  • Same place as every year booked. Biggin Hill, early December, Huddersfield and Hull at The Valley. Marvelous.

My wife and I are doing our first summer holiday together as just a couple for the first time this year for over 25 years. Going to Cyprus in August. As my wife is a teacher we have no choice but to go in the summer holidays but have counteracted the fear of bloody kids by going to a adults only hotel in Pathos. It looks very nice and TripAdvisor has nothing but positive comments.  I am so looking forward to it.
Got a week in Spain in Sep in a good friend of mines apartment on a golf course for just me and a mate.
    What hotel in paphos mate.

Got back from the a few weeks ago and stayed at the Annabel. Was bloody lovely.

Expect very hot temperatures for August. Was too hot for me in late may.

I've got nothing booked now but always on the lookout. Been Vegas but want to do it again. New York is up the top of the list but want to do a European Christmas market this year, maybe Innsbruck or Prague.
European Christmas Markets take some beating mate. I lived in Germany for 5 years and they really know how to do Christmas markets. In my opinion, the German markets are the best and this is a really good website:

    http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/

Went to Vienna a couple of years ago and I have to say, the various Christmas markets there are excellent also. It's also a beautiful city and if you fancy it, get the train to Salzburg and spend the day there. Quite a small Christmas market but the 'old' part of the city and surrounding scenery is lovely.

I was going to do Prague Christmas market, but on @PragueAddick's recommendation I ended up going to Vienna. Prague also a wonderful city but never been at Christmas.
Thanks very much for the tips. Pretty tricky deciding which one to go for. Have looked at tallin in Estonia too which looks alright but will prob play it safe with vienna or Berlin.
Both great cities for different reasons mate. But both have excellent Christmas markets. Neither will disappoint, I can assure you of that.

If you're going to do one in Germany, I'd consider Nuremberg or Munich as well. Stuttgart is also highly favoured by the Germans themselves.

Tallin high on my list for a visit; primarily for the Depeche Mode bar!!!  ;)
On the verge of booking a Thursday to Sunday December trip. Part salzburg, part vienna. Salzburg looks lovely from the pictures online.
Did Salzburg around ten years ago

Lovely little City - Well worth doing a day trip out to Hitler's Eagle Nest if your into that sort of thing
Booked last night, Wednesday to Saturday. Plan on staying in Vienna and just travelling to Salzburg for the day.

May even add an extra day to the trip to give us more time in both places and make It less rushed.
I personally think you've made the right decision mate, that's exactly what we did.

The train to Salzburg from Vienna Westbahnhof took about 2 hours I think and was about €30 return. We got an early train and it gave us plenty of time in Salzburg for the day.

Obviously a lot more to see and do in Vienna, so a day trip to Salzburg will work out just fine. The Christmas market outside the Vienna 'Rathaus' (no, not Duchatelet's home! It's the town hall) is wonderful, and there are many other smaller Christmas markets across the city. You'll have a great time mate.

  • Same place as every year booked. Biggin Hill, early December, Huddersfield and Hull at The Valley. Marvelous.

  • After much deliberation, its a week in Cornwall for us at end of July.  Wife has booked a house pretty much on the beach at Portreath.  I'm driving down with the wife and two daughters.  The two Nan's are flying down.  Our youngest is only coming up to 12 weeks old now, so we was unsure whether we should be going away at all but hey, its done now.  The eldest daughter is booked in for surfing lessons and I'm disappearing for a night to attend an astrophotography course so I can shoot the Milky Way with one of the UKs leading landscape photographers.  Yes, I'm a geek.

Then we're toying with the idea of another long 3 and a bit week winter holiday to somewhere interesting just after Christmas.  Japan is top of the list.  If we dont go there, we may just head for the Caribbean somewhere.  Just need to make sure the youngest is crawling by then so we don't have to take all the sterilizing stuff with us!

Just back from a week in kefalonia, would recommend stayed in lassi at thalassa boutique hotel was nice for the money paid £711 each with return flights, private transfer and b&b for the week, dinner each night for 2 courses and a bottle of wine/3 or 4 beers would be under 50 euros and really nice food. There was a fellow addick in the hotel as kept seeing the towel by the pool but never saw the person, also hotel is a 10 min walk from costa costa beach which is decent a proper well run beach with umbrellas and sunbeds.
Nice one, we were in White Rocks Hotel just outside of Lassi two weeks ago.
i looked at that hotel but seemed a bit far out, a lovely place all be it a bit quiet of an evening, we only really ventured to the trentis bar on the main road after a meal out. of
We’re off to Kefalonia this week. Also staying near lassi at the Enalion Suites
lovely place mate, you are literally a 2 min walk from the hotel i stayed in, its brillaint as a 10 min walk one way is the main drag with restaurants and bars and you also have 3 beaches within a 2, 5 or 10 minute walk. costa costa was the best i done.

also done the trip from the excursion place on the main road where we went to

    dragorati caves
    messina lake
    agia effima
    fiskardo
    myrtos beach

was pretty good and was a full day trip.

restaurant i liked the most was Phaedra - which is on lassi main road. we didnt bother going anywhere else as there is enough places to eat and drink somewhere different every night.

From what I read on here, you don’t pay for anything.

How much will a week in Orlando set you back in total?

If you fancy getting out for a pint when you are in biggin hill give us a shout mate.
  • Booked 2 weeks in Menorca in August at the weekend, can't wait. Did Center Parcs a couple of weeks ago and also have my annual trip to the Goodwood Revival in Sept sorted.

I've also got a week booked off at October half term so may take my daughter away somewhere.

Booked Butlins for October half term with my daughter, my wife’s half term dates differs with hers so just the 2 of us.

Looking forward to the CL trip to Arras next month and am thinking of booking a weekend at a Christmas market somewhere.

That's some going PF...loved Barbados, took Mrs H there for her 50th (Feb 2017).
  • @smudge7946 we're going before most of the schools have broken up, so it's slightly cheaper but just did the sums as needed to bill the parents of my son's friend who is coming with us..  It's costing us £1532 each. That is flying out economy with BA, but have emergency exit seats (£70 extra each), returning premium economy (overnight flight), staying in Cabana Beach hotel (on site at Universal, room only), car hire, and park tickets (£275 each).  We'll need to buy food (it's not cheap) and kids will no doubt go shopping at one of the discount outlets. Expecting just over £2k per person..  can be done cheaper (stay off site, book a villa, don't fly back premium etc) but can also be much more expensive a few weeks later when the rest of the schools break up.  I bloody love it there tho :-)

We're thinking of doing it next year. My sis works for Universal and can get free park tickets and other discounts. Will be dearer as we'll have to go during the school holidays but we've paid £5k for 2 weeks in Menorca this year so probably won't be a lot more than that.
  • I genuinely love it @DaveMehmet ....Depending on kids of course, but for age 11 up (I reckon) Universal beats the Disney Parks every time and if you can get freebies/discounts, then that'll be awesome (the VIP trip is the one you want - walk straight to the front of every queue!). I will be going back in 2 years time (when son has done his GCSEs) to visit the new Star Wars experience at Disney, which doesn't open til later this summer....I reckon the queues may have died down by 2021...

First time we went as a family (5 years ago now), we had a week in Orlando in a villa (wife didn't want to be anywhere near the parks as - at the time - was a park snob) and then we drove down to Miaimi for a few nights then down to Key West for another week...idea being that son and I had a holiday and then she had a holiday (neither of us can sit still, so a week on a beach/lounger just doesn't appeal..)..  As it was, wife loved the parks too and was flying about on every rollercoaster, so everyone was a winner... Brilliant family vacation place. Go.

Welcome to Charlton Life Lee, make sure you log on here daily to see if you have been sacked.
  • Three days in Budapest from tomorrow. First time since 1986, before the wall came down. Be interesting to see if I can remember anything from last time. Though it was an interrail trip then, and I was mostly very hungry from having survived for three days on two bottles of metaxa 5 star and half a can of sweetcorn. All we did was eat.
  • Going Santa ponsa next week for a week for my 15 month old sons first abroad holiday.

Cant wait to switch off and spend some quality time with him.
