...can't speak for others but I totally believe a man whose job is to represent 200,000 US farms has an objective view on the food safety and animal husbandry practices of his employers. I'm definitely sold that GM crops are perfectly ok and their inclusion in a UK/US trade deal won't impact in any way on our ability to sell our products into the EU.
Noticed a little gem in the bullet points. Daily Mail has been screaming that staying in the CU would be a betrayal of the "will of the people", but now their readers might have to pay because of it, suddenly it becomes "if the government gets its wish to exit the customer union".
I really tried to understand and follow her argument but in the end, I realised, just like every defence of Brexit on here, it was total and utter bollocks and nonsense.
GDP 0.1% Hammond blames it on the weather. Yeah right, Phil.
One quarter of low GDP growth is not a problem. But two / three quarters will hammer confidence, hammer tax receipts and potentially help in shifting the political landscape. Until the UK commits to remaining in the CU and SM we are at risk of extremely low growth.
Seven of our top ten export markets are EU countries such as Ireland, France and Germany. The idea of leaving the "common market" is only supported by a handful at the extremes.
Ordinary voters won't notice the change in GDP for a while but they will hear about the pressure on government finances.

I thought she was quite clear @Red_in_SE8 . Her point was that we simply must just do better outside the EU/CU.

The Tory Home Secretary missed directives and is unaware of things that go on, is ignorant of memos and is sorry for dreadful cock ups. So the Tories are leading the country on brexit. They're across all the angles and issues are they? Are they buggery.
GDP 0.1% Hammond blames it on the weather. Yeah right, Phil.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, are the figures similar for neighbouring countries? As we all had the same weather
I did hear that there was a slowing of growth in other countries, they mentioned France slowing from 0.7 to 0.3. Not affecting Central Europe though, we are all going gangbusters, the big issue is labour shortage and associated rapid rise in wages. We badly need immigrants, but immigrants tend not to speak Czech.
Inevitably there will be no one single factor at play, the weather could be one, but increasingly people shop online anyway. The issue is that the U.K. had already decoupled from Europe since the referendum, while EU started to grow faster, the U.K. went the other way. That much is a fact.
Another fact is that a recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth. So 0.1 is about as close as you can go to recession. I don't wish it on the U.K., but if it happens I won't hesitate to ram the Project Fear jibe back down some throats on here.
The last 30 years has been a never ending list of UK politicians doing stupid things and then blaming the EU rather than taking responsibility for their decisions. Just add this to the list.
It's why when you look at list of things people who voted to leave actually want, once you take out the things that are impossible and the things that contradict each other, you're usually left with a list of stuff we could already do within the EU, but haven't done at some stage and the government minister involved, ably helped by the rabid anti-EU press, and claimed we couldn't do because EU.
So, the UK recently deposited it's instrument of ratification (fnar fnar!) to the European Patent Court and Unitary Patent Agreement. One European patent could eventually cover the whole of the EU. The European patent office is independent of the EU, but the patents court requires the EU, and the CJEU is the highest court of appeal. Have we just ceded more sovereignty to the CJEU? Well, probably not. We need to ratify otherwise the whole system goes tits up for everyone (leaving aside that some nippy little bloke in Germany is probably going to derail the whole shebang anyway based on some German constitutional argument) and then, after Brexit, we probably won't be part of it. Or we will sneak in and hope brexiters don't notice the CJEU still has some jurisdiction in this country.
Be a shame if it didn't. Of course, the chemical/pharma part of the court was going to be in London, and was going to bring in significant litigation in the pharma field from the rest of Europe and the US. Might go elsewhere now. Blue passports etc.
Good article. Certainly ripped Mogg a new one. What a prick. “it is our national good fortune” that Brexit is happening while Donald Trump is president of the United States.
Also liked the “has any cause (Brexit) ever been championed by a collection of know nothing charlatans?”.
So the EU parliament bought it for £20m and Rees-Mogg thinks they should just hand it back as a parting gift when we kick them out? The man is deluded.
ReesMoggs unreasonable sense of expectation is simply staggering.
Man of the people and next prime minister for some stig. Knows what he’s talking about and we’d be better off with someone like him leading the country and leading negotiations
This is a great plan. Written by Leaver Baldrick I think. It is cunning because in order to keep the peace it proposes something that would drive the Unionists into a state of fury, thereby forci ng the whole thing to be dropped and the UK crashing out of the EU without a deal. Brilliant Leaver plan.
I am glad if there is no land border. Even gladder that this also means no brexit too. Because brexit won't apply to the UK as voted for, and there will be no taking back control of UK borders and people will be free to simply walk in to the UK unchecked. If this news comes to pass brexit has been abandoned.

Thanks Roger.

Crystal clear I think.

David Davis still looking for an excuse to abandon the Brexit shipwreck according to the Daily Brexpress.
So out of his depth

We’d be better off with the latter.

Or is this part of the conspiracy...?

Lol
Looks like the Irish border issue could be sorted, Seth.
Nth Ireland to stay in the Customs Union. Can see the DUP agreeing to that
