The most distressing thing was that it also looked like poor management in a football sense from Russell Slade, and I had harboured hope with him around.
we are in serious shit , mediocre players , shit board who honestly don't give a fuck , the CEO would have been sacked at any other firm in the world , shit player telling fans to fuck off if they don't like it , yes Johnson that is you and how the fuck can you be payed for playing the game when let's face it you are nicking a living , we are going one way very quickly down and for me that's exactly wot the regime want .
Shocked when I saw the team that Jackson was on the left. That only really worked in League One, 5 years ago, when he had a quick wing back in Wiggins behind him who could run with the ball.
Jackson's now almost 34 and the left back behind him in Fox has similar weaknesses - lack of pace and can't/won't run with the ball.
From what I've read Holmes isn't particularly quick either.
Was there a good reason for not starting Lookman on the left? Perhaps that would leave the midfield slightly weaker defensively but that's got to be better than having no pace and few attacking threats in the team?
I know Slade wants leaders on the pitch but it's no good filling the midfield with 30+ year olds if none of them can either create, score, carry the ball or add little attacking movement off the ball.
We got by with a lack of pace in midfield when we won the title by having Wagstaff's energy in there (we looked poor when Green, Stephens, Hollands and Jackson played as a four), Wiggins attacking threat and a Championship quality player in Yann.
With Harriott going we probably need a winger, a winger/striker and a target man. Ideally a creative or at least energetic box to box CM.
Not confident we'll get that many and wouldn't be surprised if one or two more are sold.
Came home and read the match thread from the beginning, sound OK if not inspiring, then quite good for a brief period at the start of the second half. Almost got excited and hopeful. Shows how stupid I am. What a disgrace. Even worse with the scum being top. #RolandOut

Just summing up every Charlton fan's thoughts there. Good post.
To only use Lookman on 68 when the shakers had already made a double sub on 57 smacks of a) indecision (sorry, stating obvious) & b) lack of confidence in the bench. Great turnout with > 1,000 in tow but for the time being have to bite the bottom lip especially the valley faithful already bought into 2016/17.
That was genuinely awful. I think we gave Slade a lot of slack because he's English, has limited tooks and is working for nutters and I won't write him off after one game but we need to see a big improvement in tactical nous over the next 45 league matches.
Very poor today from start to finish. A decent shot from Ajose and Holmes is not enough to deserve anything over 90mins. Didn't think much of Bury but they clearly know how to scrap at this level. Good day out, one of best atmospheres in a long time. People may say it's only the first game, give it time but I saw nothing out there to warrant any signs of optimism.
Waited around after the game too with a few others by the club shop right next to the team coach. Let's just say I didn't get the feeling the mood within the camp was as great as Slade makes out. Not fair to name names but a few interesting comments from the players too.
Shame we had to leave before Johnson arrived. That man is a disgraceful to football.
Can we tempt you to share the comments made?
No but I should highlight Morgan Fox as the only player to personally thank us for our support and apologise for the performance today. He seemed gutted whereas the other 7-8 didn't seem too bothered.
He gets a lot of stick on here but I personally thought he had a steady game and sent over a top class cross in the second half that Novak couldn't quite reach.
There aren't many positives at the minute but it gives me slight comfort that the likes of him and Solly still represent our club.

We saw Solly outside the ground as he got on the coach and he did say sorry (Solly?) but he seemed genuinely perplexed which worries me more.
Slade's not hit the ground running and he must cobble results in both the EFL and next Saturday to justify the generous billing afforded to date. Inevitable player movement continue right to the deadline but we need to offload those surplus to requirements. At least we've time to get organised for the gills and SE16 lot.
Caught out at corners again. It's as predictable as defeat by Millwall. Without Solly and Holmes, who stood head and shoulders above everyone else out there today, we would have been utterly dire. The lack of pace in midfield is clearly a major problem so why Lookman only played a quarter of the match is a complete mystery. It's scary that a succession of our managers, including now Slade, who is well-versed in the English lower league game, cannot see what is obvious to all of us "amateurs". We are right about Lookman. With him on one side and Holmes on the other (a creative CM would help as well) we might stand a chance of getting the ball to the forwards. As it is, Ajose and Novak without support are struggling.
A transfer will surely be struck for Lookman as the money needed to fund acquisitions and no doubt current expenditure. AL will think it odd should he be stuck in SE7 that even CH now playing at a higher level. If AL doesn't start against the cobblers then it will be clear as mud that a deal is in the offing.

There must be plenty of suitors for one of the brightest prospects with 6 chumpship goals already binned. If he stays great till year end great but there are at least 23 clubs with money to burn. Slade if told to use the clubs best asset sparingly in advance of window closing must comply.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I am worried that Slade as a coach isn't up to much.

This might be feasible if we had a squad large enough to warrant use of the word "surplus".
Unfortunately, what we have is a limited squad, already pared down to the bone. We need to get in players who can do what needs to be done (including being faster than me); we do not have the luxury of sufficient quality and numbers to have anything resembling a surplus. It is the regime way to have some decent players brought in each summer, while off-loading much of the previous season's better performers, so that we might have a half-way decent first team, but no strength in depth. They've done it every summer, and there's no evidence that they've learned anything.
Or, alternatively, in the abbreviated version, we're fucked.
In fairness, Bury aren't a bad side. I would have taken a draw at the start of the game. We did have chances, we played some good balls accross the goal, but no one was on the end of them. Baffled as to why we threw Pearce in so early, should have kept Konsa in there alongside Johnson. We concede our first goal of the season, and immediately it's all doom and gloom, we still have a long way to go. We shouldn't be in League 1, but we are, and as annoying as it is, considering the destruction cause by Roland, we do need to be realistic. Top 6, would be a good finish this season.
We still have injuries eg Bauer, Kashi, no doubt others. We can't offload them until their fit thus stuck till January. Programme tells you we've had too many on the books when compared to the opposition. I preume that is down to the academy. Slade knows the pressure on from all sides even from what's left of the east stand. Need to be top 6 after 6. Scarey as there doesn't appear to be any form of income stream for the bottom half in the EFL.
Back in May the club released a statement saying that they had learnt from their mistakes & were going to build a squad to compete & hopefully get out of this division...........starting off by recruiting a British manger & then players who knew what it takes.
3 months have passed & if what we put out today is the answer then we have a struggle not to go down to league 2. I was not there so cant comment about the performance or attitude of players & manager , but it seems what we have brought in so far is less than useless.
I final thought. We are currently running around trying to bring in more numpty strikers who can score, when we have 3 already on the books currently out on loan.

A top 6 finish would currently would be a miracle.
Spent day on a beach at 3000ft then avoided match thread sat eating the worlds largest burger. Cheese, egg, ham, turkey steak, bacon, beef burger, tuna (yes tuna) with fries and salad. All for 5 Euro's. The cocktail stick holding it together was like a garden cane. Gotta love Spain.
As for my beloved Addicks, now feel very deflated after reading entire match thread. Waffle eating twats out. I'd have been there today of at home so maybe there is a god. Feel depressed for those that travelled today. Shame about handbags afterwards. It's not the Charlton way to deal with a humiliation. Sort it out Slade!
Intrigued to find more out about your beach at 3000ft! Surely a beach is at sea level?
