A few weeks ago when we were losing, he said "It's always been about getting through December." Meaning the squad needed a lot of work. Now suddenly it's all looking rosy? He's a "talker". Doesn't mean half of what he says and doesn't know about the other half.
"And hopefully increased the excitement " Yep selling one of the best prospects in England and bringing in a young punt(sp?) is hopefully gonna work . Sometimes it's best to keep words to a minimum and you have less chance of talking shit ain't that right Katrien. His positivity was definitely infectious when he first arrived and I've always been keen on his enthusiasm even when he was at MK but now he's at close hand it's all a bit too try hard to me . KR I'll love you if you get the results (especially Saturday) actions speak louder than words .
So Lookman gone for a large sum of money, his replacement is Joe Aribo Fox sold to Sheffield Wednesday, well according to many on this site he was not good enough play for us so is it that bad we got money for him. Foley hard working but not exceptional so his contract not renewed. If we have a criticism it as usual the owner will not invest in a large enough squad and so injuries have a big impact on team performance lets hope we do get a few more players in.
Why is bringing down the average age such a great achievement? Yes, the midfield is slow but those players haven't left. Surely, age brings experience in what is already a young squad.
What has he said wrong? Reduced the age of the team, true (you've conveniently left out Foley from your post). Increased the energy, probably true, Fox had as much pace as a 65 year old smoking 40 a day. Who knows whether his last point comes true but let's hope so.
There seems to be a large contingent that are unwilling to give him a chance. Whether that's down to being a regime appointment, an outspoken young manager, a scouser or a mixture of all of these I'm not sure. He seems to be sure of what he wants and is slowly going about it, the players (both current and new) are saying positive things about him and the Millwall result aside the performances seem to be picking up from Slade's dirge. Give the guy a chance FFS.
what he said.
seems with a lot of people, he could say absolutely anything and be tore a new one
Wow, there are either a lot of negatives about Robinson or a grumpy lot of people on here. Sometimes it's not all about the crappy owners that we have, supporting the team, not the regime. I think people are confusing that a little now.
I'm yet to make up my mind about him, I didn't like him at MK Dons, but you tend to grow to like him better when he's your manager.
Let's look at the positives and we can have a more balanced view..
You can clearly see, whether it's out of genuinely caring or to make himself look like he does, he is trying to bring different aspects of the football club together. Name one other manager since Powell who would go out their way to speak to the Women's team and take their daughter to a game. That's just one example.
His statement of, "it was always about getting through December" - I believe he meant that in the sense of, the squad needs some additions, some players who can pass the ball, play the way I want to play, not the defensive and only 442 formation that was played before. I also believe that he meant come January time, not only would we have new signings but he has recently said the best signings are the ones who are coming back. This is what I thought he meant, getting through a rough period and we will have our injured players back around the same time, Solly, Holmes, Rudd etc.
I am sure there are more, but I think people need to look at things more balanced, instead of focusing only on the negatives.
We all knew Lookman was going, most people on here don't rate Fox, what's he meant to say once they're gone? - "Oh the squad has lost a lot of quality so it's going to be really hard to achieve what we want to this season" that's not going to bring confidence to the team nor is it going to attract players that we are trying to sign.
The only thing he can do is get the results, last Monday was a good one, and I hope he really can build on that, starting on Saturday.
He is just not a typical Charlton manager for me. I wish you success Karl and I hope some of that success is with us though I doubt you will be here long enough to have much of a chance. I just wish you would shut the fuck up sometimes.
Exactly what is a typical Charlton manager.....one that lasts no more than a few months I assume?
Nowadays yes. Back in the day when we were a well run club I just don't think KR would have got the job. For me he is just not Charlton material.
We let Kevin Foley go! He is in his 30's and replaced him with Forster Caskey 23!
JFC was not a replacement for Foley. He was the much needed extra CM the squad has been begging for. Foley was the utility player that every squad needs but his best position was RB. He still needs to be replaced in my opinion.
One of our weaknesses was when Foley was pushed into midfield where he was ineffective. He always looked ok at right back, but using him as utility player wasn't really fair on him.
Every team needs a Foley. Can act as cover in 3 or 4 positions. Similar to what Andy Hughes done under Powell. His contract should've been extended to the end of the season - unless we are replacing him.
Robinson's obviously been told to try and communicate with the customers more and he's doing it... but a lot of what he says can be counter productive. For example his explanation on his team selections before kick off. It's pointless when we lose. He's trying though which is more than some of the men he's followed.
I'm all for utility players, they are a great addition to the squad and Curbishley in particular used them very well. Foley however was not a good utility player as he only had decent games at full back in my opinion. As said above, he was very weak in midfield.
We are starting to get to a stage now where Robinson will have to back up his talking with results. He is bringing in his own players which is what he has been banging on about for weeks, so now it's about picking up the points, starting with Millwall.
Since Robinson joined the only thing that's increased is the amount of brainless yapping. Just shut up and win.
18 likes? Really? Part of the manager's job is to get a buzz going around a club. It's a really important part of the job. This was one area where Russell Slade failed in my opinion. Let the manager get on with it, rather than calling him brainless and telling him to shut up. Jimmy Seed would have had your guts for garters if you'd said that to him! And I'm sure there were those back in the day who didn't appreciate this flash Harry geordie coming to London and bringing his northern attitudes and funny accent with him. We're beginning to look a bit brighter on the pitch, so isn't that a good sign? If Roland fucks him about over transfer dealings what do you want him to do, walk out on us? And remember, Jimmy Seed hardly bought his way to the top did he!
At the moment we have a far weaker squad than when the transfer window opened. What KR is saying does not fill me with confidence that that is going to change by the end of the month. I like his enthusiasm but that only gets you so far. I'd like to see less talk and more action. At the moment it just feels like any other transfer window under Roland, a chance to bring in some money.
Lookman had stopped being a squad member due to ilness, so it's actually kinda stronger than the last 2

Funny, 2 weeks ago foley was shit.... no he's gone we miss him.
Moan moan moan half the people on here moaning don't even go anymore.
Its been dross and so has the 1st 3 games under KR
But against Bristol Rovers (2nd half and yes it was only Rovers) was the best I have seen from a Charlton side in terms of tempo and pressuring for donkeys years a real go get em.
If he produces more of this I can only see positives.
Give him a chance we write everybody off or build up far to quickly
I think people are giving him a chance, but the video of him talking about Tony Watt was two minutes of my life that I'll never get back, or figure out; and this 'bums off seats' stuff and average age piece... nonsense.
For me - he can say what he wants, he's not upsetting anyone with all the hot air, all I want is for him to win games/get us playing well. He's probably just about operating 'in the black' after the Bristol Rovers game - which as a fan is fairly generous after getting our pants pulled down at the New Den again. Let's see how we get on in Jan - big month for us with some tough fixtures.
I think it's okay to find him irritating, and to whine about it, as long as it's kept in perspective.
I'd give it just a few more months before drawing even the vaguest of parallels between Jimmy Seed and our Karl.
Absolutely no reason why I shouldn't. That's what forums are about. I'm hardly claiming he's the next Jimmy Seed am I. I believe in giving people a chance. If he loses theee of the next four games and gets sacked, well at least he tried to stir things up a bit.
Edit: apology to @Weegie Addick : I think I took your post the wrong way. And actually, I agree with what you're saying, although I wasn't trying to compare Robinson and my granddad, more than to say that there may have been a bit of early 'anti' about both of them.
We may argue as to if Foley was a better RB than MF, but MF is where he predominantly played for us. I also think that JJ is unlikely to start again and rarely be even on the bench. Given the size of our 1st team coaching staff, he may even go.
I conclude that our midfield will definitely be younger and better which would make him right, and we have Holmes back and Watt back.
I think that the OP highlights the lack of trust with the regimes and anyone who take the reigns as (alleged) manager. It doesn't matter what the current manager says at the moment, the chasm that exists between the fans and the club management/ownership (notice I didnt say team) is a wound that can only be healed when the current regime leaves. Put simply the majority of fans do not trust what is said by the SMT.
It's easy to criticise but he's got an impossible job trying to keep onside with disrespected fans, disinterested players, a disingenuous, disgraced CEO and disconnected, senile owner.
Water of a ducks back as far as I'm concerned, it's outcomes that matter. PR has to be seen for what it is, taking it all too seriously is bad for your mental health.

5 points off 6th place
7 points minimum i would suggest
How I miss Curbs' reassuring cliches. P'raps, I'm the manager it stops with me, a premiership sides's gonna win it why not us? Etc, etc.
