Fucking miserable. No attempts on goal. No team spirit, nothing. The whole thing from top to bottom is screwed. I've see some shit performances in my time, but that was right up there.
Absolutely disgraceful performance. Total and utter shit. Every single one of them can fuck off. Created nothing. The game was played in our half and we did not threaten once. I cannot begin to deacribe how bad that was. Evey player was a disgrace to the shirt. The fans fighting in the street behind the main stand showed more appetite than any of those tossers. Yes I'm pissed, but I am utterly fuming.
Gutting re-introduction to the third tier. Got well and truly dragged into a League One encounter and didn't have the fight for it. Pretty much set up to hope fate allows us to open the scoring and then hang onto a 1-0 from there. Won't lie - was impressed by how we set up off the ball but offered nothing when we had it. Back line has potential but midfield is so weak and our two starting strikers, while working hard, were playing percentages and waiting for errors.
Aside from all the RD/KM context (and my Twitter has long made clear my feelings on that), it was just particularly bitter to lose deservedly to a very basic side who put more effort into shouting for every piece of contact to be given as a free-kick in their favour - with a fanbase to match - especially when it's still easy to recall how Powell and co were able to rise above so many teams like that five years ago.
Charlton have lost a lot quality in the squad, lack creativity & pace in the midfield, and out wide, have had a slow shambolic pre season. Gaping holes in the squad & still many players short. The Bury result should not be a surprise. No club has a automatic right to succeed. It is doing the right thing & having a good football strategy.
A terrible slow midfield lacking in creativity. A subs bench full of youngsters. One shot on target the whole game. Roger Johnson telling the away supporters to feck off, the icing on the cake.
23rd position, lowest league position in Charlton's history (admittedly only first game). This is entirely as a result the way Meire & Duchatelet are running the club. Charlton as a club will not rise again until Duchatlet sells up & people like Meire are no where near the club. Roll on that day.
I can only presume that the two centre midfielders were purposely a protest by Slade, cos they are fucking shit. JJ basically took it upon himself to tuck inside and do their job after 30 minutes. Lookman needs to start because he's the shining light in a world of pony. Holmes looks decent and Pearce will be a very good signing. The rest I don't wanna write off early but it was barely conference standard.
So glad we brought in a British manager to sort the team out! Give them a bit of fight and spirit, and get them "playing for the shirt again!"
I'm going off of the commentary, but from the sounds of things and reading from those who were there this was entirely predictable, down to the team selection. Starting with Crofts and Foley in central midfield and JJ on the left is absolutely ridiculous. I said it after every game in pre-season and will say it again, I don't think we have an attacking strategy other than lump it long. There is very little creativity in the team, none when Lookman isn't on the pitch.
Our squad is far from complete, but Slade has had 9 of those players for most, if not all, of pre-season. Crofts, Holmes, Jackson, and Foley have played together plenty in pre-season, so I don't think we can just chalk it up to new players.
Russell Slade has overseen some good transfers, is clearly fighting a losing battle to get the club to spend, and can say all the right things in pressers. But at the end of the day, I haven't seen or heard anything that indicates he's a coach good enough to get us promoted. Still early doors obviously, and I would love to be wrong.
Predictable we would struggle for cohesion with 7 debuts from the start.
Novak clearly not match fit. That affected ajose as he got no service.
Midfield lacks pace
I'm running out of nice things to say about Fox
That said - both goals were avoidable. Stupid penno and a foul for the 2nd but that's just excuses - officials were shocking both ways.
All in all I've had a lovely day with my son and friends and the football is just a minor annoyance. We'll be more cohesive in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully
how can we have all those old men in midfield and lookman on the bench does not make seance to me if people think ajose will score 25 goals this season they must be mad he will be lucky to get 7
@Valley11 no I don't mean that. I meant what happened outside. Even if the ball had gone back in to play, what would we have done with it? - the same as we did for 89 mins?
It was bit of an embarrassment outside, but was more so on the pitch

a creative midfielder (Tony Watt ) and a couple of wingers (Hariott & JBG) would fit the bill nicely.
I don't think we had a shot on target today.
