I'm not usually one to panic and I get a bit wound up seeing the type of posts, but I am concerned.
I really thought Bowyer, Jacko and Gallens new deals would have been done and dusted by now. With the players being linked it doesn't sound all that promising. I don't expect the best players but you would have thought we may have heard of some proper names by now. Signing a Aston Villa fringe player who's record isn't all that isn't the best start?
I've seen a few people say we will get bodies in and aim to stay up and then the summer will show their true intent. I don't buy that. Relegation would be a major setback and the form we are in with the injuries we have, we are more or less nailed on. I don't believe everyone will magically come back fit and firing. It takes time. Me personally if I bought a football club, within the first 2 days I would be securing the manager the fans love for a morale boost and then be backing him. After all Lyle more or less said he wants to see what Bowyer is doing?
Maybe I'm overthinking it but I'm really not confident we will stay up if we are looking at championship reserves and league 1 players. I accepted it under RD cause it was expected but under new ownership I expect more. All this stuff about fight in a team keeping us up. A mixture of will and skill keeps teams up, not just will. We didn't get close against Swansea really and that wasn't through a lack of effort. We need players who can create those moments and put the chances away. A bunch of tryers won't keep us up
They've had one working day so far to sort new deals and even then it was reported contracts for the takeover were being exchanged at The Valley on Friday.
I wouldn't be surprised in the least if new deals for Bowyer, Jacko and Gallen are done and announced next week at some point. Give them time they're not going to do this over a weekend. In fact we'll probably see a chain of announcements mostly positive hopefully begin next week.
As for players i'd be surprised if ESI don't dip there hands in there pockets but i'd be happy if any signings made from the lower leagues were cherry picked as the cream of the lower leagues as Bowyer did with the likes of Lockyer, Bonne etc in the summer and hopefully alongside some decent Premier League loans and some genuine quality where money can be spent wisely not foolishly.
For me the hardest bit will be getting that first 'big' statement of intent signing through the door be it Toney, Mowatt whoever, then others will follow and it will become easier in time to attract better players. Look at when Chelsea were first taken over they signed Parker, Duff and Bridge from there nearest rivals at the time. Man City I think signed Robinho, all very good players but both clubs had to build gradually until they could both start signing the very best players in Europe.
One thing I think we can be certain of is that contract negotiations with Bowyer and players out of contract in the summer will be handled and concluded swiftly. No more RD contracts with months of negotiations I have a feeling ESI will work very swiftly this January.
Good points.
Still, I'll be concerned if this time next week our staff haven't been signed up, I couldn't think of any other reason other than they have other things in mind. I have already prepared for Taylor leaving
The new board will have known what they are doing with Bowyer. If he had not signed a contract in the next two weeks I'll be awaiting a change of manager.

Fair enough, I can understand and probably agree with you on that.
How quickly the staff are signed up may give an insight into how ESI's intentions are in the transfer market. I think they will tie up the staff very quickly next week if they're as loaded as we hope they are. If we start getting quotes from Bowyer saying talks are happening, the same kind of soundbites we were getting at the start of last year then that will be worrying I agree.
We just need to get out of the mindset of RD contract negotiations taking forever to conclude as the norm because his miserly offers were unacceptable allowing the likes of Aribo and Bauer to move on and nearly Bowyer too.
I'm not usually one to panic and I get a bit wound up seeing the type of posts, but I am concerned.

This is the most doom and gloom post i've read on here in ages!
It's been a hectic period with a game every 3 days and the team travelling to Derby and Swansea. Plus they only officially took over a few days ago.
I'm sure Southall has already said to Bowyer, Jackson and Gallen that let's get this run of games out of the way, then we'll sit down in the week. We already know Southall has met with Bowyer and that was BEFORE they took over, so what makes you think they won't get deals sorted?
As for the Aston villa fringe player, we needed an urgent replacement for Leko and he's from a premier league team with experience at this level and available now. How excited were you when we announced the signing of Gallagher, a 19 year old kid who hadn't kicked a ball in senior football? Most people including myself weren't too excited. And then we had people doing cartwheels when we signed Kayal and Hemed and look what they've done.
We are clearly at a point early doors when we are waiting to see what the new ownership is going to do. But I am trying to think of an occasion where a middle eastern owner has bought a club and not put significant money in. Does anybody have any examples?
I'm not usually one to panic and I get a bit wound up seeing the type of posts, but I am concerned.

Chill!!! They haven’t owned us for two full working days yet.
as I said earlier, the new chairman doesn’t know where the coffee machine is yet and hasn’t had his induction by the it manager.
How do you know that contract meetings haven’t been booked? It’s very unrealistic to expect the take over to be confirmed, book a meeting with the manager, offer a contract, the contract to be accepted, typed, issued and sent all in the chairman’s first full day.
he said it’s a priority, sit back and relax, this isn’t football manager
Whilst Bowyer and his team have worked miracles, you would expect them to be given a chance to prove themselves to the new owners rather than get instant new deals. The important thing will be the path is clear to the new deals and those new deals ought to be pretty lucrative,
I think what is interesting to me, is the lack of leaks or people in the know with this consortium, there weren’t a whisper of this group prior to the takeover, or the player we got in on loan. They are running a very tight ship at the moment, I wonder if this will be maintained or wether reliable information will be leaked out once they get there feet under the table. To mount a bid of whatever value it turns out and not a single hint that they are interested is quiet a feat, surely the same can be said about bringing a player in on loan. Just a thought that perhaps the normal people who are normally in the know aren’t and until the new management structure sorts out who can be trusted or who will leak information then we may not hear anything, and anything else we do hear will be guesses and speculations. Mind you I could be completely wrong and I’m certainly not in the know.
I've also copied a pasted this post onto the transfer thread as it applies to both.
Some people were getting ready to storm the EFL (or at least write a strongly worded email to them) as the takeover had been "blocked" a few days ago.
In reality, it was getting done, just not instantly.
Same applies to management contracts. Offers will be made and counter offers made in reply. Eventually it will be agreed. It's a negotiation.
And it has been suggested, by Airman, that the "strange idea" was regarding Bowyer's deal.
Same applies to players. We may have made multiple bids but we have to negotiate with both the other clubs and the individual players/agents who will both be looking around to get the best deal possible. Other clubs might be after the same players. Toulouse, for example, might be waiting to see what Forest offer compared to us for Bostock. Does he even want to move to Charlton? Does Bowyer even want him.
It's all happening, Gallen will be working flat out, no doubt, in deals we haven't even heard about but there are lots of details to be sorted, lots of people need to agree, it takes time.
I don't see the benefit of leaking targets, especially in our position.. that usually comes from agents or people at the club with loose lips. Better off just getting deals done and then announcing them.

To be completely honest, I think reserve championship or league one players are Bowyers choices, here is why - Hungry, will want to prove themselves at a higher level and most importantly will fight for our club.
He isn't going to spend 5m on some established championship player if he knows his not going to get %100 from them.
If Bowyer feels that a portsmouth winger who has the desire and works hard for the team can step up and is the right player for us, then I'm %100 behind that signing.

In SG, LB, JJ and team we trust.
PWR (in case somebody else has already made the point). Charlton, Bowyer, the fans don’t want to or can’t bring in expensive players for the simple reason that LB has built a squad of very decent players that have a fantastic team spirit. As soon as you start to bring in big money players it sends out a message to the rest of the team that they are now surplus to requirements. Bowyer and Gallen have proven that there are clearly plenty of decent players out there that we can bring in for little or sensible money who will buy into the existing team spirit and reap the financial rewards that come with earning success on the pitch.

Thanks for your response, I would argue my post is far from the most doom and gloom post made on this thread in ages, I don't even think it makes the short list for that award.
I fully understand footballers can be good that you or I wouldn't have heard of, I haven't wrote him off. It just doesn't strike me as an ambitious signing, it's one I would have expected under Roland.
Basically I'm not sitting here sweating or losing sleep over it, just sharing my thoughts that if a week from now things are looking similar then I will start to worry a bit. We might not stay up with a couple of players signed and our returning players. It's too big a gamble and sets us back a year which would possibly see the exit of potential long term players like Lockyer and Phillips.

Bloody hell. You must think they have a magic wand as well as a magic flying carpet.
1 whole working day they have been in charge, yes 1 whole working day.

I agree with this, focus on the short term initially whilst remaining aware of the longer term ideas. The bloke at Portsmouth Ronan Curtis looks the right type at the moment.

Just on that point, I think bringing in big money players can also have the opposite effect to that on the rest of the team. If existing players have a problem with big names or better players coming into a squad, then I think the probem lays with them and their attitude. I think it also means a teams ability to improve is hampered by the fact the manager can only work with the players he's got, or worse
NB. The opinion above is not relating to Charlton, just that point in general.
Oh ffs! Shut the thread. We’ve gone from arguing over who & when to now arguing over how & why? Its done. He’s gone. Start another thread about what you think about the new owners & what little they’ve done in the day they’ve had. Jaysus!
I personally think it's understandable that many Charlton folk are worried about our championship status when our points total over the last 15 games would see us 24th. Nothing to do with the size of testicles but all to do with our worse injury crisis since we became a Professional football club.
When we are putting out sides with youngsters who wouldn't have been in a 18 man squad in League 1; Houston we have a problem.
As we need to finish 21st or above its doable but not if we lose our Talismanic striker from the last 18 months and Bonne misses too many games till the end of season.
Curbishley and Murray (hero not a zero) couldn't stop our relegation because of Clive Mendonca's bad back the season after our first win in playoff final against Sunderland.
Early days in this window, but surely now the Roland list is binned and an emergency list is used to cope with the reality of our present situation.
