  • I love him as well. If I saw out the window him walking down my road I'd quickly run out and put my pants over a puddle for him.

  • edited February 2015

It would be my wifes pants, but the thought would be there

He is manager of Huddresfield end of story ......

When did this happen Colin? Thanks for the update.
  • What price Chris Powell swinging on crossbar at Jimmy Seed end ?
What price Guy Luzon doing Tunnel Jump ?
What price CAFC fans start slapping each other over this ?

Perhaps Luzon and Powell could do the crossbar thing. It's about time The Valley had a swingathon
  • big cheer and probably a standing ovation when he walks out of the tunnel, then he's the oppo manager and that's all.

all this clapping on the 3rd minute, embarrassing....

    This.

    Exactly right.

  • When does this obsession with Powell stop. He is now the manager of an opposing team. Move on....
  • I don't understand the point of clapping a former manager during a game with his current team. Seems to end up as being disrespectful to our players and that's regardless of whether or not we like or dislike the Head Coach, CEO or Owner.

But clapping a well loved and respected former player, manager and Gentleman before and after the game seems entirely appropriate - and it would be rude not to IMHO.

No one player, manager, coach, CEO or owner is bigger than the club - and it's the club we follow and cheer on isn't it?

  • I think a big warm applause as a welcome and thank you when he comes out, and a goodbye when he leaves, is all Chrissy would expect.

Anything else in the game would need to be unambiguously an anti network thing, not a Chrissy thing.

I think something interrupting the game would probably embarrass Chrissy, how does he react, he is manager of Huddersfield, he can't respond, would you want to see your manager having a love in with the opposing fans. I will clap along with everyone else if it happens but, it risks being a bit embarrassing with mixed confused messages.

You'd rather not witness Charlton play than see people applaud an ex- England international and title winning manager for Charlton.

    Weird.

And you're only coming because we've picked up form? Bit fairweather...

The bit I have a problem with and I doubt I am alone in this is the whole 'during the game' bit.
    It won't happen.

He will get a heroes welcome before the game. It's the fact some people have a problem with that which is the sad thing, the same way the same people always felt embarrassed, cringe just because his nickname began with Sir.
Well, I hope so. But there is the references to 'in the third minute' which is where I take issue. Before, after the game - yes. At ANY point during - hell no.
This 3rd minute appreciation for CP was a suggestion put forward from the floor at the Trust public meeting last week as a form of expressing the growing disenchantment of fans to RD / KM. Not so sure that those joining in will be aware of its original intention or that with back to back wins and recent loan acquisitions it would have as much effect now.
That hardly means the person who suggested it there owns the idea. I'm sure it had been mooted here earlier. I find the idea that one minute's applause (out of 90) taking place after kick-off rather than before it somehow becomes a negative rather silly. It might be different if there was some proposal for a continuous gesture during the game. If people wish to clap Powell in the third minute then it is no business of those who choose not to join in. You don't get a veto.
  • I have a huge amount of respect for Chris Powell for what he achieved as a player and a manager with us. Warm applause before the game then go and get the 3 points.
  • The guy deserves a warm welcome, whoever says he doesn't has a very short memory. When he played for us he was 100% committed and gave his everything, the same as when he was manager. He would be the first person to highlight his own downfalls, did he screw us over? No, did he drag us out of that horrible League One? Yes.

He is a Charlton Legend and always will be.
  • No way can we have a 3rd minute clapping SCP , the players will lose concentration have their mind taken off the game and it will lead to us losing 3 points
i'd much prefer the mandatory minutes silence we have in the 3rd-4th-5th-6th minute etc etc

and let's boooo our team like at ht against norwich because they've not turned back since the wrath of The Valley shook them to the bones and gave them the wake up call they've been looking for

clapping , booing , cheering whatever it wont make a difference whatsoever

so Udders score in 3rd min and you get up and clap.

This could turn into a civil war.

Normally i only wear my tin hat at the Den.

Agree, can see a lot of barnies Saturday, he'll get a clap pre game from me and that's it.
Jeez - one @razil is more than enough.....
Is this why the Trust are looking for volunteers on Saturday? To give out all the Barney masks????

Why does everyone have to row about the slightest thing. Whinge bitch bicker.

He will get a very warm welcome when he comes on to the pitch whether some like it or not. And probably most likely get his name chanted when he leaves. Very unlikely during the game so I wouldn't get too upset.

Why does it have to turn into a bitchfest? You lot are worse then old women. And plenty of divs on Twitter too.

    Thanks for joining in......

But this is a forum so we discuss things, form opinions, discuss them more and hopefully agree or agree to differ.
Personally I don't want to hear applause in the 3rd minute, I find just the thought toe curling, but if the more clingy elements of our support want to, then knock yourselves out.

  • from me : a big warm welcome and loud applause before the game, may clap him off at the end but from the start of the game until it finishes he is the opposition manager. if anyone starts clapping in the 3rd minute or a stand up for Chrissy Powell then I'm sorry count me out. Hopefully we'll score in the third minute to confuse matters.

    bang on largey

  • Two weeks ago most were only turning on Saturday up because

    1. It was cheap
    2. Chris Powell was returning to the Valley.

Now the match may be sold out and we can't even agree whether to clap a Charlton legend or not.

Roly must be laughing in his boots at how easy it is to win over Charlton fans.

Powell has more football class, integrity and dignity in his little finger than the entire Belgian network experiment and that remains true whether we win 3-0 or lose 3-0.

My Nephew and friends who live on the south coast are going because it's cheap not because CP is coming back to the valley.

95% of CAFC fans will clap CP to the Dug out, as well as clap him afterwards.
The only argument seems to be in the game.

My Love for my team overrides any respect for Ex managers( for Chris i have loads)

That is your perception of Roly and you may be right ?

The alterative of getting behind the team is seeing CAFC keep losing and go down the divisions, say to League 2 and Then Roly walks away with a big loss ?

I have not given my emotional efforts in supporting my team over many years to want them to lose ! just so Duchatelet walks away.

  • I have not had time to read through this thread, but I am fully expecting CP to receive a standing ovation as a Charlton legend the moment he comes out of the tunnel. When the game starts it will be total, and I hope noisy and continuous support for the team. Can it really be anything different ?
  • I'll do a one minute applause for Charlton, and an 89 minute applause or SCP.

The three minute stoppage I'll probably be booing us as we are losing.
  • I'm gonna crouch for the 90
