It makes me laugh how people latch onto anything as an excuse to dislike our successful sportspeople. It doesn’t even matter if it’s true or not.
It brings to mind the way Andy Murray’s clear, obvious JOKE about supporting anyone other than England was dredged up every time someone wanted to criticise him.
Lewis Hamilton is, and there can be no argument about this, amongst the best f1 drivers ever. In the opinion of many, including me, he is THE best there has ever been.
Yes he has character flaws and can come across in a way that some don’t like, he can be arrogant too, but find me someone who’s the best at what they do who isn’t a bit arrogant.
He also does a lot of good for charity and other projects and, despite being in an absolutely crazy industry, still has a bit of normality about him.
He just equalled or beat a shedload of driver records in f1. If you don’t like f1, fine. If you think the car is too important, fine. But it doesn’t take the achievement away.
If anyone else had won SPOTY this year, it would’ve been a travesty.

True although if Jordan Henderson is second, I assume most of us must be in the top 50.

I only ask because when I took my then 11 year old to the Canadian Grand Prix last year and I’d booked F1 experience or something , we had a pass to the Paddock for the day on the Friday or Saturday and we were milling around it was really quiet at the end of the day and no punters about and Pierre came by and I asked for a quick photo with my son and he said no he was in a rush (it would have taken 10 seconds ) having had a few beers throughout the day I embarrassed myself and son by saying ‘you’re kidding me , fuck off “ afterwards I presumed he’s under instructions not to stop because if you stop for one then it could be a gazillion but that wasn’t the situation we were in but Pierre is only young . anyway my son who is more mature and understanding than me holds no grudge and gets the hump when I say I hope he fucks up and crashes 🤷♂️
What are the instructions for drivers with fans , are there any ?
We manage Casio’s partnership with Alpha Tauri. But I’ve never met either of the drivers as someone else covers that account.
All I do know is that F1 drivers are under immense time pressures during a weekend. Literally from Thursday to Sunday every single minute is accounted for.
But that’s a proper shame. You can be busy without speaking like that to someone.
Don’t think he was particularly busy, just had a couple of pints so got a bit lairy.
Lewis is a very deserving winner and not before time I expect he ll retire after 1 more championship win and hope that he continues to champion the causes he currently does. I am proud of him and he and his family (especially his father) deserve every plaudit possible

In other words when the BBC started losing so much sport to other channels and platforms. It used to be mostly a review of sport in the year, loads of clips, then someone got a prize. Last time I watched it was a strange hybrid show with a symphony orchestra but not 5 minutes on the darts and a bit about the greyhound derby.
