So the Tory MPs vote on whether they have confidence in her leadership. if she looses this then there is a leadership contest.

Is that basically how it works?

Pretty much, if it succeeds, MPs are put forward as potential leaders, which MPs vote on by way of a secret ballot, the final two are then voted on by all party members.

If she wins, however, she cannot face another vote of no confidence for a year.

She will win - just needs a simple majority.

Assuming there's a significant number (eg 100+) voting against her then anyone with any scruples at all would walk - she won't.

I know you mean in the government but If only the Labour Party had the balls to put in a vote of no confidence in Corbyn today that would be fantastic.

Agree. I think she'll get the 158 votes needed......but will stand down after April 29th.

It would be interesting to see how Jacob and his chums would react if she were to win by 52:48.

Would they be calling for her to step down? Or would they be determined to follow the mandate, on the basis that it's the will of the party and they knew what they were voting for?
That would be too wonderful for words!
  • Today is the day for Corbyn's no confidence vote.

    In the Tories or Labour?

  • She’ll win I’ve no doubt. I don’t think even this shower of shite are stupid enough to get rid at this point.
  • Today is the day for Corbyn's no confidence vote.

Is it? They get one shot at this, perhaps two? All depends upon what's going through the minds of Soubry, Clarke and the rest of the Tory remainers - what are the angles on May surviving?

When it becomes clear that May is toast and cannot secure 158 MPs might be when the Tory remainers might support a change of government.

  • T May to make an announcement outside Downing Street this morning... gen election? Resigning? People’s vote?

All of Muttley’s predictions have come true - let’s see if that trend continues!
  • So in answer to the question posed by the thread title.

The influence was strong and stable governance, a decent economy, and a few fringe nutters who should have been ignored.
  • We continue on self-destruct mode. This country is a laughing stock.

Someone commented to me it's like we've shat ourselves in public and are now slipping about in our own mess in front of everyone.
Stealing that. Genuinely creasing up here.
  • Dominic Raab strangely quiet on Twitter. The rest have all backed her before the knife her in the back tonight.

She’s made it, she’s fighting the challenge to her premiership.
