Mason Burstow - progress at Chelsea (p47)

  • well the highly reliable Wikipedia states he's a Chelsea player but is on loan with us.
  • Is this going to be another Hemed situation? (minus getting the terrible striker on loan)
  • reckon it's an issue with the loan back as Fulham/Liverpool were struggling with that yesterday and in the end it scuppered the deal. Something about the EFL not having 'deal sheets' so maybe we didn't get it done by the deadline and are arguing the case with the EFL?
  • Undisclosed... Are they really not going to tell us how much we got for him
  • Charlton Owner Thomas Sandgaard said: “We’ve had a lot of interest in Mason but we only were going to let him go if it was an excellent deal for the club. Chelsea have matched our valuation and, as part of the deal, he will come back to us on loan which was important for us.”

    Why would they?

For a start, telling everyone let's other clubs know we may have £x to spend on that player of theirs we're after.

Yes that is one positive. The negative is that we don't know if it was good business or bad, and usually the fee received is some comfort to fans when a player leaves, especially a young prospect.
  • Not sure I'm that pleased we have him back on loan for the rest of the season. I don't really see the point.

But I wish him well. Can't blame him for taking the opportunity, I just hope we haven't been ripped off.
Exactly this. Don't blame him at all for leaving but currently he's not better than Washington or Aneke. So it's just free training for Chelsea

Nothing against Mason but now he has gone I simply wouldn’t play him ahead of Washington, Aneke, Leko, Stockley and even Kanu
Then you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. He's got pace, a good instinct for where to be, and probably the most accurate/reliable finisher in the box at the club. He's definitely got areas that will improve but freezing him out completely is frankly pure stupid pride and totally unnecessary.
Agreed and it’s not a good look either 😉

Our season is over, what's the point in using him when he's not gonna be here when it matters?
  • The more I think about the Burstow situation the more I think it’s better we sold him now rather than at the end of the season, agents and players have too much power in the game and who’s to say he wouldn’t have done a ‘Lyle’ or a Dillon Phillips & just decided not to play and let his contract run out or force our hands to sell for cheaper than we were offered in January.

  • It would be nice to know the fee but if its in the public domain when we go to buy a player, the selling club will double the asking price.
  • Personally glad we have got him back on loan simply based on our lack of striking options. Stockley could well be done for the season and Aneke's fitness is always a concern (plus he'll be due a ban by the end of the next game for his inevitable 5th booking). That leaves Washington.

I hate these last minute transfers as you have zero time to replace the player.
Swindon fans probably felt the same when we took Jaiyesimi last season
  • I don't blame the kid for going, but I honestly can't get excited about him anymore now.

if Jacko thinks he can add value to the squad or team then so be it, but can't see myself cheering his name anymore.

Agree. We’ve got nothing to play for. Why should we?

Yes but that wasn't the nasty agent adgitating for a move behind the clubs back was it.........

This. Haven't had numbers mentioned to me but have just been told it's a very good fee. Hopefully enough to get us a nice few additions for next season.
