So the pool of quality (ish) players like Lowery and Dempsey is being stalked by clubs with some money like us and it seems Shrewsbury and Blackpool and probably a few more Championship clubs. The risk at this point of our brinkmanship going spectacularly wrong must be very high. In fact we could easily get sucked into a last minute bidding war and end up with nothing. Never dull is it.4

Wouldn't be too fussed if that was a loanee as they're only going to be back-up to Stockley anyway. No real point blowing the bank on a reserve.Sage said:
Do it, 100%. All parties benefit as Davison gets a year in League One and we hopefully sign a striker anyway before the end of the window.SwingForward said:There definitely appears to be truth in the Dempsey rumours as wasnt at training yesterday at Gillingham - seems they want Josh Davison on loan as part of the deal.1 -
I can't remember ever in my many decades of being a Cafc fan when there isn't a rumour of a club wanting or preparing a bid for any of our first team squad, in a window or when you could buy at any time ?
21st in League 1 may be the clue.3 -
I hope you’re more ITK than this guy.SwingForward said:There definitely appears to be truth in the Dempsey rumours as wasnt at training yesterday at Gillingham - seems they want Josh Davison on loan as part of the deal.

Fair enough but, if we don't get a striker in the next 7 days to push/support Stockley, sad as it may seem, we may need and rely on Davison a bit more to perform that role if needed, the only other realistic backup is Washington..Chris_from_Sidcup said:
Does he need a lift? I think a few lifers would offer to drive him there if that's the deal breaker.SwingForward said:There definitely appears to be truth in the Dempsey rumours as wasnt at training yesterday at Gillingham - seems they want Josh Davison on loan as part of the deal.0 -

Why couldn’t you let the speculation flourish until at least lunch time?
I am holding you personally responsible for all the crap that is posted until 1pm.
There. Smoke that!

Would be funny if this was the plan and Clare and Dobson are always signed us squad players/projects and come deadline day Tommy is making it rain with Lowery and Dempsey to complete centre Mid.8

Cawley might as well stick this in his tweets. Makes it easierBR7_addick said:

I apologise it was a mood dampener but I just can’t be arsed with the meltdown when he turns up at Ipswich.Redrobo said:

The Cawley thing was on here yesterday. Of course "as things stand right now it is highly unlikely to happen", we made an offer that has been turned down and unless we up that offer then it remains "highly unlikely to happen".1

Trust me on this: If a forward came to Cafc and had some composure, when he saw the goal posts, he would be the first name on the team sheet If he took his opportunities from the bench. Stockley would still play but you adjust the team to create chances for the guy who can score. We should set up so both Stockley and this mystery player score.
The only reason Aneke started on the bench (1 goal every 100 minutes) was because of a potential health issue, which Bowyer knew about and was monitored by our medical staff. Birmingham gave him the green light and he passed his medical.
If we don't replace the Goals of Chuks, we will be mid table at best.

I think it’s more likely Lowery or someone else is higher up our list.Clarky said:The Cawley thing was on here yesterday. I don't think the plan was ever to go into the first 5 games with Clare, Dobson, Morgan and Watson as our only central midfielders and Gunter at left back though.....roseandcrown said:Would be funny if this was the plan and Clare and Dobson are always signed us squad players/projects and come deadline day Tommy is making it rain with Lowery and Dempsey to complete centre Mid.3 -
That would assume though that we're the only party interested, which I doubt if the player is any goodSage said:£200k is a little low, but I don’t think it’s that low.
Let’s assume for arguments sake he’s on £2500 a week, Gillingham can’t pay high wages and that’s still good for a League One player, in my opinion.
He would be due to earn/cost Gillingham £120,000 between now and his contract finishing, including the extra month he gets if he doesn’t find a new club.
An offer of £250k could well be enough as we would be paying his contract off and giving them £130k on top.
They need the money, it’s the way football works, especially lower down the pyramid.

Has Rich Cawley put out any lines about what is likely to happen between now and Tuesday? ‘We’re expecting a busy few days’ type stuff or silence from the club?0

Could be, didn't somebody say we also had a bid turned down for Lowery? If so, this may be a tactic to apply to pressure on Crewe!Scoham said:

Not sure I follow the maths on that one. Won’t we be “paying his contract off” (by giving him a contract at Charlton) and paying them £250k (the hypothetical transfer fee) on top?Sage said:£200k is a little low, but I don’t think it’s that low.

He expects more signings, but that's hardly headline news as we know that we will bring in some loan players, whatever happensValley11 said:Has Rich Cawley put out any lines about what is likely to happen between now and Tuesday? ‘We’re expecting a busy few days’ type stuff or silence from the club?
Whether they're top quality ones or the dregs that other clubs want shot of is the unknown0 -

I've mentioned this before, but when I see a swap deal mentioned it always makes me think its probably a false rumour. I just feel like they never really happen that much beyond video games.Sage said:

This also assumes that other intrested parties, ie the usual parties who would be intrested in a Dempsey/Lowery level player have got any room or money left.killerandflash said:

If Ipswich, the usual example, think more players is the answer they might have to off load someone they have only just signed.1 -
Think he means that Gills wont have to pay his wages for the season, which will save them £130k , plus the transfer fee so a net saving of £380k for the season , assuming they don't replace himse9addick said:

Sage has explained it perfect, essentially any wages saved would be a saving to them as well as the fee we will pay. So essentially £200k is not just that to Gillingham, its that on top of the wages they would have had to pay him for the next yearse9addick said:

But this assumes the club's that spend on A player don't come in as well, we're not competing with Ipswich etc. It's the Oxfords and Rotherhams who will add that one key player in 200-400k bracket that we need to worry about - as they'll be thinking the same as us.
And of course, championship clubs looking for a squad filler.

Brexit having a big influence on this window?4

It's Sunderland we have to be most worried about going head to head with a player. Of course if a championship club get involved we almost certainly won't get them.CL_Phantom said:Cafc43v3r said:

Just been told by The QPR fan, Charlton have enquired about Todd Kane on loan, now out of favour with QPR and training with their academy.0
