No expecting to see much pretty football under him , and suspect that it may be some time before we see the same quality that we did in the first half against Burnley. However he may be successful in delivering the results to get us up and that will do for me.
We are told we are financial safe so a fire sale not needed.
Who told you that? Approx £50m in debt and losing £1m a month......
And? It is friendly debt so we do not have banks or Revenue and Customs pushing for payments so we are financially safe. Therefore we do not have to have a fire sale, we are free to sell or not and this puts us in a much better negotiating position if we do decide to sell.
If Wilder and Knill pitch up they will be appointments made by this regime. In that context, good chaps that they may be, how can they be cut any slack? Even though there are no games until July, for me there needs to be so much more between now and then for me to be relaxed about their appointments. In other situations giving new staff a chance is the right approach. It is nothing personal but they will have to impress big time every day from day one. I also believe Wilder is going to have to tread very carefully with regard to the fans. Wilder would do well to stick to the line that he has to earn the fans trust, not expect it.
If it happens it's the first step of many required. They must have offered quite a reward package.
I'm not convinced just because he's done well in league 2 and below means he'll be a success here. His first job will be to persuade players to join, that won't be an easy task and he'll need people like Jacko to help. That said he's clearly better caliber than at least Luzon & Peters and probably Riga. Is he better than Powell where we started this awful journey, probably not.
RD probably needs to put in an extra double figure millions to enable turnover to be high enough to enable the right level of salaries to be paid to players for us to do well, I just don't see that happening. This is an appointment of a man who's been successful in a tight budget.
Outside of that with the income levels as they are and with many not returning to their seat next year we aren't going to be challenging for the title like we did with SCP, play offs would be the best we could hope for.
I wish him luck if he takes on the poison challis, I so hope it works, only time will tell.
1st job in my opinion is to tell the players they ain't all going. Those that have had long term injuries owe us big time and none of them deserve to be able to leave just because they will be on reduced wages - they signed the bloody things and are partly to blame for our relegation. Not unreasonable to ask them to give us at least to January IMO.
You would expect us to be happy to reduce costs , but if Roland wants to get back in one year we need the quality. Any money made from transfers should be made available to the new manager and this should be in a statement from the club.
We are told we are financial safe so a fire sale not needed. Players that are to be sold need to go for good money as well - it is what Roland does!
Agree, however do you not get the feeling that players like Diarra and Kashi (despite how good they are) are not the type of player that he 1) knows or 2) wants ? - I get the feeling he's more of a typical English coach with running ,chasing and hoofing being the priority.

I've always favoured winning over pretty football. It's great that we played well for 45 mins against Burnley, but we lost 3-0, so didn't do us much good.

I wonder if any of our board, Duchatelet included have even been to a Northampton game this season or if they've just looked at a league table.
I'm inclined to believe that Lennie Lawrence had input into this. Maybe suggested two or three names and they either chose Wilder or spoke to all three and then chose Wilder because I can't seeing them coming up with this one of their own.
Why do I just get the feeling that this Wilder thing is going to be yet another whopping PR own goal by Duchatelet and a gift to CARD.
Wilder wants complete autonomy and will knock us back when Meire tells him the constraints of the job.
In any other period in our history a Northamton Town manager would run down the M1 to get a job at The Valley.
Egg on face yet again for our visionary and his minion.
I've said this from the start of the saga. Whilst I'm sure there are people within the club that want a British manager now, @Airman Brown alluded to this after Karel got the push, but RD will want final say on any manager coming in and I refuse to believe he will loosen his tight grasp on player transfers and the like.
The problem is, if Wilder does not agree terms, I'm sure he will not be coy about the reasons why, and the chances of getting a decent Brit will plummet further once it's all in the open. As a result, I still fully expect to see Vignjevic in post in the not so distant future. I hope I'm wrong.
I really hate how paranoid this regime has made me when discussing all things Charlton.

That's not the impression I get from those (few) that have watched NT this season.
Completely ambivalent about the prospect of this dour northern bastard being appointed.
Besides, I've never been part of the clamour for a British manager per se - what is important is a knowledge of these leagues and what is required to compete in them. -.
We hear that Neil Warnock applied for the vacant job at Charlton when Luzon was sacked.
I guess the club are hoping that Wilder is the lower league's Neil Warnock?
At least Wilder, 30 years in English pro football, will have his own extensive contacts within the game.
But it's all pointless unless a new manager/head coach, assistant, director of football, chief scout and new CEO can all work together as a team - and given complete autonomy by RD with the footballing side of things.
Rumour at work from a Northampton fan... Yep one of those,
He says he is in the know but I don't know how true that is...
He says the Wilder deal is pretty much wrapped up. It sounds like there is going to be a large chunk of spending money that will give us the biggest budget in League 1.
I'm not sure I believe Duchatelet would commit to that, or how these details would leak, but thought I'd share anyway.

Comments I read from Kelvin Thomas seem to suggest as much. I'm sure Thomas would know exactly how far down the road they are and when he was first approached etc. It seems certain that this didn't just all start yesterday as the press releases suggest.

Might also go some way to explaining Riga's resignation. If the Wilder approach first happened a while ago then they must have agreed to compensate Riga. If they didn't he will have a pretty good 'constructive dismissal' case.
Things from this thread people don't seem to have considered:
- Last time we were promoted from L1 it was under a manager who was in his first job. Club icon? Sure, but I reckon many more years' experience (no matter what level) in coaching and management can balance that out
- Who said anything about the football needing to be pretty? Effective is what I care about at a League One level. Winning football usually IS pretty football, to me anyway. Besides, I disagree - I think a lot of what we played under Curbs and SCP was good-looking. We have had the likes of Jensen, Parker, Di Canio, then in L1 Stephens, Yann, hell even the likes of JBG/Lookman/Harriott recently, whatever... Yeah.
- The board probably do want to get us back up, certainly next season, given the absolute haemorrhaging of money
- Wilder and Knill clearly have a definite footballing philosophy, and if they're given the chance to implement it and are smart enough to have the tactical nous to adapt it to a slightly different (better?) calibre of player, then we could potentially go far
I'd be fairly happy with this to be honest. Not with the board of course, but it's a step in the right direction nonetheless.
Could kick you lot down the stairs once a day for 4 years, then on a leap year not do so and give you a sweet, you'd be waxing lyrical about how lovely I am..

Nope, don't think we would somehow.
Think you'll find we just have a lot of Supporters of Charlton Athletic Football Team.
Not CAFC PLC.
We'd still call you nasty things behind your back, to your face and to the parents of your CEO.
one thing is that RD is not completely stupid. As a businessmen he must understand that his SMT, not him, have failed and for his experiment to get back on track the team must get back to the Championship and so CW and a temporary suspension of his football experiment.

Let's hope it's not just a temporary suspension. He doesn't really have much to experiment with now that he no longer owns Standard Liege.

No he won't.
I doubt there will ever be a manager under RD that clocks up 2 years service!

I can think of two....Ipswich (a) 0-2 and Derby (a) 2-1 (Leaburn chip over Shilton).
But what was the game he played under Lennie Lawrence?

The player farm can't work in league one and the academy category one status can't happen in league one either.
Our next manager will be the seventh appointment in Duchatelets short tenure.
The fans and club are at the lowest level of cooperation in the clubs history.
Duchatelet has failed by every measure.
I doubt there will ever be a manager under RD that clocks up 2 years service!
