You'll walk into the watermans arms and hear a mighty roar.............
What a song that was.3 -
The Watermans went in the early 90's, a cracking little pub.Pringle said:The pub opposite used to be alright. Shame it went. What was it called again?

Yes it was. I worked in there briefly as a barman when I was at uni - John and Shirley owned it then.ElfsborgAddick said:

The Victoria is a pretty sorry sight, when did that close? Strange that it's been left on the corner to (literally) rot, I took these photos on Tuesday1

Good photos - what a pity the distinctive Truman's signage and plaster eagle can't be saved. When I walked past, the facade on the Woolwich Road was leaning backwards.0

It's a lovely building and would have a steady client base of technology college students if it reopened0

When you walked in towards the bar, if felt like you were pissed, also the pool table had bricks under it, to level it.Viewfinder said:Good photos - what a pity the distinctive Truman's signage and plaster eagle can't be saved. These seem to be the latest plans, the building itself seems to be listed0 -

Interesting, though you'd think it's too far gone to be saved. Have a look at the fourth comment following the article: references to the Victoria's role in early CAFC, written in a mescaline-fuelled stream of consciousness akin to Jack Kerouac.2

Group of us from Charlton used to turn out for them on a Sunday morning.killerandflash said:The Victoria is a pretty sorry sight, when did that close? Strange that it's been left on the corner to (literally) rot, I took these photos on Tuesday
Great times.
Fred (Karluke? Sp.) used to run it.
Great bloke, and great memories.
Used to stay open on a Sunday when it was early closing elsewhere.
Remember on Sunday meeting there for a game but having no transport. He threw the keys to his transit out the window and said "if it comes on top, don't forget to take the keys out if you have it on your toes".
Had a cup game once, losing 3-0 at H/T, treble substitution involving Wayne Burnett (Blackburn) and David Hillier (Arsenal). Smashed them the second half.
Oh to turn the clock back 25 years...4 -

That planning application was from last year so not much happening since.0 -
Frequented by Peter Sutcliffe......The Yorkshire Ripper, on a number of occasions when he was a lorry driver.ElfsborgAddick said:

If the pub on the corner is worth 3 mill - how much would The Valley be worth ?
It's the RD exit strategy.0 -
The pub has planning permission - The Valley doesn’t.
ill be surprised if it sells for that price,0 -
