I’d say this is pretty much 100% accurate 👍🏼🤣🤣🤣🤣
Terry says the wrong player at times....Gilbey broke up a pass yesterday and he said it was Foster-Caskey....there is a few inches dfference in height there....but I do like him and Brownie
There is an art to commentating. And it's so easy to be critical of those who try their best ... so I will.
Steve Brown's ex-pro insight is superb. And I like his observations on the tactics being used. We disagree about Jaiyesimi, but I'll forgive him for that.
But he does need to let the viewer ... well ... view ... a little bit more before giving us the benefit of his opinion. We can work a lot of things out for ourselves, so he doesn't need to comment on absolutely everything.
The more elderly here will remember the opposite end of the spectrum ... Jim Laker in the early days of televised cricket coverage.
Laker would often go for several minutes without saying anything (and, yes, I know that wouldn't work in football, but you get the idea). He was the master of minimalism.
Who can forget his perfect summary of the first session of play in one Test Match? "An interesting morning. Full of interest."
Other highlights for me on the Valley Pass commentary?
Well, I do look forward to the first airing by Tel of "gets something on it", while Greg's signature line of "Charlton win a fro" is another highlight.
Let's be sincerely grateful for what the boys do, though. In the absence of being able to attend, this season's coverage has been a lifeline for many of us.
People will moan that our commentators are too biased or that Brown gives us too much information. Personally I like what he provides. I like it a lot. I can see how others don't.

Lol I wish I could blame his age but he’s always done it. Come to think of it, so have I. Clearly a family thing 🤣🤣
I like Brown a lot, but agree with others that it does border on too much chat.
I've never just listened to VP without watching the stream too, but I'd imagine you could miss quite a bit of the action while Steve is analysing a thrown in from 3 minutes prior.
His analysis is superb, but that's what it should be - analysis. The ratio should always be heavily weighted to commentary, with analytical snippets in between, not the other way around.
As he doesn't start every sentence with the word "Listen" like Rio Ferdinand and because he isn't Jake Humphrey (who starts every sentence with the word "Look"), he'll do just fine for me.
I am in awe of his knowledge and appreciate his input but maybe he should find a way to shorten his comments, at present on occasions, he is bubbling and effervescing over in the exuberance of his own verbosity.
I really like Greg's commentary style and always have. Not sure what his background is and whether he has played the game to a decent(ish) level, but he always appears to read the general shape and flow of the game very well. Whereas Terry is generally a bit more 'in the moment' and much more partisan (not a criticism).
I remember one game towards the end of last season at home (we were either behind or drawing and needed the win) when Greg commented how Charlton really needed to make a tactical / personnel change to shift up the pattern of the game, and shortly after I think Bowyer tried what Greg suggested. It was an obvious point to make in a sense, but it wasn't just what Greg said, but the way he said it and his timing - he sort of put into words what I was thinking and feeling, and it stuck with me.
I'd go so far as to say Greg could have a career in commentary if he wanted - I think he's in his mid twenties, but I find he talks with a maturity and insight beyond his years.
I think the three of them are a great balance - Terry the blinkered passionate fan, Brownie the ex-pro describing the moments and patterns of the game through those eyes and experiences and Greg the more objective (but not always or boringly so, thankfully), analytical, 'professional' journalist.
Add to that the quality of the overall production and studio aspects of the show, and I'm almost regretting having to go back to the games in person - I'll certainly miss the shows. I wonder if the club can somehow bring some of the content to the live experience via the big screen or app, or maybe a post match highlights, MOTD type, show.
Whatever happens on the pitch this season, and putting to one side all the ownership stuff, I suspect this period of watching Charlton will be one many of us look back on with fondness - plus many will have seen more games than ever before, albeit it's never the same on TV.
We don't know what the future holds for the matchday streaming once fans are allowed back to the grounds properly but if Custard TV continues what I would love to see would be a full Stevie Brown match deconstruction where his detailed analysis can really come to the fore without the possibility of missing any live action.
Just think:
Custard TV Monday nights at 8pm ... "The Post Mortem" with Scotty and Browny (and possibly with another guest e.g. Morts, Nelse) where they review and analyse the weekend's fixture. If there's a midweek match they can preview that as well.
Then, on Friday evenings, a proper preview show like the old "1905" that Olly used to present with Finchy.
Throw in a midweek "Memory Lane/Reminiscence"-type programme (or general Charlton chat) with a Charlton legend(s) and that would be well worth a few bob of anyone's money each month.

Listening to TS at the Bromley Addicks' meeting recently, I got the distinct impression he wants it to continue. And not just for overseas watchers (which presumably with a VPN could be any of us). In fact, he seemed quite put out when the Chairman of the meeting explained that under current rules games couldn't be shown at 3.00pm on a Saturday. His reply to that was something on the lines of "well maybe we need to change that".
There's clearly a huge amount of effort and resource gone into providing such a wonderful presentation. To simply just throw it away when fans are allowed back would be mad.
I'm happy to listen to Brownie waffle a bit, most of the time his insight is excellent. It makes you wonder the quality of tactical and positional coaching that the Chelsea academy do when Maatsen and De Silva rock on like play station footballers.
Both Greg and Terry are excellent too, both affable. Sure they're partisan and make mistakes, but for the majority of the time they're efficent and add value.

Not if it's detrimental to the physical match day attendance. That has to be paramount.
Brown does have a habit of interrupting too. Even when Terry was reading out the scores he was trying to cut in. Overall I enjoy it but if Brown could just tone it down a bit it would be perfect.
Generally it’s good. They would benefit from always having monitors - otherwise they are occasionally telling us something happened which the viewers at home can see didn’t. There was an incident on Tuesday when Brownie was saying there was no replay being shown, implying the incident had favoured Plymouth, whereas a replay had been shown.
They also need to remember that some are just tuning in for the audio on VP, so they should be regularly giving the score, and also ensuring action is described as much as possible.
But Brownie’s insights have been good, and Tel/Greg mostly do their best not to get too partisan (“We’ve done it Tel!”)

Argument has already been done so won't repeat it here. I'll just say I suspect you are a healthy, young man who lives fairly local. Getting to games is not an issue for you.
But there are many who don't fall into that category and in 2021 with the technology available they should have the chance to watch live by streaming games.
It’s good to get a pro’s insight, particularly one I hold in such high regard, but it did get a bit tiresome for me today. Of course, he’s passionate about us and wants us to do well, but I found his summarization of the fact that Ipswich will be much the happier with the point, a little too blinkered.
It’s not just him. As good as it is to have Scott Minto and Curbs and all these other ex pros involved in Valley pass, their contribution is a little too rose tinted for me.
I’m grateful for them giving up their time and putting on an excellent show with the way they delve into old stories, but I’m looking forward to getting back to just watching the games from the stands
We all want to watch the games from the stands ..... if only!
Cast your mind back a year ago, Cabbles. Okay, lockdown had kicked in and there was no football anyway.
But we were under the dead hand of the ESI shysters, no money, transfer embargo - and soon Lyle Taylor was going to refuse to play for us, just when his goals would have kept us safe in the Championship.
The future was bleak.
And so, 12 months on we have a new owner; one who has thrown his heart and soul (plus large sums of money) into changing the club for the better. Including setting up Charlton TV and the Scott Minto Show.
Personally, I really appreciate what we now have, rose tinted and all. And I'm sure most of us on here do too.

I get that, but if the option was there for everybody, all the time, it would negatively affect actual stadium attendance.
The 3pm shutout needs to come back, in my opinion. It's essential for the survival of some of the smaller, lower league teams.
I tend to think that people who go to games will continue to go, and those that can't won't and so streaming will have a future. @Briston_Addick has put forward a thing that I would pay to watch, especially if it was added to the price of a season ticket.

As soon as we're allowed to (safely and without too many restrictions) I want to be back in my seat in the top drawer of the Cupboard End.
If I had the opportunity I'd probably then watch the game back later.
I don't travel to away games outside of Norfolk (it's enough of a trek going to the home matches throughout the season) so I'd love to be able to watch the side on a stream.
There have been enough comments on this forum over the last few months on how impressed people have been with the overall presentation, the chemistry between Scotty and Curbs, and the variety of wonderful guests.
However, I think this is a discussion for the main Valley Pass thread instead of making the Steve Brown thread look a bit scruffy ...
It made me laugh when Forster Caskey scored the feee kick against bristol and as soon as it went in instead of saying wow what a great goal he immediately went into how the Bristol Rovers wall was in the wrong place, priceless.
I've mentioned it elsewhere on here, but for those that like to listen to him "Waffling on", he does a weekly podcast with Benjy Nurick, Called "Browny & Benjy". Comes out every Wednesday..............

He's in my squad of 25 since I started going in '76.
