All this talk about Tucudean is quite confusing really; I can understand those who are a little underwhelmed with him so far - and I've found myself getting pretty frustrated with him too.
The reason it's confusing though is he played absolutely superbly against Derby in the first 45; the lad has it in his locker, and he's shown it. I really do think he's built in the Kermogant mould and, if he could show some of that skill and determination in every match then we'd have a real gem.
Spot on! The lad is shaping nicely and he is young!
Walking to the station after the game, surrounded by Watford fans, one of their guys said Garcia did not know what he was doing and should of gone for Tim Sherwood!!!! now considering their had 14 shots to our 3, and was his first game in charge.
Harsh. Was not super_horns, who sounds like a good honest fan.
Sound like a Spurs fan!
I guess people will demand the same results as Sannino had started with but our away form has been poor generally for a couple seasons.
We actually won fair and square, even if Watford dominated, luck was not a huge factor yesterday at all.
Lady Luck in the sense that the Deeney penalty appeal would have been given 60% of the time because he got the wrong side of TBH and there was slight contact. Plus we relied on their strikers (13 in 5 games before yesterday) not being clinical.
Until this season since we have been back in the championship, the away side have always taken one or two chances which has cost us dear.
Maybe the new pitch also helps that you won't get the uneven bounce for our keeper and defenders to be wary of.
I think you're calling it right about the pitch. There was a moment in the second half yesterday, when we were under pressure and played it out along the line in front of the west stand towards Callum I think. Anyway I thought it would bounce for a throw in to Watford, but it ran very true to Callum. It is really helping our players to not have to worry about the pitch being an obstacle to what they're trying to do.
Good if fortunate win. Good points; Henderson, back four , vetokele( true fighter for the cause and focused), Wilson. Another good point was their Watford's poor targeting of the goal (this is where we were fortunate). It is hard to defend a one goal lead and we had a poor second half; Buyens and Jackson were not as effective in the second half ( I think Watford dominated midfield and re-took possession of the ball too easily) But all this is as nothing to the importance of another win against a very good side. It does wonders for confidence at home which has been lacking for years even when we won League one. Peeters has something of the fighter about him and looks for this in his players; time will tell where this takes us but bring on Wolves...can't wait.

Would love to see the crowd give Tucudean enough time and not get on his back. Wonder if we'll be a bit more positive for the Wolves game - the pressure the lads were under yesterday tires legs if it happens too often. Hopefully, we'll be able to take the game to them
Big Bob excitable at the end and nutting TBH after the final whistle. Love it.
Missed that, StevieG but Big Bob definitely seems to wear his heart on his sleeve & I love him for it !
Definitely fast becoming "one of us ".
Hmm. Standard lost again today (3-5 at home, now 11th of 16 in the Pro League; also out of Champions League and demoted to Europa League, of course). Luzon's status as head coach must have taken another hit.
...They wouldn't, would they? I don't believe in the more contrived "network" theories, but that would be real proof that the network comes first.
Sorry but didn't you read the latest G21 email? CAFC are número uno and SL are a feeder club ;-)

When I was a kid, I had a league ladder thing made out of card that you got free in newspapers or magazines. After Saturday's results, you could move these little tabs up and down the ladder. I imagine RD has one of those for his network and moves the tabs up and down according to how much the club's finances/fans/results please or displease him.
But I do think that, if our form holds up and Standard's doesn't improve, he might sack Luzon and consider moving BP to Standard - no more than that. He'd surely see how disruptive it would be. I've no idea what the Standard fans would make of it.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet (although, I may have missed it) is the amount of those yellows which came about from Igor.
He seemed to force the opposition in to making stupid decisions, just the guy we need to get those set pieces. Am I right in saying he was responsible for 3 out of 4 of their yellow cards?

You are, though the ref seemed more card-happy than the average to me - Igor has done the same thing to other defences without as many bookings as a result. I also think some credit has to go to Tucudean - having him lurking panicked the defenders into bringing Igor down to avoid the link-up; once Tuck left the ball stopped sticking up front and I don't think it's entirely coincidental - Harriot and Moussa are both tricky and quick but the ball came back much faster with the pair of them up front.

Taking a different slant, I enjoyed the interview with Katrien in the free booklet. Honest and informative, making clear that our plan is to break even financially, and rely upon selling players to make a profit. I think that after the start we have made, Roland will be tempted to invest to strengthen the squad, seeing the Premiership as a possibility. The biggest disappointment was the size of the crowd, if we could bring Darren Bent in on loan we could fill that big requirement up front, and up the crowd immediately. perchance to dream.
Interesting the different views/marks for Jackson's performance Saturday. i think you either noticed his positive contribution picking up scraps and keeping the ball moving or you noticed him when he was caught for pace. I have marked him down previously and questioned his place in the team, but thought he contributed far more on Saturday to our overall performance than in previous games. The difference when he went off was for all to see.
I watched the game on PPTV. Missed the first nine minutes due to 'technical problems' and almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw we were one goal up already. The game had me on the edge of my seat most of the time and the last 20 minutes was especially nerve-wracking. Knowing that PPTV's signal was a couple of minutes behind real time, I started to keep refreshing the Match Thread in the last 10, 15 minutes to see if they scored. Thank GOD we managed to keep the lead in the end. Solid performances from all of the back five. (Solly was class - he'd been our best player for quite a few years but I never actually got the chance to see him play before he got injured so yesterday I was really really excited to see what a great player he is) Henderson made some crucial saves to keep us in it and despite seeing Ben Hamer have a decent Premier League debut on Match of the Day, I think we have an equally good goalkeeper in Henderson and that's probably one more area we don't need to worry about too much in the future. The midfield still lacked something though and hadn't improved much since I last saw us in that first Brentford game.
Anyway, very happy we got the win. My mom asked me this morning about the final score and when I told her, she responded 'Still unbeaten aren't they? Great!' I didn't know she actually remembered that we'd never lost since August 9. I feel so proud of this team.
SO pleased you were able to see the match and a win, to boot ! You are def my favourite " foreign correspondent" Charlton wise ! It's almost impossible to believe that you have never seen our team play in the flesh !
Special plaudits to your Mum for her Charlton knowledge too, bless her.
Any chance of starting a new Supporters' Group in your country ?
I did think about starting a Weibo (China's equivalent of Twitter) account to do updates on all things Charlton but I eventually gave up the idea considering the fact that I might not have enough time to do it...
I'll ask fellow English football fans on Chinese websites to see if there's any chance of starting a Supporters' Group. Wish we were in the Premier League and there would be a LOT more people interested in us!
Great result. We've beaten another good team. Different display this week, and we showed a resolute side and battled hard. Great to get the 1st clean sheet. Back 4 were superb, and I think we have to give Wiggins the benefit of the doubt. I reckon he's lost a yard of pace from the injuries, yet he still worked hard against a sharp player. Buyens played well and I thought Vetokele was good, especially for someone who only just got back from intl duty on Thursday, you could see he was blowing a bit at the end.
Yes we gave away the ball a bit too cheaply at times, but we look dangerous when certain players get on the ball. I'm still putting faith in Tucudean, just needs to work on his strength a bit. Deeny is strong and gives Watford the direct option. That was something Watford could do that we couldn't.
We all know what the problem will be though and we got a glimpse of it with JBG going off injured. We won't have the squad to cope with too many. But massively happy with everything about this season.
You saved me typing a report - my sentiments 100%, thank you. Junior and I agreed that this is the best central defensive pairing we have ever seen in The Championship with a keeper behind them who looked so safe today! Bring it on!
Yes I forgot to mention Henderson, he was also key to the result.
Henderson, Bikey (give him the Player of the Year award now to save time), and Buyens were all immense. I wouldn't be too hasty to criticise George as against Derby he scored a very good goal and won the pen but I suppose he was the weakest link on Saturday.
Would like to know how bad Gudmundsson's injury is if anyone knows (apologies if already mentioned somewhere).
But in the euphoria of victory it's easy to blot out what might have been. I just watched the highlights and in truth we were bloody lucky not to concede.
The highlights don't show the 3 or 4 occasions where Igor was tugged back when on the break resulting in 4 yellows for Watford but no opportunity for Igor to shoot at goal. If the ref hadn't decided to even things up with silly, nonsensical yellows for us in the 2nd half I honestly think we'd have had a much better time of it.
Was in the ground earlier than normal and watched the warm up. Did anyone else see JBG take one straight in the knackers during one of those piggy in the middle type games? he was flat out for a good couple of minutes and clearly winded. Doubt it was anything to do with his eventual injury withdrawal but it couldn't have done him any good.

Agree with your comment about Igor, Rizzo, I was really excited about the way Igor can turn his man - even reminded me of Superclive's turn for his first goal at Wembley! The fouls got pretty cynical from Watford and we were well on top at that stage. But apart from the ludricous free-kick he gave against JJ in a dangerous position, I actually thought the ref got most things right.

Our first two yellows seemed to be for perfectly good tackles where we clearly got the ball. Dissent from Cousins was fair enough although the ref blatantly got the decision wrong so easy to understand a young man getting annoyed. Can't really argue with Buyens' yellow!
I really hope that Igor gets some protection from referees. If not, I fear that he'll be in for a lot of stick, particularly if we're perceived as having a one man forward line.
I remember Palace coming to kick Lee Bowyer off the park when we played them at the Valley in the league match in the 1995/96 season. I think Palace picked up six bookings, at least five of which were for clogging Bowyer. The tactics were clear - stop him and you stop Charlton.
We lost the middile after about 30 mins in imo. Thought wiggins had a torid afternoon but stuck with it and Solly got better as the game wore on. Lost something from the team when Gudmunson went off as he is a quality player. Lucky to get the win but hey ho I'll take the 3 points thankyou and we still look like a work in progress, need to bring in a midfielder and a striker.
Wiggins was back to his best - really cant remember a better left back we have ever had
Apologies. I love Wiggins, met him a couple of times and he's a smashing bloke.
But he's been skinned every game this season and was again a few times on Saturday.
If you go regularly, you will see, he's definitely lost a yard of pace, since his injuries and if Damien Matthew reckons he's fully fit then I'm not sure how he will recover that pace.
He is definitely the weak link in the defense and is getting targeted by the opposition, with balls played in behind him & players taking him on and beating him for pace.
As for best left back. I presume you're joking. Chris Powell, Scott Minto, Anthony Barness, Paul Koncheskey, Mark Reid (that's without even thinking).
Big Bob excitable at the end and nutting TBH after the final whistle. Love it.

I used to have the league ladders - think it was the one from the Tiger comic.
We have the bigger financial benefit for this season now that Roly has banked somewhere in the region of €25m from player sales at ST and we would scoop him £65m if we managed to secure promotion. So I cannot understand any logic in shifting Bob to Liege. Whereas Jose could find himself more meaningful employment!

I don't think for a second BP would be moved to Standard, that must be some form of trolling?
How many players have been brought into Charlton? How many out? Calm down.
