  • Just my opinion but i don't think Tex is as good as some make out, much rather have Bauer.

He wants out and we want him out. Wages are putting off clubs no doubt. I'm sure he will go on loan to St. T ? With Charlton picking up the lions share of wages. Another bad piece of business by the regime.

Tex was only a bad piece of Business because we got relegated, he was signed to try and keep us up and was never going to manage that on his own.

Along with Buyens and Bulot he's the best Network signing we've made in my opinion, a great Defender!!
Good player but still bad business by the club. 4.5 year contract on high wages that we couldn't afford if relegated and a player with no desire to remain in league one.

We can't shift him. What does that say about our deal with him. He's not so good that other clubs are prepared to pay what we have even on loan. Makes us ridiculous yet again.

  • Where's his throwback to the nil nil draw at home to MK Dons?
  • Sounds like he was trying everything to get a move away even though he should have known what he was getting himself into by signing a long contract with a side in the relegation zone.

No sympathy for him at all I'm afraid

He was probably trying no harder to get out than RS was trying to get rid of him in fairness. RS for practical and financial reasons perhaps, but Tex will be fully aware the club are trying to move him on post haste. Can't really blame the bloke for wanting out, in fact if anything I find it laudable that he'd rather be playing somewhere and taking a potential pay cut than sitting on his backside raking in cash for no effort.

I don't know about you but I can't see RoJo having the same kind of passion and integrity somehow...
Yep, I can. Sign a 4.5 year deal with a team in the relegation zone, you go into it knowing you might be playing football a league down the next year. If you don't want to play in the lower league that much, make sure there's a get out clause in the contract. If not then suck it up. Now, if Tex comes into the team and gives 100% effort then good on him, but if he's not bothered then sod him.
  • He'll be gone in January. If I'm honest I can't see him featuring between now and then unless we have a crisis.

Truly one of the biggest cock ups this regime has made and there is a lot of competition.
  • I should imagine it's more a case of Charlton wanting him (his wages) out, rather than Tex wanting out.

He's better than most of our players at the back but I'd be surprised to know why many don't think he'll feature.

I don't think he should get in ahead of Pearce, Konsa or Bauer. He'll be gone in January and certainly don't think he should be in the team because he's on a good contract.

I know "anybody" could be gone in January. He is a good player, but doesn't warrant a place just because he's on the books.

Absolutely laughable to give him high wages and a long contract when any idiot could see we were as good as relegated.
  • He won't feature because of a mysterious niggling injury. Loan in January.

You would not bet against it.

Might it not work both ways ? If we are challenging for promotion in January might RD and the player himself decide that he should stay to play Championship Football that might at that point be confirmed 4 / 5 months later on or perhaps sooner ? He could have a hand in seeking to achieve that . He is a footballer employed by us and hopfeully that is what they are all trying to achieve. After all he would still have 3 years left on his deal and he was signed for that purpose .

    Completely agree.
  • Ridiculous contract given to him - par for the course sadly.
  • Agree with pretty much everything @kings hill addick has said above. Don't blame Tex one iota for signing his deal or expecting the club to stick to it. Only one person to blame here and that is KM.

Hopefully he'll still have a desire to play football rather than just sit back and take the money. He's undoubtedly one of the best centre backs in the division and could help us to promotion if he's willing to put the effort in and RS is willing to play him.

  • Taking the goals he scored towards the end of the last season out of the equation as well as our stupendously small squad, is Tex really that much of an asset to us?

    Yes, see above.

Given the signing of Pearce, along with the developement of Konsa, he is certainly one of the players we could have afforded to lose. We now have 5 CBs capable of starting in this division and RoJo too.

That said, he is still an outstanding player at this level so would be silly to freeze him out.

Taking away his complete lack of footballing ability and abuse of fans, is Roger Johnson really that much of a deficit to us?

Come on, what sort of question is that

thing is, we have struggled to get rid of him in this window and he hasnt played. Surely if he doesnt play now for 6 months, it makes him even harder to get rid of come January with no-one wanting to take a punt on a guy who hasnt played in 7/8 months

given, as the only team that would then buy him would be.....us......
  • Seeing as he is on our books, surely the only test that applies is the 'is he twice as good as anybody else in this league test'. I think the answer is yes so Slade has to play him!

I suspect that he didn't, especially, want to come to us but SL wanted rid of him and we were desperate. We gave Roger f**king Johnson an eighteen month deal because we were desperate and Teixeira's Agent obviously was as good as negotiating as Johnson's. How we were bullied into giving Teixeira a four and a half year deal at 29 is beyond me but I suspect that RD or KM believed that he'd keep us up and it was worth it.

As for the player he would have known that irrespective as to what he does from now on he is guaranteed the full value of his contract - unless he waives it, and why should he? So he is guaranteed to be earning very good (I assume) money until two months short of his 34th birthday. Why would he ever give that guarantee up? I, seriously, doubt that he will be offered more than we are obligated to pay him and as the months, and years go by, that becomes more and more true. If he goes out on loan we will probably have to pay some of his wages all the while the 'value' that he has that can earn him a permanent deal diminishes.

At the risk of making statements that are not popular and, possibly, untrue I suspect that he will not be willing to move if it involves a pay cut so we are probably going to have to release him on a free and give him a payoff to compensate him for the reduction in wages and/or contract term. Something tells me that KM is the only person on the planet that would sanction a deal that guarantees him the money he in on until he is 33 years and 10 months old.

The question is if we are stuck with him what do we do about it? Bauer is probably more saleable and could justify another contract like the one he has with us so they could sell him in January and keep Teixeira. Thankfully the club haven't sold 'better' players and kept the rubbish - they have, generally, moved on the crap that they have landed themselves with so maybe they will pay Teixeira off in January.

However, I thought he was a good player last season and he must be way too good for this division so if he's fit I'd play him. Just an issue as we now have, arguably, five of the best ten centre halves in the division.

Agree with nearly all of that especially that Tex will know that he's on a good thing here so why leave? We could also be back in the Championship for much of his contract.

I disagree about the 2nd to last para about not selling the better players. We sold JBG, Cousins, Henderson and Pope and loaned out Watt and Igor. Sure we also moved on Sarr et al but the core of our better players left as you would expect for a relegated club (although Bolton only sold one major player I believe).
Yeah, you're right, they have sold some of the best players - probably for the transfer fee as much as reducing the wages. It is my understanding, also, that the players that have left wanted to go, rather than us 'pushing them out'. What I meant, though, is that they might try to keep some of the better, younger, players and push Tex out rather than accepting that he is going to stay so we sell Bauer and/or Lennon and Konsa to equalise the wage bill.
