Ha, ha. Just had a response from my wife's nephew who is an Oxford fan. Yes, I know, it's one of those "my [insert name of Azerbaijan third division] supporting pal says..." but this is cut and paste from his text:
"Really? Not much of a step up for him, given your and Northampton's respective positions.
As a human being, he's an absolute nob. Chippy, self-regarding and petulant; he stormed out of Oxford straight after a game without even saying goodbye to the players or chairman.
As a coach, he's good as long as he has a chairman who'll indulge his predilection for bringing in loan signings at the drop of a hat. You'll do well with him, but be braced for some pretty agricultural football."
Sounds like him and Roly will get on like a châteaux on fire.
Shocker, fan digs out an ex manager - didn't see that one coming.
I don't think Wilder is coming to us. If he was surely it would have been announced by now.
Still very early.
They'll probably leave it till a Press Conference can happen around 1pm on Weds / Thurs, cant see talks having been completed for it to be announced that quickly etc.
Although when it does get announced expect a advert about Season Tickets to follow

The club was too embarrassed to give the last 2 managerial appointments a press conference.

No point giving Riga one as all we'd have got from him would have been: Hi, its me again
Same when Karel Fraeye comes back, there wont be one because all we'll hear is: Oh god its him again

Does he not know that the emergency loan system is being scrapped? No loan signings at the drop of a hat anymore!
Do not let your hatred of the present regime cloud your judgment.
I will expect Chris Wilder will be our next Manager
Quoting from a fan on Northampton Fan Forum (Hotel End)
“Not total conjecture, but say he is on 75 grand now, Charlton will be offering 3 times that - given their size and despite the mess they are in they will still be shorter odds to go up than us so he has a good chance to enhance his reputation (and earn 200 grand) - if it doesn't work out he will get a year’s money and given the mess they are in his reputation will not massively suffer - its equal to 3 years here, and do you really think the love in here will last that long unless he delivers continued success?”
This lad must be psychic, he expressed my opinion what I thinking.
My view his current annual salary would be 80 to 90 grand, he could request a 3 year contract on 240 grand , with one year annual salary if sacked (stopping him from slagging off the club)
Why should Charlton be willing to pay these terms (easy?)
1. Charlton is desperate condition
2 The fans are revolting (should I say in revolt)
3. If 10,000 fans stop renewing their season tickets the club will lose at least £300,000
4. The squad is full of inadequate players a great deal of foreign mercenaries (who will jump ship as they have no loyalty to the club)

What we need a decent manager
Been keeping an eye on that forum. There is a thread about Wilder's replacement. One deluded poster suggested that Chris Powell wouldn't be a good fit for them and "we could do a lot better than Powell"...or words to that effect. Errrr..... Sorry, but no you couldn't.
I suspect he is on a lot more like £50k and we will offer him nearer to £100k, but the principle still applies.
Besides Northampton could well go down again and with the financial problems they've had there is not, necessarily, much chance that they will come back up again if they go down this season.
I also happen to think that RD and KM will manage (more by luck than judgement) to get us promoted this season so Wilder will have a promotion from League One on his CV and might be allowed to hang around to manage us in the Championship.
There are lots of good reasons for him to join us and lots of reasons as to why he might regret it for the rest of his life if he doesn't. His stock is high right now. If Northampton do go down he might never be offered another job like this one again.
It's the same logic as Parker going to Chelsea, where he failed to make it or Poyet going to West Ham where he is well on the way to failing to make it. Just because it doesn't work out doesn't mean that the decision to go in the first place was wrong, ironically.

I note what you have said here, but there is scant evidence based on what has happened so far to think this, especially as you are calling on the Gods of Football to deliver some luck. The way our club is run, does it even deserve any luck?
Everyone else in the ground max £225 for a season ticket, concessions for age and disability extended.
KM taken improved role as CEO of a new holding company which will own all the shares of the Roland group of football conpanies but will have no operational duties of any sort. Well done Katrien.
Lennie Lawrence refuses to take on a role as director of football but agrees to lead the scouting team Along with newly confirmed Manager, Chris Wilder, Alan Knill, Johnnie Jackson and Chris Solly, the last two are offered long term scouting/coaching contracts.
A new CEO is appointed (applications being analysed) who after a brief review decides to bring in established talent in the COO, head of comms, head of commercial, head of security head of ticketing roles, some are already vacant and others made vacant. Previous employees are contacted and have to decide whether to take the position.
NOTHING has happened at all yet and someone is already suggesting that RD and KM will get us back up next season. Have you learned nothing from the last two years?
Please remember we are where we are today after 30 months of belligerent mismanagement.
Whether the current initiative is as a result of embracing a sustainable change of direction is a) open to debate b) likely to remain unproven for a considerable period. As it stands the Wilder approach could be no more than a grudging acknowledgement of a failed process or the equivalent of throwing a starving man a stale crust.
Whether this executive has truly embraced the need for change and a "Wilder type" appointment is part and parcel of a root and branch change of management then there is considerably more to be done.
You might consider the thoughts of Messrs Powell, Riga, Peeters, Luzon, (Fraeye was always an irrelevance) and Riga again if this regime has indeed had a road to Damascus moment.
You must also consider whether this initiative has been forced because quite simply this executive, to stop our slide into oblivion, have literally nowhere else to go.
Having lost all credibility with supporters, with the industry and the media they are in desperate need of anyone's market credibility simply to have any ability to trade. They individually lack a gram of the market knowledge to make any sane attempt to even start to unravel the problems they have created across the business.
Every managerial/head coach appointment is a risk for all parties.
If Wilder is the right man then he will have done/ do more to ensure his success in the past/ next 24/48hrs in laying down the rules of operation across all aspects of the club before he even enters his office.
Intrinsic to that process will be the need to manage the recruitment process in all aspects of negotiation. At which point Wilder will be only part of the solution. Other fundamental change is needed and needed now.
In truth there is little more any prospective manager can do. There is always some leap of faith involved
Whether based on their track record to this point he and indeed we can trust this regime will honour its part of any such arrangement is quite another matter.
I urge those hoping/ wishing/ desperate to hang onto any crumb of comfort to wait to let us see some clear actions in support of a fully viable sustainable football squad worthy of the club we have supported over the decades.
No one should underestimate the damage that has been done to the fabric of the club by the ignorance, arrogance and sheer bloody incompetence of this regime. A few sticking plasters here and there will achieve nothing. Major surgery is required.
The questions concerning the ability, competence, understanding and ambitions of the "surgeon at the helm" to effect the changes needed must and will rightly long remain. As such there is no compelling reason to change any call for the departure of the man who has put us in this mess in the first place.
He's cheap, British, and I assume gets the best out of players, and knows an English bargain I expect too, so all up Duche's street with some elements reflecting the current climate. I suspect Muzza's input there.
In another era we might welcome it and not be so sceptical but there's been to much water under the bridge, too many lies and broken promises, and too many other indicators of more of the same.
Clearly this has broken down. He has been given permission to talk to the club but Daisy doesn't speak to anyone any more, so he's still in reception waiting for her.

Chris Powell... Now he was a Rookie Manager!!
Somewhere lurking down in the CL archive, and not that deep down, is a thread called "Powell's football is awful"
