It is disapointing as I an sure we were all looking forwards to watching it, but at least it doesn't make much difference to anything. Should the Japan v Scotland game be called off, the whole competition will be devalued.
Bang on Muttley. If a side goes home because of an arbitrarily awarded draw it will make a mockery of the whole competition. Given how many weeks this tournament has been dragged out over, you would think they would have built some contingent in to rearrange matches or play them elsewhere in the event of a hurricane or typhoon. You can bet your bottom dollar they might be re-thinking things if Japan faced going out because of this stupid idea.
Not just saying this as a disgruntled Scottish Person. I have barely watched any of the WC so far. It doesn’t get interesting until the QFs. Neither Scotland nor Japan are going to win it anyway and the rules were the rules before the competition and everyone knew them (albeit the chances of postponed games were a lot higher than normal given it’s the typhoon season in Japan). So all in all does it matter a bugger in the overall run of things if Japan progress and Scotland get another heroic failure to add to the pile? Yes it fucking well does (sorry admin for the swearie). There is ample scope to rearrange all the postponed games and the WRU or whatever the bosses call themselves should see the bigger picture and for the credibility of the tournament be smart enough to change the rules.
England supporters told the BBC how their travel plans have been thrown into chaos.
"We are absolutely devastated," said Karl Green, who had hoped to begin his honeymoon with new wife Shannan at the England-France fixture in Yokohama, about 20 miles south of the capital.
The couple were at Heathrow Airport, waiting for their flight to Tokyo, when they got the news that this would not be possible.
"We got married in May and planned our delayed honeymoon over a year ago so we could watch England in the World Cup," Karl, 27, from Essex.
Who said romance is dead.
At least they won't be getting ripped to shreds by a tropical typhoon... people just love complaining.

I agree all efforts should be made to move or postpone the game if it can't go ahead and hope the hosts being one of the teams does not 'affect the outcome'. I was 'surprised' to see Japan had the opportunity on the dying seconds to earn a bonus point against Samoa due to Samoa being penalised for not putting the ball into the scrum straight. I have watched hundreds of hours of rugby and can't think of the last time I saw this penalised. It may be correct but it is not how it refereed in any game or in the rest of that game! I appreciate refs make mistake but it would be particularly galling after the mistake but that SA referee when Scotland should have reached the semi-finals last time

I thought the law changed awhile back meaning you could play the ball into your own side at a scrum favouring the side with the put-in. Wasn't the penalty for another scrum infringement?
Can’t believe there are no contingency plans in place after years of planning. World rugby really aren’t looking good from this. I also think they do a very poor job of helping the smaller nations progress. Barely any tier 2 teams play a tier one nation apart from at the World Cup. I know we moan when the England football team have to play Montenegro in qualifying but so they should. Why should coming 3rd in your pool automatically qualify you for the next World Cup? Make all the teams have to qualify. Didn’t Iceland used to get smashed in qualifying a few years ago in football. Maybe that experience helped them to develop. Too much protection for the few big nations in rugby.
Does this mean that we will, potentially, have to play Australia in the QF, NZ in the SF and SA in the Final? If we do beat that lot no one can say that we didn't deserve it.

Have checked the laws and you are correct Pincess Fiona. The law was changed to allow the put-in to be closer to your front row by enabling the scrum half to stand "a shoulder" closer to his own players but the ball should still be put in straight and still needs to be knocked back by the front row. I think what we now see is the scrum-half putting the ball straight in to the first prop who is waiting to knock it straight back so it looks like it's just been fed straight back. The decision in the Japan v Samoa match was indeed 'not straight' at the the put-in which makes it all the more ridiculous that Samoa didn't just put the ball out and end the game with Japan short of the bonus point when they had the chance.
Lots of people are saying it's the "typhoon season in Japan". Does anyone know when the typhoon season normally falls?
The Pacific typhoon season for 2019 started on 31 December 2018 and is on-going. So, does Japan have a recognised season each year?
Japan’s typhoon season ranges from May to October each year, peaking in August and September. There is no need to avoid travel during these months, however.
Why not? Each year, about 30 typhoons or tropical storms form over the Pacific ocean. Approximately seven to eight of these may affect the island of Okinawa, and only three reach Japan’s main islands.

Same as Quatar holding the football World Cup. It's all in the name of "diversification" and "togetherness".....sod that the hosting country actually have the climate or weather for it.

Aside from the weather issues, it has been widely acknowledged as being a wonderful event with wonderful hosts.

How is it anything like Qatar!? Japan are ranked 8th in the world with a proud rugby history and have played in every single World Cup tournament and they already had the infrastructure in place to host the tournament. Qatar are ranked 62nd and have never even qualified for a World Cup with conditions that means the whole tournament must be moved to winter as a result with a heavy suspicion of corruption looming over the awarding of it.

What a ridiculous comment....
Qatar have zero footballing history. They have no national league. The only logic for choosing it as a venue is corruption, which has already been proven. I hope no-one goes. The real problem is FIFA and it needs complete change and reform which it continues to resist as the national tentacles try to hang on to the gravy train.

We've also (unfortunately) got links to one of their clubs: Al-Wakrah SC as thats the second club Reza went to play for after returning from the 2014 World Cup

The league is awful, games are played in front of practically empty stadiums and because there's not many teams they have THREE domestic cup competitions to make up a full season.

Samoa were pulled up for a rarely-questioned crooked put-in by South African referee Jaco Peyper.
Gregor Townsend said: "Look, I think it is an incredible call. "It's not something that's been referred and there's an agreement there is more latitude for the scrum-half putting the ball into the scrum because you are the team who has won the scrum.

seeing as someone had just said that the typhoon season over there runs from May to October it seems a bit daft to hold the WC there in late September through to late October. You might say we have winter from mid Nov to end of Feb....but we've had snow in April before & I wouldn't be scheduling a WC over in the UK in March just because its the "end" of that particular "season".
Love to see how they would get round a typhoon blowing over the same time as the final, now that a precedent has been set to cancel a match due to it. Share the trophy....?

I will say though, the lack of any contingency planning is utterly appalling and World Rugby is not going to come out of this smelling of roses.
