On Tuesday she was up for the challenge. She has an air of calm about her that I really liked. I thought she would be good for us. I told her as much.

Then along comes Roland with his big size 10's and tramples all over it with that statement.

When there was silence yesterday I had a feeling there were crisis talks.

If the rumours are true that he overruled everybody and insisted that message went out then he has absolutely clusterfucked himself. Brilliant. 1 step forward and 10 steps back.

As much as I am Mr Glass Half Full - this has really pissed me off.

I'm amazed you're still Mr Glass Half Full, I've been Mr Who Spilled My Pint for the last year at least.
  • ....yet more evidence of how dangerous this man is; both to the future of my beloved club and generally, as a human being. It reinforces all of my suspicions that his 'master plan' requires the failure of CAFC. I am more than gutted as I really do fear that there is nothing we are going to be able to do to stop this runaway train. Good luck Mel in all that you do and 'congratulations' on having decent principles and the backbone to take a stand, when necessary.

I'm no employment lawyer, but could Mel pursue constructive dismissal?

I think for other than race, sex, age etc. discrimination you have to be there for a couple of years before you can make a wrongful dismissal claim.
  • Gah! Knew I'd seen this name before. All makes sense now - that chain of shit wine bars.

    MEL - BAR - ONI
  • Total respect and admiration from me. That's a big decision to make.

If singing her name at the Brum game, try it to the Macarena

    Whoa... Mel Baroni

Not sure about the dance routine though!

Not sure I can remember all the words to that.
  • I see RD as the Pol Pot of football. He removes anyone of superior knowledge to himself and replaces them with - shall we say a more basic agricultural level (didn’t want to say peasant workforce). This way he keeps ultimate control. He’s probably glad to see the back of that sassy Mel Baroni.
  • We can see she had the balls to tell Douchebag where to stick his job.

This is such good PR for our cause I could almost believe that she was a CARD plant. A new head of comms, brought in specifically because of the club's problems with communications, resigns within months of starting after the ownership completely undermines her position with a mad statement. She probably took one look at the fans inbox she put together this morning and set her desk on fire.

Well done of having principles Mel. Sorry you signed up for a shitty job.

'Resigns within months'? She was far too principled to hang around that long.

  • It seems by some sort of accident they managed to appoint a professional person, good at her job. CARD should make some sort of statement acknowledging that. I hope this only has a positive impact on her career.

Mandy Gobshite the new interim manager of miscommuncations.

But seriously. I still think alienating the fans is all part of Roly's master plan. He is up to something, he has to be, because nobody who has amassed his wealth can be that stupid.

    Donald Trump? :-)

Who in the right mind would want a job at this nut house of a football club at the moment

    That Tongue woman?
Meire's squash partner? I doubt it.
someone should tell @tonguetweets that a young woman trying to make a career in football has been driven out by an old man ignoring her professional ability in what seems a very sexist way.
I'm intrigued - What was the seemingly sexist / discrimation issue that you are claiming them to have been part of ?

    Where there's blame......
PL54 - I think Henry is referring to the fact that KM's supporters (aka only herself and this silly moo over at tonguetweets) have stated that KM is only being hounded because she is a woman and if the CEO was a man there would be no protests. So by that logic RD going over the head of the female Head of Comms by posting his own statement (since by all accounts there is no way Mel would in good conscience would have allowed this to be posted if not directly ordered by RD) then it can equally be claimed a male Comms Heald would not have been treated this way.
    @Redskin read this.

When this was is all said and done and they've left the building. There'll be some cracking stories come out.

Agree. If Johnny Jackson ever writes a book it will be a hit as he's been with us through so much clownery in his time at the club.

Johnnie was also at Notts county when that whole Munto finance takeover craziness happened. Agreed, it will be some book!
  • Hi Henry this link is worth a read:

    https://www.crunch.co.uk/blog/small-business-advice/2011/05/03/probationary-periods-the-myths/

She would have or has got a good case, the time served is non relevant and damage to reputation and prevention of future employment oppertunities are both active.

If she is smart she will have already took them for a big compromise settlement number if not she perhaps still could.

The relevant part of that article is surely this:

"If you believe that your dismissal is unfair and you have 2 years service with your Employer (from your original start date, not from the end of your probationary period) you can bring a claim for unfair dismissal to an Employment Tribunal. You can bring a claim for discrimination to an Employment Tribunal at any point in your employment, from day 1, you do not need to have 2 years service if you believe you have been discriminated against."

Despite Henry's tongue-in-cheek comment about it being sexist, there's clearly no discrimination here so I can't see her having any grounds for bringing a case as she hasn't had two years service.
  • This will only make Katrien feel more vulnerable and isolated. She can no longer hide behind a head of Comms and will find it extremely difficult to appoint a new one.

  • Deafening silence from Sue Parkes these days....

I suspect Mel would have advised her, for her own wellbeing as well as that of the club, to shut up. I would have if I had just started in a comms job. Will be interesting to see if she starts again now Mel's gone.
Suegate was in mid Jan, before Mel took up the post. Many people at the time suggested that Sue should shut up, as far as I know she did? So it's a bit much to criticise her for doing what was suggested. I should point out that even though she is a friend, I disagreed entirely with her opinion too.

While, as I pointed out at the time, she speaks for herself not Chris or the club, all the time mad Roly is in charge it would be difficult for her to come out and criticise the regime without putting Chris's job in peril, recent actions by RD show us how unstable he is, he could easily blame Chris for it. I know at least one other of Chris's relatives who is vehemently anti-regime, but has to keep their counsel due to the position they find themselves in.

Seeing Jacko at Sparrows Lane, when they played at home to Millwall in the U21 just after Riga took over again. I said you must write a warts and all account of your time at CAFC in a few years time.
JJ said he would, when the time was right.
I thanked him, and went back to watching the game.
  • I have read most of the posts on this thread so I'm sorry if I've missed this but there seems to be no announcement on the club website. Ignoring the irony that I don't know who would announce the exit of the Comms Manager on account for the fact that we, suddenly, have no Comms Manager, has anyone seen an official statement from the club of Mel herself?

If so can someone share a link please?

    Thanks
  • Mel Baroni may even write her own memoirs. Titled 'I did it my way'

Now that is fantastic, might be worth tweeting it to Johnnie.
  • Apart from the reality of having to pay the mortgage i bet most of the staff at the club would love to down tools and leave the mess behind them.

If ever there was a strike justified by staff on the grounds of protecting customers it would be thus.

Could they all have a case for constructive dismissal on the grounds that their jobs have become untenable. Think of the poor staff told to handle the new email account and no Head of Communications.

This regime will eventually burn up from within, has Mel lit the blue touch paper.

So that's where @colin1961 has been then, busy writing the foreword to this.

Might be helping Karel Fraeye write his autobiography as well.
Better proof read it - I should imagine it's littered with typos.
