....and wasn't even on the bench today according to BBC Sports site.
Talk about squeaky bum time ! There was a loooong queue for the ladies after the final whistle...
Fantastic defending today & so pleased to see a very competent performance from Henders with a couple of excellent saves.
I hate to admit it, but I do agree with the majority about young Callum. Clearly a player who can" turn it on " as we witnessed towards the end of last season but oh so frustrating on so many occasions. Wonder what Bob's plan is for the lad ?
So, our first clean sheet & another valuable 3 points. Tuesday evening will be another toughie with our players having barely 72 hours to recover from a pretty gruelling 100 minutes today. I'd expect to see Joe Gomez in for Chris Solly but, depending on JBG's injury, an otherwise unchanged side starting. And I can't wait !
Onwards & upwards with Big Bob pulling the strings !
Kermorgant started today, got subbed on 70 minutes.

Well spotted, Ormy !
Must be that 2nd glass of white I had.
Interesting that he got subbed though, don't remember him ever getting subbed for us.
I'm right chuffed with another 3 points(after feeling truly ill waiting for the final whistle), but let's be realistic.... barring some titanic defending necessitated by a wholly underwhelming midfield display, Watford would have won comfortably. Only Buyens seemed to do his job in there (well for about an hour maybe). Jackson was ineffective for long periods (yet again) and Cousins had a poor game by his standards....... I know this is harsh, but BP will know we got lucky today and hopefully address the issues -ball retention being the big one. I'm sure he's now worked out that you don't bring on Callum Harriot and Frank Moussa for the last ten when the objective is to keep hold of the ball!
Played really well in the opening 20 minutes, calm, composed and disciplined. Watford had the extra man in central midfield and dominated possession from then on. In defence we were organised, disciplined and had Peter Shilton in goal. Watford had enough chances to win three games, but weren't good enough in front of goal. They have only themselves (and the overrated Deeney) to blame for leaving with nothing.
some great counter attacks from us late on. WTF were Moussa & Harriott doing?
Our passing and build-up play was excellent in the first half. Buyens is the Belgian Pirlo - La Regista. The classiest midfielder we've has since Claus Jensen.
Nice to see two centre backs that are so calm & composed in possession and in their defensive play when under pressure. Ben Haim made a lot of excellent challenges and interceptions.
Great support in numbers from Watford, but they are challenging The Nigel's as the biggest Muppets in the South. Need to grow up a bit.

couldn't have put it better myself.
had a mate there today (has been to Charlton many times but not a supporter) and he thought TBH was a class above.
As my son missed his first league game of the season (going to Rotherham to make up for it) came by train instead and left at final whistle missing the tunnel jump for the first time.

Great battling display. Henderson my MOM, but the defence as a unit was excellent.
Igor and Yoni were also great at times. For the rest they knuckled down to the task of trying to nullify a decent Watford team and then hit them on the break.
We just failed to make the game safe.
It was clearly a case of being resolute in defence but we scored first and very early. The onus was on Watford to put us under pressure - which they did. I thought we would come stronger as the game went on and that kind of happened but we couldn't make it count.
Another home win against another fancied team - can't really argue with that.
Cant help but think that Kermy would be a fantastic signing for us. Never know! Stranger things have happened.
We definitely need someone a bit more street wise tgwn Moussa when trying to see out a game.
Thought the boys were excellent today against a dirty, cynical Watford side who were lucky to end the game with eleven men. We played nice football and Bob Peeters is not going to let this side be pushovers. Henderson, Bikey, Solly, Igor and especially Buyens were immense.

That was then this is now. Loved Yann but he wanted out and I personally wouldn't want to see him back. Move on.
Is that just stubbornness?
Because there is no way that he wouldn't be an incredible addition to this current side up top with Igor.
A bit perhaps and yes we do need a player who can hold the ball up but it's not YK for me. His departure is well documented and he wanted away for his career and more money. I don't blame him but I wouldn't want him back.
Mute point anyway. Not one chance in a million that RD would sanction it.

Did he not want out because Bmouth were prepared to offer a contract that was longer than we were prepared to offer? If so, then thats only what you or I would do.
I think like Brighton we sat back and invited the pressure, although today we got away with it. I think we made Watford look better than they are the same as we did Brighton. We need to believe that we have that second goal in us and keep going forward. However, all said an done a great result and squeaky bum afternoon.
I think we can outplay these sides, so let's start trying.
Watford played a lot better end of last season at The Valley and they had nothing to play for. Fact is, today we saw a Charlton team a class above last season's team. It was stressful today but a fine, fine performance by The Addicks. Jacko struggling at this level but otherwise - really excited at where Duchatalet is taking us!
My views undiluted by other influences (posting without reading in other words).
A lovely sunny afternoon at The Valley and the refreshing sight of two top six teams playing football as it should be played on the ground rather than in the air.
Charlton took the game to the visitors from the kick off and within the first five minutes got their just reward when Vetokele was put through one on one with Gomes who brought the Charlton man down in desperation and somewhat fortuitously escaped with just a yellow card. Yoni Buyens clinically despatched the penalty sending Gomes the wrong way and as it transpired that was that as far as the scorers being troubled for the afternoon.
However there was far more to the afternoon than that. Not least a poignant and emotional tribute to David Whyte with the whole ground standing on 10 minutes and applauding with a fair few of us belting out David Whyte, Whyte, Whyte one last time too. Charlton fittingly kept the ball with some splendid passing in the aftermath of the tribute and David must have looked down with approval.
Watford were no mugs and played some lovely stuff of their own. Many Charlton teams of Post Curbs times would have buckled under the relentless pressure but other than a few shots from distance, well saved by Henderson, the move leading to the shot that hit the post closely followed by the offside goal was the only occasion I recall us being well and truly sliced open.
We in our turn didn't really work Gomes either but it was encouraging that our guys look a lot more willing to take a pot at goal this season even if the radar was slightly out.
I leave the last word with my Watford supporting mate who was with me today and sees a few of our games. "One of the best pure football matches I've seen in a while and Charlton deserved it. They are unrecognisable from last season."
(I didn't threaten to make him walk home if he didn't say that either).
I was slightly disappointed that we didn't really take the game to them but then at the same time, we didn't need to as we scored early.
Defence was brilliant, @Nicholas (TBH) and Bikey are a very good partnership and I liked how mad bikey went when Nicholas got taken out by Deeney.
Think moussa done well to take the pressure off of us with his pace and willingness to run but then put us back under pressure by losing the ball again! As my brother said though, we need to give him a chance as he's won us more points than he's lost us.
Henderson was top draw.
Looking forward to see what bulot can offer.
Am I right in thinking that buyens is one yellow off of getting suspended now?
Great result. We've beaten another good team. Different display this week, and we showed a resolute side and battled hard. Great to get the 1st clean sheet. Back 4 were superb, and I think we have to give Wiggins the benefit of the doubt. I reckon he's lost a yard of pace from the injuries, yet he still worked hard against a sharp player. Buyens played well and I thought Vetokele was good, especially for someone who only just got back from intl duty on Thursday, you could see he was blowing a bit at the end.
Yes we gave away the ball a bit too cheaply at times, but we look dangerous when certain players get on the ball. I'm still putting faith in Tucudean, just needs to work on his strength a bit. Deeny is strong and gives Watford the direct option. That was something Watford could do that we couldn't.
We all know what the problem will be though and we got a glimpse of it with JBG going off injured. We won't have the squad to cope with too many. But massively happy with everything about this season.
You saved me typing a report - my sentiments 100%, thank you. Junior and I agreed that this is the best central defensive pairing we have ever seen in The Championship with a keeper behind them who looked so safe today! Bring it on!

I'd have him back like a shot - i think he;d be perfect for what we need - plus he's known, and also knows the club- he certainly wouldnt be a gamble, which is something you could have by buying someone who is maybe not 'known'

Not that it matters to us.
All six games this season the opposition have had most of the game, yet we have won 3 and drawn 3.
The team are battling so hard. we played great stuff for 25 mins until watford imposed themselves.
Henderson was very Good today and seems calm considering the pressure we were under.
I never rated Bikey or TBH when they played for anyone else but in our team i think they has been awesome.
Bring on the wolves, And CARRY ON WINNING (was Sid James in that one)
