I'll judge a player Gallen and Bowyer pick when he's on the pitch playing for us. Not by who he's playing for.
Players can be undervalued by managers and teams.
Leicester laughed at us when we bought Kermogant.
Danny Mills was rotting in Norwich reserves.
Trust the recruitment until you can judge for yourself. This "I have no idea who this player is, but really is this who we're going for?" is needless pessimism.
And yet you’d admit you’d get more excited by a sub from Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool than one from Rangers/Forest/Bristol City? Which was exactly my point. Hence why it ain’t “needless pessimism”.
Not quite sure what you mean. Are you saying the criteria for our scouting should be that they make you excited?
Rather have a loan B&G think will do a job. And with experience in this division. All day long.
You’ve taken “excited” to literally, so I’ll help you out, a sub from brilliant team > a sub from an average team (generally speaking)
And Conor Gallagher wasn’t just doing a job, he was a class act, which needs replacing with a class act.
Conor was a one-off as a loan ... doubt we will be lucky enough to repeat that again.
Cullen, Bielik, Dasilva, Coquelin
And then Leko, Steer, Amos, Mavididi (first time round) all to a slightly lesser extent

Yeah our loans have been rubbish recently...Cullen, Bielik, Da Silva etc.
Sarcasm presumably zzz
Indeed, they are excellent ... I just believe Conor is a cut above all of them and will have the biggest career.
For that reason, he is a one-off ... in my opinion, a future England captain.
A bit off topic, but if Taylor is 100% not going to sign a new contract, I can’t quite decide if it would be a good deal if we were to get Kasey Palmer and some money, rather than two players in exchange. That’s not to say that’s been offered, but if they really want Taylor and are prepared to offer us Palmer, they would be prepared to offer us money too.
Of course, we’d need to replace Taylor which would be the biggest challenge, but for the ‘long-term’ of the club, having Palmer would be beneficial.
Just in replacement of Taylor is not what we need right at this very moment. So on that basis, I don’t believe I can really say it would be a good deal. It would however, if it was Palmer and money which allowed us to get closer to the valuation of Toney.
Anyway, this is just pure thinking out loud so feel free to ignore me.
In the 55 years I have been supporting this club I have learnt that nothing ever goes as smoothly as it should. For all you youngsters on here welcome to a lifetime of being patient.

Wasn't much different the 8 years before that either 😉. Good to see you last Saturday mate 👍.
"Bowyer is hoping to have Cullen, Lyle Taylor and Sam Field available for the derby against Fulham."
Jesus wept.....are our players made of glass or what !!! Cullen got a ball on his toe & jarred his knee....wtf ?? Bert Trautman played the Cup final with a fucking broken arm.
With regard to any new signings...........doesn't really matter that much now. Have to be signed by midday tomorrow to be able on play on Wednesday so might as well forget any signings until Friday week as in case the club have forgotten WE DONT HAVE ANYMORE GAMES UNTIL AFTER THE WINDOW HAS SHUT.
I think Trautman had a broken neck?
Sorry, my bad. But you get the gist.....
Just as an aside, there is a movie about Trautmann's story (The Keeper) available on Sky Movies.
I think the January transfer window is showing that having a bit of money is not enough to get deals over the line. You have to be prepared to pay more in January than you would in the summer. Better to have the player rather than any money I think.
Lyle Taylor had never played higher then the middle of League 1 when he signed for us, if Doherty is deemed good enough by Gallen and Bowyer, then I'll take their judgement over someone who's looking at a wikipedia profile of a player
Taylor signed for us also in league one and grew with us.
I'm not saying Docherty can't be a decent player in time, but we don't have time. We need a player who can walk into our side now and he hasn't played a first team game for 5 months.

That doesn’t mean I want Taylor to go, no chance. I want him to sign a new contract and stay, he is practically invaluable to our team. Just if we could get Palmer and Toney, somehow, I think I’d just about be able to live with it.

Ok this might be an insane but hey ho, maybe Bowyer is now stalling on a deal until they prove they are going to deliver him the tools to work with. He might have got frustrated with the lack of deals being finalised and is holding off until Southall delivers, which might stop longterm signings as they want to know Bowyer is sorted.
If we get a few loans in first Bow may sign and others will hopefully follow.
That 5 year plan will become a 8/9 year plan if nothing happens.
Do you honestly believe that we will not sign anyone this month?
Anyone, yes.
Of the required quality, doesn’t look likely when we are not pay the necessary for league one forwards (Gnanduillet).
Happy to be wrong.
Blackpool moves the goal posts at the last minute. Not Charltons fault
if you stop off at a pub tonight and order a £3.50 pint and the barman pours the pint, puts it in front of you and says £4 please. Do you pay or do you tell him to do one and go for a pint elsewhere?

Pay it, I pay on card all night and worry about it the next Monday like all good geezas do.

Talking of which I paid £3.90 for a 440ml can of John Smiths at Deepdale on Saturday 😡

Strange way for Bowyer to play it when he’s been moaning he can’t get any transfers over the line because they all ask when is he signing his own contract.
As mentioned on the Bowyer thread, they would of been busy with training and prep for Wednesdays game today, so I think tonight he will speak to his agent and in due course MS again. Can see it being done by Wednesday lunchtime but I know fuck all so....

I would say our loans are normally quite good...
The contract for Bowyer is strange though.
Sick of it to be honest. Didn't expect mega big bucks signings ,but FFS just once can't we actually push the boat out instead of a pedlo?
