Whatever the result today, there just has to be a better way. We have a generation of incredible attacking talent and we've only got three of them on the pitch.
I don’t care who plays, the formation, or the performance as long as we win.
Know a lot of so called Englishmen who want us to lose and would love to be able to shut them up.
I am no fan of Southgate, I could forgive the penalty miss but not the profiteering through the adverts after and the fact he’s Palace
At the end of the day he’s trying to get England to a major final and I feel we are better equipped under him than anyone since El Tel in 96 to do so.
What? A lot?
When I say a lot it’s mainly people on a whats app group I play football with. They have been backing against England from the start and doing nothing but moaning and willing us to lose.
I have bitten my tongue so far but if we lose and they start gloating I may be looking for a new team as I am not a good loser( not a good trait for a Charlton fan).
People like that are so strange, more focused on being correct than enjoying themselves. I also find people peculiar who are more excited by club football than a game like this. This game is for everyone and unites people who may not normally socialise.
No great surprise to see Southgate going with a defensively looking line up. Let's just hope it works for us. At least with have some good options on the bench
It's exactly the team I thought we would go with. At least we have options off the bench but I'm disappointed we've got 8 defensive players on the pitch, don't think it's necessary.

This. With the attacking talent available to Southgate that’s an unbelievably defensive lineup.
Bowyer tactics, defend them and there game... rather than playing our most attacking team and having a go. Concede first and its pretty much game over.
Let’s hope he’s got it right. I’m okay with the back 3 but think the wing backs are too defensive. Id have gone with James on the right and Saka on the left. Then you can get another attacking player into that front three.
l think we have a talented bunch who should feel confident that they have enough about them to win this game and progress. I'd like to think they are not affected by any historic legacy of fear, or "beaten before we kick a ball" mentality that infests some older English football fans. They are not playing history, they are playing in this game in the here and now. That said, the German's seem to have a knack of finding a way to win, even when not playing particularly well or when not blessed with an array of star talent. It is going to be tough, but I hope the players can step up to the plate and as Gareth said, make their own history. Just please, don't go to penalties
I take it you didn’t watch the Scotland game. We were paralysed by fear. If England set up not to lose which seems to be Southgates MO then the Germans will find it easy.
LOL. Come on, that's a ridiculous exaggeration. Granted I will certainly be hoping for more from our forward players in this game. With Scotland I think the performances are always a little skewed by it being their cup final. Whilst we haven't been free flowing, we have shown some neat play in patches and we have players that can hurt the opposition. Just maybe Gareth has found a way to win games, that doesn't expose our defenders. We'll see I guess.
Southgate…. Probably the most boring manager ever.
IF it were to win us the tournament, would you care? Like with Charlton, I don't watch for exciting football I watch in the hope that we win, however we win. It's the hope... as they say.
God its painful every time seeing Gazza's toe so close to winning it. And that German who scored the winning pen, puffing his chest with hands on his hips...its etched in my brain and I hate it.
I know everyone wants to attack attack attack but that means nothing if we end up losing 4-2 a la Portugal.
We have to be careful of Gosens bombing down that left flank. If Trippier gets too far forward and is caught out of position, they will ping balls behind him to Gosens all day long. Portugal played a back four against Germany and got absolutely ran over by the German overload at the back post every single time.
In fact I’m glad Trippier is on the pitch today, probably the most solid full back we’ve got while also offering a set piece delivery threat. I feel confident about him handling that threat well.
I'm fine with Trippier, it's the two defensive midfielders ahead of 3 centre backs that is overkill.
I don't think having say Mount/Foden/Grealish in for one of Rice or Phillips would be "attack, attack, attack", it would.just help us link the defence & attack and play between the lines more than I think we'll now be able to do.
I expect to see a lot of Kane dropping deep to try and get the ball now too.

Agree I would definitely settle for a boring 1-0 win today

Good to show we're able to stay organised and kill a game off, but we haven't seen how we react to actually conceding a goal.
It's a massive occasion, cannot wait
Walker - Maguire - Stones
Trippier - Phillips - Rice - Shaw
Saka - Kane - Sterling
We DO have some attacking threat down the flanks though, if Trippier and Shaw push on and combine with Saka

Fallout from this will be huge if we lose without any of the 'stars' on the pitch.
To put things into perspective, I don't care how boring the game is and who plays and how they play, as long as we win.
Come on England!
