No one else think it was funny that our head groundsman is called Alan Green.
Lots of work also going on in the lounges at the Valley, new electrical fittings, Charlton TV lounge now the Vice Presidents' Lounge, seats in stands been cleaned, steps repainted, shop re-fitted, Valley Central re-furbed, new pitch, new parking signs!
None of those ever scored a goal but getting the off the pitch stuff right helps the on the field stuff.
Not me, though I'll claim that it's because one of the people I deal with at work (remotely) is called Alan Keys...

Yeah but what about the potholes?
Still very much there.
I think they have been listed as historic monuments
The ONLY thing I can find to gripe about is how Dr Will refers to us as Charlton Athletic Football Club when he talks, mate just say "us" or "here" or "Charl'un"

Probably an archaological dig going on so can't be touched, may discover the UK equivalent of the Terracotta Army.

Yeah, but have they fixed the floodlights, my own personal bugbear
You have to say that what’s going on is very very encouraging. Money being spent on back of house staff and on infrastructure and an upgrading pretty much everywhere. Looking like we’re getting back on a professional footing all over the club which can only be good going forward. Fair play to the owners for this. Feeling like we’re getting back to being a well run football club again. Getting it right on the pitch is the tricky one but we’re moving forward on all fronts.
Is the implication here that we might not have had so many injuries in recent seasons if the training ground had been up to scratch? I hope that's the case because we've had far too many long term injuries recently. If that situation can be fixed, it'll be a major step forward.

I believe so. I think we've been the victim of our own success to a certain extent, pitches and training grounds have come on so much in the last 15-20 years, so when we were in the ascendancy in the late 90's early 00's and renovated a lot of our facilities, the technology wasn't around. In our decline, the last thing we're thinking of, when losing money and tumbling down the leagues, is to renovate something that's barely a decade old. Now a lot of it is 20-25 years old and pretty far behind a lot of the top facilities in the country

Probably a bit simplistic to say that ageing training ground = more injuries but fair to think it is at least a contributory factor. The fact that Abbott has been involved in the revamp is reason to hope that it will be sorted out properly this time.
So with all of this work going on & money being spent on the infrastructure are there any whispers that maybe we're negotiating with the Belgian over bringing The Valley & SL back into ownership by the Football club ?

Worth repeating what I said on the Friendlies thread: Jason Pearce expressed the sentiments above and also felt that Nathan Jones influence is running through the club.

They already said there were discussions going on but there was no panic as we still have a 11/12 years left on the agreement at a good price

Go back to interview January this year one of SMT said negotiations were going on.
Also whispers coming out that a certain person (family member) has visited. How true this is , is anybodys guess.
Duchetelet's daughter was definately shown around the Valley as I spoke to her then.
Saying "negotiations" might be putting it too strongly but the UK directors have said they are talking. That is a start but they have also played down the need to own the Valley, a line, as usual, Ronnie has swallowed hook, line and sinker.
Before we get too carried away, Sandgaard also spent money on the training ground but that's not to say the current investment isn't desirable, needed or welcome.
What appears different and better is that the changes are driven by medical and football professionals.
But the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
If it results in fewer injuries and better results then it has worked.
Think the difference is that TS made the changes due to his wild dream of getting Cat 1 status as he thought it would bring in more money. These changes seem to be practical reasons for practical benefit.
I have every confidence that The Valley and Sparrows Lane will be returned into the clubs hands in due course, but for now the main aim of the new ownership seems to be getting the infrastructure right, in effect rebuilding from the roots up after the previous ownership farce we have had, I would say at least Thomas had his heart in the right place at first, just a bit naive at times...

TS’s biggest problem was his Ego and as you say naivety. These owners seem to get the work done, rather than talk about it, nor do they shout about it.

Well that's all very impressive but have we been able to replace Martin Sandgaard in the player recruitment role ?
Yes. The article states Alistair Clarke is now our Senior Player ID Analyst
Apparently he attended the, Martin Sandgaard online Black Box 2 Day Course.
If it’s the same guy, he seems to have been a video analyst (according to Transfermarkt) or Recruitment Analyst according to other sites. Started at Boro (1year) in 2019, Rangers (3 years), before joining Lincoln last July. No idea what his record is, although Lincoln seemed to recruit well last year.

This is @Airman Brown territory.

Until then it is input, not outcome.
I’ve no idea what the pitch costs are and updating the gym equipment might be.
So hopefully we’re going in the right direction.
