is no way in the world that Curbs would have passed for a Mod with the shocking curly perm that he sporting in that photo!!! 😱😂
  • Warburton would be a manager I would be happy with.

    Oops.
This is the problem when you tend to be a little garrulous.

Intriguing that Thomas has said that the club have been ambitious over and above the likes of Michael Beale. I suspect most would feel he’s at the top end of the range probably available to us. Let’s hope Michael doesn’t get to read the comment.
  • Manning is my preferred choice
  • Warburton would be brilliant but I doubt he would want to join the setup we have in place if it’s true he will have little say on recruitment. Probably rules out most experienced English managers so will probably have to be a young unproven English coach (Beale) or a foreign coach where this model is more common.

Personally would like us to go for a younger L1/L2 manager doing well. Michael Duff would be my choice but Bonner(Cambridge) and Matt Taylor (Exeter) also options. But again they probably have a lot of control at their current clubs so may not wish to join a setup where they have limited say on recruitment

It’s an article from November before Jackson was made permanent.

That sort of manager would be my choice if they could bring their staff, a couple of players, the tea lady and anyone else they wanted with them.
  • Warburton could bring in Charlie Austin who despite his age would be a good short term addition in League One.

Another injury prone striker, probably wants huge wages. And he probably hasn’t been able to press well for about 5 years so doesn’t really fit the style that TS wants us to play
