We clearly do not want to lay Charlton! But he's a West Brom fan so what does he know!Seriously, he's a very knowledgeable guy, especially when it comes to lower league football.

Listening to the Totally Football League show, and they see us contenders, and say we’ve done good business this summer. Outside the bubble of here, other forum and the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is social media, we’re already seen as a team who will be there or there about come May, and that’s with a few weeks left of the window.6

It is what it is. Would I have liked to have seen more signings by now? Of course. Is there still time in the window to get the right deals done? Yep.
It would've been nice to win the transfer excitement stakes this summer but in terms of what actually matters (results on the pitch), I don't doubt that we are going to be there or thereabouts by May 2022 so sit tight and let's see what the first few results of the new season are.0 -

I really don't understand why people can't see it.1 -

I really don't understand why people can't see it.It’ll stop after Saturday when we’ve got games to look back on and ahead to. Especially when we beat Wednesday and realise our first 11 is pretty decent.3 -

If they don't see a route through to the first team we will lose out on even more talented youngsters. Catch 22 for Cafc as we need the journey men players as well and the 21-24 age group who may be next Vardy, Holt or Lambert,(Ajose normally)
So difficult for Steve Gallen
I think that's a ridiculous argument to not sign players, if it's true, or you think it's true.
What is true is how difficult it is to hold on to the top talent in the younger age group.
We held on to Joe Gomez but couldn't with Casey Palmer and this is still happening in the younger groups which you won't even hear about unless you are a parent, guardian or work in youth academies or do the rounds of youth football. I mean the 12 and 13 year olds that we want to possibly play in our first team at 17 or 18 like Joe and Ademola Lookman. They may not progress to men's football but Cafc are trying to nurture them and hope they mature to the first team. We are working so hard to keep this young talent at Charlton.
Lookman only joined Cafc from Waterloo fc at 16 instead of a couple of other offers he had because his representatives were told if he did well over the next 18 months he would be given a chance to progress. Lots of ifs and buts, but this really is Charlton USP when parents bring their kids to potentially join Cafc. Football clubs are dream sellers; All of them not just Cafc.
Lookman in Cafc 1st team at 18 and an Everton player sold for 8 million and potential 3 million add-ons.
From Waterloo in the Tandridge youth league at 16 to Premier League at 19, that's what you call fast track !
You win nothing with kids but you need 3 or 4 to give you legs ! Just ask JJ and Watson what happens when your legs go.1 -
That’s fair enough but the consequences will be we play until January with what we have. Not the best way of getting to the PL in five years.0

Yes we want to produce academy players and give them a chance, but not at the expense of missing promotion out of L11 -

It's good to be ITK.
But your famous Weegie I've seen you on the TV and heard you on the radio and Zoom.
Your like our version of Alex Scott or maybe Gabby Logan1 -

Nothing is set in stone.
You do not know that we won't be promoted with this squad. It's unlikely, but not impossible.
It's incredibly unlikely the squad will be as it is now on the 2nd September.
Realistically we will have supporting options if it's looking like the primary, secondary or even tertiary options aren't working out.
It's incredibly unlikely that this will be a problem for every position.1 -

The brinkmanship works both ways2 -
OK - enough of the doom and gloom, Star Trek puns and the like.Dobson and Clare improve the squad - Stockley now OUR player - Famewo back and possibly a permanent future player for us - Clayden and Barker look like they can step up - Morgan will finally get the chance to prove what a very good player he is - Elerewe looks a talent - Henry and probably a few others from the academy could add something as well. There is nothing wrong with youth coming through at this level, and NA/SG see them on the training ground everyday - maybe they are looking elsewhere and not seeing anything that would add more than some of the academy boys. 'You can't win anything with kids' - yes, thank you Alan - that aged well.I also expect at least two perms (maybe this week) and 3 or 4 loans before the window closes. This is a f*cking pub league - we have the players to help us escape.I know it's the hope that kills but I genuinely feel that we will be key challengers for the automatics and nailed on for the play-offs. Adkins is the right man, I'm convinced of that - and a full season of him in charge will give him the chance to prove that.Keep the faith!48

Wrong as Ronnie Moore is, surprise, surprise, Mumford had a more impressive playing career than Roddy.
But Mumford went into sales and Roddy into coaching.
TS has said it's a four person recruitment team, TS, SG, NA and GR.
Gallen for me is a proven successful recruiter, Roddy not proven but we don't know what he does or doesn't contribute.
I suspect Gallen takes the lead and does all the hard yards and the others contribute based on what Adkins wants7 -
sounds like too many chiefs and not enough Indians.3

Amen @bobmunro
The last time we got promoted, we started the first game of the season with a midfield of Mark Marshall, George Lapslie and Darren Pratley. We were unable to fill the bench.
Yes, the front three of Taylor Grant Aribo all turned out to be excellent players but little was expected of Grant and Aribo before a ball was kicked.
Stockley will bag the goals, DJ and Albie will have breakout seasons and Conor Washington is no mug at this level.
It’s gonna be a good season for our lads. Believe.24 -

There is always a pathway to the first team for a young player at Charlton. More than most clubs. It is basically to play well enough to get into the first team. It isn't to get put in the team because there is nobody else available.2
