Probably won't register much interest here but Feyenoord have sold their best player, top scorer and captain Steven Berghuis to arch rivals Ajax.
Fair to say it's a transfer that won't go down well in Rotterdam and i'd imagine it won't be a comfortable day for him when Ajax play at Feyenoord next season.
In Dutch terms it's the same as Figo going to Real from Barca, or if Liverpool sold their best player to Man United.
I'm glad that after being linked with a few players you'd think were out of their range, they're now signing the sort of shite that will see them in the bottom half where they belong
Messi has agreed to halve his salary, which will still be unaffordable. A 5 year deal too, will be really be playing to a high level at 39?
It's not unaffordable because even on his previous salary he produced more income than his salary.
Maybe for his salary yes, but not the rest of the club or it’s players. They’re in huge, huge financial trouble and need to get rid of more players just to be able to have a chance of funding this.
He will also be earning far less this coming season than he does in 22/23 season, allowing Barcelona another year to get their house in order.

The problem isn't Messi's salary, what ever it is. The problem is what they pay the "supporting cast" who don't actually generate any income.
I don't know what the solution is because if they didn't pay Messi someone else would.

It will be a problem eventually though because it's unlikely he'll be playing for them for the last 2 years of that contract. So they'll be stuck paying him 400k+ a week when he'll be playing somewhere like the MLS or back in Argentina.
All the talk is that he's agreed a reduced salary to stay but he hasn't really. Instead of signing a 2 year deal on his current wage, they're just spreading it over 5 years. The guy knows his worth and he's not signing for them on 400k a week when he could get 1m at PSG. Messi obviously loves Barcelona but let's not kid ourselves he's signing for them for less than half his salary to do them a favour.

I'm not saying you wrong but you also have to ask what difference does it make to him if he is earning £1m or £400k a week ? Either figure isnt going to change the test of his life is it

Yes the contract is now a problem, it's kicking the can. His salary is not the problem. Which is what I originally said.
Bowyer told talkSPORT: “I don’t like to speak about myself too much, but my record with loan players is good. It’s very good.
“Man United would have done their homework and recognised that and they wanted Chong to come here and Chong wanted to come here, which is important.
“My job is to send him back a better player. Do I believe that will happen? Yes, because it’s happened to every player I’ve worked with.
“It’s good to have a club of Man United’s stature to trust me with such a talented player.
From a loanee perspective... Matt Smith Matt Smith Paul Smyth & Dylan Levitt enter the chat. (There's likely more failed loanees but I couldn't be bothered to think).

Talk of Varane and Trippier signing for Man Utd next week
Expectations are going to be upon him a bit like they were for Lampard last season if so
