Richard Cawley @RichCawleySLP 2m2 minutes ago Here is Solly. And LouisMend's legs.
I was more worried about the contents of the green box - took me a while to work out that one of its contents was a 'Maximum Security Tin". At first I thought the obscured word was sex and dreaded to think what was inside it.
Shame if Jacko's legs are gone, I'm hoping he's just not match sharp yet. We'll need his character around the place this season for sure.
On Slade that may be his style, although it does sound like he's frustrated with his lot...... In any walk of life, managing people and getting the best from them is not about treating them all the same. It's horses for courses, some respond to a cuddle, others being shouted at etc.
Not much more than a week to go, Ive a feeling the 1st few games are going to be very difficult. If they don't start on the right foot it will become very hard very quickly in league 1......
I'm optimistic, but then I always have been at the start of a season .....
Have only seen the live stream of the Anzi game but wondering how bad RoJo can be if he has been the only constant in all these clean sheets?
I'm certainly not his greatest fan, but to be fair to him apart from one slip he had a pretty good game. He's not elegant to watch of course but he won most of his headers and got stuck in and Ipswich have some tricky customers up front.
I have to say though, I watched Konsa on Saturday at RB where he did ok, but tonight at CH he was superb especially in the first half. We may well have produced another Joe Gomez in this lad!
Don't get too excited about Konsa. If he has the potential you suggest, squirrel face will sell him at Christmas for £250,000.
Other League One Friendly results from last night...
- Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Burnley (Pope was left on the Bench with Heaton / Robinson playing, still no JBG) - Brentford 0-1 Peterborough United - Chesterfield 1-2 Derby County - Dover Athletic 2-0 Millwall - Halifax Town 2-0 Sheffield United - Macclesfield Town 2-0 Rochdale - Milton Keynes Dons 1-3 Everton - Northampton Town 2-1 Wolves - Norwich City 3-0 Coventry City - Notts County 3-2 Walsall - Oldham Athletic 0-1 Wigan Athletic - Oxford United 0-4 Brighton & Hove Albion - Sabadell 3-0 Bristol Rovers - Scunthorpe United 2-1 Rotherham United - Southend United 0-2 Newcastle United - Swindon Town 1-2 Reading
I also heard that Tex was off and that a goalkeeper 'hadn't shown up'. I firstly attributed that to Moore, but the absence of Mitov yesterday threw a spanner in my assumption.

If we'd lost 2-0 to Halifax, some people on here would be demanding Slade be sacked.

Only Scunthorpe / Peterborough won matches last night, both were against higher opposition whilst Millwall / Walsall / Rochdale / Sheffield United all lost to lower league opposition... And what does this tell you, and what fans should know by now?

I was in Halifax last weekend .. the football team is the new pride of the town .. they won a pot at Wembley last season (beating Grimsby) .. don't underestimate the Shaymen (:>)
So we're trying to sign Kevin Foley and hope the Goalkeeper will be here by the end of the week.
This is the ultimate line for me...
But there’s no need to panic because we don’t want to get players who are not the right fit for the football club.
For the last few years panicking is exactly what we've been doing by signing any old Midfielder / Striker etc. so its good to see that Slade isnt rushing into buying someone just for the sake of it and then being unable to get them off the wage bill if they're not right
I enjoyed last night. Good to be back at the Valley.
Phillips - Excellent. Not afraid to come out of his box. Extremely confident on the ball and you could see players didnt hesitate to play it back to him because they trusted his first touch and subsequent distribution. Some ill-advised rollouts to Croft though when he had a man up his snatch. Rumours are his wages are ridiculously low - sort that immediately as he's our new 2nd choice goalie if Rudd is brought in. Solly - standard Solly RoJo - One slip aside he did alright. The problem is he is shocking on his left hand side and people will exploit that. Konsa - Probably my MOM. So calm and assured on the ball and Pittman and McGoldrick are no mugs either. Fox - Left his man twice (2) late on and we were lucky not to concede. First time the guy tried to head it with his ear and the second called for a great save from Dillon.
Holmes - Small but he is going to be a fan favourite I think. Lots of energy, no shortage of skill. Could be like Garry Nelson Crofts & Foley - Pretty similar. A bit like Matt Holland in that they were solid if not spectacular. Crofts is the better player imo but Foley when he dropped to right back showed a bit of versatility that might be needed and useful. Both useful additions. Jacko - Looks more like a "coach" than ever. Way off the pace. Harriott - Seems to have slowed his feet down a bit and gone back to basics a bit. If he can now get the end product he'll be an asset. I think Slade likes him and maybe that's reflected in his confidence.
Ajose - He worries me because fans won't tolerate performances like last night. He is never going to operate as a lone striker and needs someone up there with him. Doesn't drop deep to get the ball, jumps like Churchinho. He may be a fox in the box but with no service he'll be ruined by November.
Hanlon busied himself when he came on. lots of youthful exhuberance Muldoon - I really want him to be like Scott Parker after his loan spell. Played more like Paul Bacon unfortunately.
All in all it was a decent run out. We have clearly tightened up at the back as we looked much better when defending set pieces. Absolutely nothing going forward but I think the aim was to work on defensive work which has been so sadly lacking in the last 12 months.
Ipswich have had a shocker in pre season and, on last nights showing, might have a tough season ahead.
On the rumours front I too heard Teixeira could be off to pastures new.

google tells me that a Kevin Foley is a McDonalds franchisee in Norwich .. perhaps he'll do a discount for the boyos .. what's not to like about Foley K. ? and admittedly I type this having not seen him play for us .. an English born Irish international, a versatile player, 31 so still got a few years left in the legs, looks like Kinsella, very experienced at a good level (several years with Wolves) and seems like a good pro .. now tell me fans, what's wrong with that cv ? (are y'all gonna tell me he's dogs*** and useless etc etc ?)
For me its the news we've tightened up at the back that pleases me more than the fact we're beating teams 4-0 etc.
Had we not lost 5-0 / 6-0 / 3-0 god knows how many times our confidence might have been a bit better and we might have be able to build on things knowing that we could attack knowing that the back five can work as a unit
For me the most exciting news (excluding the goal nets naturally) was that Katy turned up with a suitcase. Was she coming from or going to an exciting conference? or maybe just a bit of duty free retail therapy.
As long as no one else leaves. I think we only need 4 more players. Goalkeeper Centre half 2 central mid Not that far away really, of course the situation changes dramatically if more players leave

Definitely need at least one striker/attacker. We only had Ajose and a couple of kids last night.
Thanks for the detailed report on Slade @sam3110. Bit worrying that he feels the need to coach/ instruct so specifically during a match -suggests players struggling to listen and learn in training, doesn't it? Or again symptomatic of the lack of time they have had together.
I did find it interesting just how much he talked them through the things he wanted done, and he wasn't afraid to lay into them if they weren't up to scratch, which is very different to "playing with a smile". I'm hoping it's just his way and they haven't had enough time together for him to drill his style into them yet, but he wasn't a happy bunny at all for a lot of it. I will be pitchside again on Saturday, hopefully he will have some praise to dish out instead!
Graeme Souness told me last month that players pay no attention at all to managers instructions on the touch line. And that all the shouting and advice is for the managers benefit (just to vent their frustration) or play up to the TV cameras/crowd.
Mind you he was talking about the top two divisions.....

Top Definition. snatch. see ****, that girl's got a nasty smelling snatch. "Yo Jeff, I lost my arm in your Grandma's snatch last night!

couldn't find the laundry basket so she improvised

I was pleased to see that the sofa hadn't been replaced.
Oh, and our stadium always looks beautiful on a summers evening in the pre-season (before the inevitable disappointment that is the league campaign begins).
So we're trying to sign Kevin Foley and hope the Goalkeeper will be here by the end of the week.

He would say that wouldn't he? We have little over a week until the start of the season and he is hoping to get 5 new signings before then. It doesnt matter who KM and RD chuck at him now, the message from the club will be that they were their targets all along and they are delighted they've signed (probably on loan, maybe recovering from injury...)
It's the same every year and to me, Slade is just slotting into the puppet show perfectly.
Still, at least he was happy with last night's game.
On a slightly different note, my parents went to the game last night. I got a text from my Dad telling me how upset he was looking around at the terrible attendance. Granted it is only a friendly, and is during the summer holidays, but I cant think of a time over the past 10-15 years that a pre season friendly has attracted such a diabolical attendance?

They're at the same level of the pyramid as Welling!
I also heard that Tex was off and that a goalkeeper 'hadn't shown up'. I firstly attributed that to Moore, but the absence of Mitov yesterday threw a spanner in my assumption.
Mitov was in the West Stand so unless it means he turned up late, the reference was not to him.

Ademola Lookman wants to have a productive season at Charlton, according to Addicks manager Russell Slade.
