The French were happy to sit back against the Germans in the opener and they didn’t really get a sniff, the french then broke and scored. The Portuguese didn’t sit back and get slaughtered. I can see GS thinking, but he will defo cop a lot of stick if we don’t win.

You think he wont cop stick even if we win

Its why many England opinions are diluted now, moan enough and people will just stop getting taken seriously

Slightly troubled by Goretzka in place of Gundogan and the fact Germany have actually stuck a striker in this time. I think we would have been a bit more cheerful with their slightly confused false 9 set up, they will definitely try and stretch us with Werner's pace to allow space for Muller and Havertz to pop up in annoying areas. Walker's pace will be key against Werner and Maguire, Rice and Stones will have to be very much awake to the movement of the two behind him. The wing backs need to very wary of their opposite numbers but not allow themselves to get pinned back all game. We've got to exploit those gaps inbetween the wing backs and the centre halves with Saka and Sterling and drive at goal and get the ball across the box for Kane to prod in. Kane really needs to stay up high like a striker today as well. Come on England

Boring line up but I'll take a shitty, boring 1-0 win in this game

Germany’s biggest weakness is their center halves.  I hope that Kane doesn’t drop back when in possession like he has at times so far.   We need him to push forward and continually pressure the center halves into mistakes.  We need one of the wingers to float into the middle or Philips to push forward.  I really would have preferred Grealish to either Saka or Sterling with a more traditional 352 with the fullbacks providing the width

Looks like no plan B for Southgate, Hit the Germans on the break, if that doesn't work.....?

Can the BBC please destroy the tapes of 1996?
God its painful every time seeing Gazza's toe so close to winning it.
And that German who scored the winning pen, puffing his chest with hands on his hips...its etched in my brain and I hate it.
I can't really blame Moller for that.

Compare that though to the class of Matthaus running from the centre circle to pick Waddle up and console him in 1990.

    NOT TODAY!!!!!!!!
  • If Germany score first I'm curious how England will react - we seem set up to scrape a 1-0.

I think he was doing a Mick Jagger impression, but if he was Mick didnt see it. He was there, sat a couple of rows behind me, and for the pens came down and stood by one of the barriers. As soon as Southgate missed Jagger was off down the stairs.

It's a good point. That Portugal v Germany game must have given Southgate a right headache whilst deciding his team.

Really hope Sancho gets a good amount of time on the pitch in the second half, they'll worry about him and he'll have extra drive to perform
  • Come on England!
  • We've had 5 shots on target and scored 2 goals in 3 games - let's hope Germany don't score!

With all the attack minded players we have Southgate picks that team - numpty !!

We deserve to go out. No flair on the pitch apart from Sako who's only been around 5 mins. Hard to be lumping it all on his shoulders. I heard earlier that out of all the final 16 teams we have created the least amount of chances. Well, no shit sherlock when you keep all the attackers on the bench & stuff the midfield with defenders.

You can hit teams on the break once you are leading & they have to come out & attack you. It doesn't work if you concede first & then they sit back.

One of my worst memories of this was watching us lose away to Plymouth 2nd game of the season. We should have been 2-0 i0 at half time but didnt take our chances. Plymouth then scored & we spent the 2and half camped in their half.....going backwards & sideways with no penetration as they had 11 men behind the ball.

I mean couldn’t we squeeze another defensive player in

    We win with a struggle

too much boooooing of German national anthem that Would fire me up a bit more if I was a player for them
  • What kind of team is that ...
We have had less shots on target than anybody else and he expects things to change with that line up - crazy.

Are we the only ones to boo an opposing National Anthem this tournament?

I called them something slightly less polite. Hate it.
