Less said about Harriot's cameo the better.

Here we go... Interesting you would point him out for criticism rather than Moussa who lost the ball about 5 times. What exactly did Harriott do wrong? Watched on TV and he got singled out for praise by the commentators for being sensible with possession.
  • Posting without drinking

The best team always wins, the rest is only gossip. Possession/corner/shots stats mean nothing. We scored 100% of the goals

Valley Gold draw clearly rigged as CAFC seek a reproacment with CACT

And was on Buyens at 18- 1 for first and last goal. Get in.

    What was the gate?
  • Big Bob said in the after match that Bulot will unlikely be involved on Tuesday - says he still needs to be inducted into the Charlton way, and for him to understand what he wants him to do in a game.
  • Can't say we deserved the 3 points but we stuck to the task with the outstanding players , for me, being Henderson, Solly, the two centre backs and Buyens.

I thought Watford were a very good side in all areas apart from finishing. I'm glad Forestieri wasn't playing.
  • We lost the middile after about 30 mins in imo. Thought wiggins had a torid afternoon but stuck with it and Solly got better as the game wore on. Lost something from the team when Gudmunson went off as he is a quality player.
Lucky to get the win but hey ho I'll take the 3 points thankyou and we still look like a work in progress, need to bring in a midfielder and a striker.

Because I have a history of slagging Harriot off don't I?

Talk me through his run and "shot" when Moussa was completely free to his left. The several blind alleys he ran up and his need to perform a variety of step overs when a simple pass will do.

He has no football brain at all.

Him and Moussa were equally culpable in the last 5 mins.

    Lol watched on tv
  • I'll take that. Back 5 were immense. Moussa Should've done better with those last couple counter-attacks when we were under the cosh in the last 10 mins. MOM ... Take your pick from Bikey TBH or Henderson

Wiggins was back to his best - really cant remember a better left back we have ever had

We need another option up front. The ball doesn't stick and it is causing us problems.

As much as I think there is a player in there somewhere, Tucudean is not the best foil for Igor.

As already said Bikey and TBH were great today as was Henderson. Solly started poorly and improved dramatically after Wilson came on. Best I have seen Wiggins play this season.

The really encouraging thing for me is the fact that whilst we were nowhere near the performances against Wigan and Derby, we still carry a threat. There were times last season where you just sat and knew we could play for 3-4 hours and wouldn't have scored.

Bob needs to make his mind up on the left as well. Jordan is wasted there and I much prefer him in the middle. Hopefully Bulot is the missing link there (where was he today?).

Less said about Harriot's cameo the better.

Still a great 3 points against a vastly improved Watford side.

Missing Tuesday but fancy a DRAWER from that.

    Spot on in my opinion
Come on, lets not go off the rails.
  • We lost the middle when jackson went off

I felt JJ put in a huge shift, one minute clearing the ball from our own penalty box the next linking play in the opponents.

  • Nerve wracking and thought it was just a matter of time until they scored. Seems this team is made of sterner stuff than me. Back five are awesome. Buyens is a quality player and up front Igor always looks like a goal scorer. Need that hold up striker though.

I'm not dreaming about play offs but wallowing in the comfort that relegation looks a million miles off this season. Great progress under RD.
  • My first full view of this new team. Impressed and delighted, given that I put us down to finish 14th before the start of the season. There was an organisation about us defensively that I haven't seen since the Div 1 promotion season, and with much more polish about it. The first thing I noticed was that we kicked off and nobody hoofed it forward. In fact I don't think we hoofed it forward in the first half hour. I really liked the look of Buyens even though I agree his influence faded a bit later on.

Don't let anyone tell you Deeney should have had a penalty. We were level with it, it was a pathetic dive. On the other hand somebody took Igor out with an elbow off the ball right on the edge of their box on about 85 minutes and the ref ignored it. Deeney is a dangerous player, but I'd much rather have Igor in our shirt. He must have been knackered but he has the ability to turn the defender and be clear on goal in an instant. But we need someone else to distract defenders, otherwise he's going to be kicked and elbowed off the park. I dont think George is the man for the job.

All in all a very happy expat Addick, heading off with the family to celebrate in the traditional way , at the Yak and Yeti.

OK - Celebrating with a tinny or 2, dont go banging on about SCP

A Watford fan summed it as I left the ground at the end. "We looked pretty at times, but your boys were just more organised". They passed it around us, but seldom through us. I thought the game plan was spot on given the penalty arising from an early lapse when Watford's defence were caught cold. I thought the referee had a decent game.
  • Damo - was on holibobs for the Derby game. Really hope he proves me crap as a judge of footballers

Moussa wasn't free, he had a player in front of him. Harriott had every right to have a shot and did well to make space to do so.

Oh right, the classic stepover criticism. Good one.

He ran the ball into the corner as he should. He gave the ball away once. Moussa had BP smashing his water bottle on the floor - twice. So why would you pick out Harriott?

"He has no football brain at all" does sound like you have a history of slagging him off.

    Lol watched on tv
I live in Hong Kong. It's a bastard of a commute.
Actually being there I have the advantage of being able to see most of what was going on. Not just where the camera goes.

You seem to be basing your argument on some praise from the commentators.

For what its worth, I really hoped Harriot would push on after his form at the end of last season. He hasn't and is regressing.

  • A bit surprised about the praise for Wiggins. He seemed to get done for pace all afternoon. Rest of defence superb. I thought the ref was pretty poor, but at least his eccentric decision making seemed to be impartial.
Couldn't believe my ears when Watford sang 'Your grounds too big for you', but 'You've only got three stands' was a good comeback.

Do me a favour... You seem to be basing your argument on stepovers. The one example you've given isn't even true. I have the advantage of seeing the whole pitch, with replays, and not being blinded by damning Harriot as having "no football brain at all."

Wilson 7.5 - thought he played really well when he came on. tracked back well and some lovely bits of skill - looked better going forward than in the past. Would actually play him out on the right and Gudmundsson on the left, given that the latter is supposed to be such a good crosser of the ball, and think Wilson better option than Cousins

Agreed. Solly seems to be a lot more comfortable playing with Wilson and I think Wilson is wasted on the bench, one of our most passionate players so it's a shame to see him on the bench. On the left we are weak, Wiggins was better today but Cousins doesn't offer much and can't cross. Would rather see JBG there playing on his preferred left foot. Also think JBG is solid defensively so don't think that should be an issue.

I'd like to see Bob play 4-5-1/4-3-3 against Wolves.

    Henderson
    Solly TBH Bikey Wiggins
    Wilson Cousins Buyens Jackson JBG
    Vetokele

I think Igor is good and strong enough to play up top on his own.
  • JBG prefers playing on the right.
  • Excellent 3 points in a hard fought game, Watford may be disappointed to come away with nothing. First glance their turned down pen could have been given.

Watford are a strong side, but would hate to watch them every week, horrible nightly team, it's possible we won't play them again till 2016 at the Valley ... Too soon if you ask me.

So far this season we have had nothing but tough fixtures and there is another coming up on Tuesday. ... Well done the players and bob.
  • I think like Brighton we sat back and invited the pressure, although today we got away with it. I think we made Watford look better than they are the same as we did Brighton. We need to believe that we have that second goal in us and keep going forward. However, all said an done a great result and squeaky bum afternoon.

I think we can outplay these sides, so let's start trying.

Good post and I agree. Was frustrating to watch at times. When we did move the ball we did it very well, we have nothing to fear, we are a very good team.

JBG prefers playing on the right.

Has he himself said this? I thought he could play either wing and the very reliable transfer markt says he prefers the left. ;)

Would much rather see him on the left with Wilson on the right till Bulot is ready to play (if he's good enough)

90% of that game was played in the Charlton half - expected to win it in the first 20 minutes, then expected to be at least 1-1 by half time, but weren't (thanks colin)...don't know how we won it whilst apparently not keen to hold on to the ball for more than 2 passes in a row. But we did we did we did!

    Henderson my MOM.

Unlike others on here didn't think Solly was back to his best until the last 30, and in the first half he looked off the pace compared to his performances of season before last..
  • Thought we held on well. Big shift from all defence today and a couple of excellent stops from Henderson. There was a moment in the second half when a Watford player went past Solly and he caught up, overtook, got the ball and took it forward again. It's cameos that like that that liven up the game. Thought Watford were really menacing and would have had a point or even 3 if theor strikers had had more shots on target.

Class from Watford fans clapping on 10 minutes as well. I have to say I thought we were going to concede in the last 10 minutes or so, so well done to the players for resisting Watford throwing everytthing at us.

I thought each decision the ref took was probably right in isolation, but there was no way that game deserved 8 yellows.
