1. Virtually everyone will applaud warmly before the start.
2. Virtually everyone will applaud warmly at the end.
3. About half of the crowd will applaud again in the 3rd minute. The other half will think this is OTT.
What I would love, and I mean really, really love - is to go absolutely crazy welcoming him back for his 2nd spell as our manager at some point in the future. For a Chairman that backs him. Where he isn't fighting with hands tied behind his back. May be very unlikely, but I won't ever stop hoping.
You'd rather not witness Charlton play than see people applaud an ex- England international and title winning manager for Charlton.
Weird.
And you're only coming because we've picked up form? Bit fairweather...
The bit I have a problem with and I doubt I am alone in this is the whole 'during the game' bit.
It won't happen.
He will get a heroes welcome before the game. It's the fact some people have a problem with that which is the sad thing, the same way the same people always felt embarrassed, cringe just because his nickname began with Sir.

I'm with you on this one AFKA,
Before and after but no way am i will stand and clap Sir Henry Irving during the game
I was talking football last night to to a cab driver who was delivering me to Dublin Airport. On the mention of Charlton he immediately spoke of Mark Kinsella and pointed in the general direction to where Mark had lived and played as a boy.
I was happy to tell him that Mark was considered a legend at the Valley - in fact his return (as a Villa player) led to the biggest standing ovation I’d ever witnessed. I have subsequently researched this and found a Guardian report containing this sentence.
There is a humility about Charlton, too, that Villa would do well to learn from. Kinsella, returning to the club where he played for six years before moving to Villa Park last summer, was given an impossibly warm welcome. ( http://www.theguardian.com/football/2003/feb/24/match.sport1)
I was proud to be a Charlton fan that day because we did the right thing. I’d like to think that we’ll do the right thing for Chris Powell too.
'There is no club where the player-supporter bond is stronger than at Charlton '
Bloody 'ell. The golden days!
And I remember it, that was some reception, had all my hairs standing that one. It's what makes Charlton unique, and for someone that doesn't clap or cheer Powell tomorrow I'll do it twice as loud to make up for it.
How any Charlton fan can not have huge love for the Charlton legend that is Chris Powell is bizarre to me, he represented our club proudly with class and dignity for all four of his spells at the club.
Personally im hoping for the day he returns for the 5th time as a Charlton employee.

Well, I hope so. But there is the references to 'in the third minute' which is where I take issue. Before, after the game - yes. At ANY point during - hell no.
Crikey - if CP gets an applause in the third minute then what would Riga get in the event he had come back with Blackpool. As the man who kept us up and improved us massively with Powells players - I assume a lap of honour round the pitch followed by a ceremonial naming of the East Stand?!
Look - CP is a big part of our history. For me a clap as he takes his place at the dugout then on with the game.

Riga only got to do that because CP got us promoted & kept us up.....

This 3rd minute appreciation for CP was a suggestion put forward from the floor at the Trust public meeting last week as a form of expressing the growing disenchantment of fans to RD / KM. Not so sure that those joining in will be aware of its original intention or that with back to back wins and recent loan acquisitions it would have as much effect now.

Indeed. Yeah Riga and Powell are the same. Definitely. Yes Damo you're right. Can totally see how you can compare them. Definitely.
I don't get all this powell is not a good manager comments. Such a bad manager winning the league with record points.
Hmmm we spent Cash's cash and had a squad that would have been competitive in the Championship so we should have been there or thereabouts. As I said he's a top fella I'll give him a cheer but he ain't exactly Curbs is he?
I'm not going to try and dissuade you from your view mate but let's not forget he wanted to strengthen and build on the first season 9th position finish in the Championship mindful of SSS (second season syndrome). He had identified players to improve the side further but the finance rug was pulled from under him and we ended up with bargain basement signings up front in Church and Sordell.
He was well and truly shafted by the chuckle brothers and further shafted by Roland's modus operandi. We'll never know if he'd have kept us up or not it is all pure conjecture. He couldn't work under Roland's ideology that's for sure and was better off out of it. And before anyone says Riga succeeded where Powell failed, well actually he also refused to play the Network misfits and was so well thought of by RD by keeping us up with CP's team, he wasn't given the gig at the start of this season!
But that's what happened. Riga had the same squad as Powell. But Riga kept us up. Powell picked the team, ignoring the owners recommendations, that tapped out in embarrassing fashion in the cup Quarter v the Blades. Powells team played hoofball to Yann every bloody game, it was dire. I think those that have donned the rose tinted spectacles need to remove them and take a look at the table when Powell left and 5 matches after Riga took over. By all means give him a cheer (I will) but please try to leave it there any more would be a bit sad TBH.
Ok, you didn't like his brand of football but he could only work with the resources he had and I don't recall Riga's style being that fantastic either. What JR did do though was pick his matches and the fresh approach he brought was born out by the upturn in results can't argue with that.
Let's also not forget the postponements caused by the pitch and the cup run conspired to work against him as other teams at the bottom picked up points whilst all we could do was look on with games in hand. He was a victim of circumstance and that didn't make him a bad manager by wiping out a very good track record overnight.
CP stood by his players who failed him miserably at Sheff Utd but from what has come out since, it seems his time was up anyway. And I've already said what's to say he wouldn't have kept us up, we can keep going round in circles until the cows come home on this so I'm out for some shut eye.

You act as if Powell took over in July 2013, had an awful six months as manager and are forgetting the previous 15 year strong association he had with our club.
I can certainly say, that anyone who would describe Chris Powell is a "bad manager" knows absolutely nothing about football. You are most likely blinded into a world that's completely unrealistic with bizarrely strange twisted expectations that could only be described as un-human.
Your glass is half empty when you win The lottery
Nothing to do with what Chris Powell is like as a person.
That second season in the championship wasn't going well at all. CP is responsible for a high margin of that, but realistically, there were a lot of other factors involved outside of his control as to why we were sitting near the bottom of the table, more often then not.
I think the best thing for us to do is score just before the third minute so everyone is too busy celebrating to be bothered if people do or don't clap.
I just wanted to dispel the complete and utter nonsense that Powell was a bad manager:
He'll get a very warm welcome from me.
Yes and Mike Baileys at the top. Dont tell us much does it? I don't recall anyone saying Powell was a bad a manager. My opinion was that he wasn't that good, we were heading down with him at the helm there is no doubt. Also if he wasn't Chris Powell we would have been calling for his sacking weeks before it happened.
But all of this is still ignoring the fact that he's had a 15 year association with our club leading up to that moment. He'd been through the highs and lows with us all and throughout it he maintained a level of respect and dignity that I would hope embodies our club.
That's why I'll be clapping Chris Powell on Saturday.

Big reception for him before and after. I'd even be tempted to do the 3rd min applause. Legend.
I wonder, after you guys left home, did you ever speak to your parents again ?
Oh wait!
