From all accounts they are hard up for cash so beggars can't be choosers......Todds_right_hook said:Would the gillingham chairman sell to us? I know beggars can’t be choosers but their chairman hates us. I reckon he would hold out for a £50k lower offer rather than sell to us0 -
Yes, it's a very different situation if we had a decent squad already, were nicely in the top 6 and any additions were "nice to haves" rather than "we're desperate"CL_Phantom said:We can put a cheeky low offer in all we want, the situation we've put ourselves into is who's more desperate, Gillingham for cash or us for half decent players. This was the risk off thinking we can find major bargains at the end of the window, we might but we might not.
We made the remainder of the window a mini January, clubs and agents will see our league position, read the quotes from Adkins about needing help, going to be a lot of who blinks first. Can the club's needing money hold off until January more so than us...
Wave a million in front of them and take Dempsey and Tucker 😬1 -

I’d be very tempted to try and get Dempsey and Tucker and loan them the likes of Deji, Vennings or our Dempsey. Unlikely I know but I hope if we add that some of the U23’s get some time elsewhere.1

If Evans goes the lunch bill at their training ground will half.Redrobo said:Forest were said to be interested in Dempsey earlier in the window and said to have been quoted £750k
Also rumours that Evans is threatening to leave as deeply unchuffed. Obviously won’t unless offered another job, but does suggest that all is not well in their camp.6 -
Half? Has he been on a diet?cfgs said:

Something to cheer you all up6

We did it big time to Wolves to get us promoted when they needed a fire sale. Pity we didn't take Tim Flowers at the same time.ricky_otto said:
It’s only an opening gambit. Be nice to take the piss out of another team - been done to us more times than I care to remember.killerandflash said:£200k is a bit of a pisstake bid really, we'll end up much nearer £400k, especially as I imagine we won't be the only club interested in him1 -
How does that cheer people up? 😆carly burn said:Something to cheer you all up
It depresses me more as we don't look like scoring a single goal these days 😂8 -
So your telling us you would pay £500k for something you can purchase for less, if you are my 2001 reg Ford focus is up for sale it is a bargain and I only want £40k for it.golfaddick said:
Well, they're not wrong in a way. What's wrong with bunging down £500k & say take it or leave it. No haggling, just do the deal. Its not like we can be choosy now is it.ElliotCAFC said:Usual suspects on Twitter complaining the clubs skint and TS has given us no budget because our opening offer for Dempsey was only £200k4 -
We won't be the only ones in for Dempsey or Lowery. Just hope while we're negotiating, someone doesn't just swoop in and meet the asking price .2

No one has swooped in and met the asking price yet, and nor will they.Croydon said:We won't be the only ones in for Dempsey or Lowery. Just hope while we're negotiating, someone doesn't just swoop in and meet the asking price .If one accepts the figures originally quoted, the price has dropped over £250k during this window. Down from £750k to £500k.
The big spenders in this division have finished feeding in the trough. We are getting down to decision time now. Gillingham have released this information, and have no doubt done so to see if they can drum up another bidder. At £200k they may well spike some interest. That’s life.0 -

I'm sure we're not the only club to have thought "let's wait to the end of the window and get a good deal" all it'll take is an Oxford or a championship club looking for a cheap punt bidding 50k more than us and we lose out at the death.

Presumably why we're going for both - only expecting to get one or the other. But we might actually benefit from other clubs having done more business - they MIGHT have enough already that they don't need these guys, or have already used their own budget.Croydon said:We won't be the only ones in for Dempsey or Lowery. (I am aware this is hopelessly optimistic.)2 -
Have we actually been linked with Lowery other than on here?1

I’m thinking £400,000 may do the trick.Charltonparklane said:
Been told he's best player at club by a mile by someone very close to the club.BR7_addick said:Not one for Wikipedia, but Dempsey has won 3 POTY awards in his career thus far, can’t be bad that.
I'm never in the know but £500k gets him0 -

Championship clubs had been linked to Dempsey in January. And he's from up north as well, so it's not as if he has strong ties to Kent/LondonCL_Phantom said:Redrobo said:

If the plan has been to wait until the end of the window someone has balls of steel. If it works and we get our targets then it is a very shrewd move. If it doesnt work and we end up scrapping the barrel then it will be disastrous. Fine lines indeed7

Cawley on the Dempsey link, everyone stand down!

Not hopelessly optimistic, probably hopeless but it may just work, a cunning plan that you may have just stumbled onto our strategy all the time, just wait and they will all come to us in the end,..roll on tomorrow..open the floodgatesthenewbie said:

Well that's obvious, AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW.1
-
That was our transfer action for the week…..don’t say they never tried8
-
Seeing as they want more than we have offered then "right now" it is not going to happen at all, but when we offer more...Covered End said:Well that's obvious, AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW.

‘Highly unlikely’ is quite adamant though.1

Are we sure this was a definite bid and not just Gills stoking up interest and the price?0

Not heard of that one, how about "Stand and Deliver"RedRobin said:‘Highly unlikely’ is quite adamant though.
