Keeping Damien Matthew and Alex dyer now seems to have been a master plan. Normally when the manager goes the rest of the back room staff go as well. So again credit where credits due.

Agree. Dyer got a bit of stick on here when his role was not fully known, but i think it shows good character when your manager and best mate gets the sack that you have the professionalism and desire for the club to stay on and work with the new man.
I know he wants to stay in a job, but he could have easily told RD to poke it up his arse.
Great effort from Jose Riga and I also feel that in the last few months the true colours of the Charlton fans have come out...the 3rd min singing of powells name was a truely classy goodbye and then although it took a few games, we were singing Jose Riga's name at the Bournemouth game long before the goal.
Following the changes and Powells sacking fans could have easily got on the boards back, players clould have lost heart and results could have got (even) worse with RD and Riga the fall guys (much as it seemed the press wanted to happen!).
An amazing effort from all involved with the club! COYR!
I still think the Derby and Burnley games did not receive 100% commitment from the players or management. I think in their head they eyed up the Forest, Leeds and Bournemouth games as the ones we could win and concentrated more on those.
I've got no problem with that. Seems like a smart tactical decision that paid dividends

It reflects well on all parties
Alex and Damien for putting the team first, irrespective of their lack of security past this summer Jose for being able to build relationships with the existing staff, and clearly utilise them well SCP for not being bitter and no doubt encouraging Alex and Damien to work with the new gaffer and keep the team up (but then the only bitter thing about SCP is the lemon in his G&Ts!)
I like the cut of his jib. Someone said that Chrissy played not to lose whereas Jose plays to win. I so hope that proves to be true but I'm also almost scared of liking Jose too much because I don't want to feel upset again if we have to lose him as well. I suspect we'll be saying goodbye to Alex, so that will be quite enough for me.

This is why Im not reading into the two 3-0 defeats too much... We only seem to be failing against sides like this because were trying to win every match unlike under Powell where we'd shut up shop and maybe try and nick a goal if a chance became available (although nothing wrong with that approach)... i.e. the wins against Blackburn and Birmingham away kinda proved that
We have to keep it going and we could actually live with 1-0 0-3 sequence for the rest of the season. There is still a possibility of relegation and we def need to beat Barnsley and Yeovil and when you only score one goal a game maximum then there is always the danger of defeat, but this is so much in our own hands and last nights result sucks in Birmingham 2 points ahead of us but two games behind. I can see us and Barnsley getting out of this and Millwall, Yeovil and Birmoingham going down. relegation continues to be a possibility, but momentum plays such a big part in this part of the season.
Let the love flow Jose when his tAsk is completed and we stay up and the Millwank stains go down will be offered a rolling 12mth contract with a 3 yr guarantee by then we will be 8th in the prem in a full house singing RD is the man and loaning players to liege for game time whilst taking the Belgium internationals off them in replacement and Diego Poyet will be el capitain and in double figures of England caps
Unfortunately for us England fans, Diego wants to play for Uruguay. Unless he has since recently changed his mind, which I doubt. Other than that, we can hope.. lol

Not sure he actually said in his interview that he wanted to play for Uruguay. I thought he said that he qualifies for Uruguay because of his dad, for Spain because he was born their and England.

Previously mentioned it on his Twitter and to friends, and his shinpads (not sure if current or not) are Uruguayan ones, can't really blame him - play beside Suarez and Cavani rather than Cleverley and Jones!!

I hold my hands up on this point. I thought AD was the weak link or hindrance under Chris P. I have always liked Damian M, but I think you are right, this 'team' (coaching) really seems to be working. It will be so interesting IF we stay up IF JR remains head coach/manager what will happen to them both in the summer. Interesting times ahead I think......
Next stop, two wins in a row. If we can do that, watch the confidence really grow. We may then start to see the goals hitting the back of the net. Sadly CP's tactics very often didn't foster confidence, whereas Riga's positive style will.
I like the way he's not afraid to make drastic changes in an area when things aren't going right (Up Top). Also how he's not afraid to attack home or away. The midfield trio of Jackson, Poyet and Cousins seem to be getting better playing together.
Main thing I noticed is the lack of long balls, Hamer passing it out from the back more than usual, and the midfield passing left and right rather than a hopeless loft forward.
I think CP was too close to the players and the club which didn't help him at the end. Riga has come in and just picked the best players without any emotion.
Credit the players as well for picking up their game as well.
Not wishing to befoul the memory of our beloved SCP but our record under Riga is 11 points from 7 league games (D/D/W/L/W/L/W, F3, A6, GD-3). Powell's record from his last 7 league games was 4 points (D/L/L/L/L/W/L, F3, A12, GD-9). Something is clearly working better under Riga than it did under Powell. For a start, we're conceding half as many goals and you always have a chance when you have a clean sheet. We still clearly have issues scoring goals though.
I think there are a hell of a lot of 'searching for conclusions' that simply are not there imo.
As a result, Riga's 'strengths' are getting exaggerated, as are Powell's 'weaknesses'.
Let's just hope this keeps up, and then come the end of the season we can do some proper looking back comparatives between the two regimes.
My heart stays with Chrissy whatever happens. Jose is going to have to work some magic to beat Chrissy's achievement of most number of records broken in one season. But I'll be over the moon if Riga and the lads keep us up.
Let's face it he couldn't have come in at any worse time. Bottom of the league. Huge disappointment of losing our Wembley chance to a team a division below and having to replace possibly the most popular Charlton manager ever.
He's gone about his business with quiet efficiency and dignity. Made bold decisions on the pitch and made his own luck. Well done that man.
I think you can sum up the difference between SCP and Riga as SCP was playing not to lose while Riga is playing to win. And in my book THAT is a huge difference.
I think that Dyer and Matthew still being there reflects extremely well on Riga. It looks to me that he has taken over in a position of strength and probably agreed conditions that he could do what he saw fit to keep us up.
I do agree with the point that if Chrissy couldn’t agree the footballing terms, that he had to leave. I was making the point before he was sacked that if the divide was not crossable he needed to walk. The problem for Chrissy was that if it was any other club, I’m sure he would have walked. But Chrissy loves the club/fans and takes his responsibility to us very seriously.
So probably, given the circumstances, it may have been right for Chrissy to go – but it may also have been right for the owner to realise he had a good manager and agree to his footballing terms. We still don't know the distance apart and what it was about RDs plan that Chrissy couldn't sign up to. That has to be a concern. The fact that Riga is a good manager and has done brilliantly, shouldn’t give rise to posts negatively comparing him to Powell. Riga himself has said how much he respects the previous manager. People should leave it there.
The point about luck is also true. I think we haven’t had our fair share this season so good if it evens out. But there is luck in terms of poor officiating (I don’t see that improving as the dynamic in this doesn’t help us – we just have to accept that refs are rubbish and more likely to be rubbish against us than for us unless we can make the Valley as intimidating a place as it used to be). I think we were unlucky from the officiating perspective last night – 5 minutes added time and what I thought was a soft penalty. Then you have playing luck – of course the better you play, the luckier you seem to be. I think we have deserved our narrow victories as we deserved the 1-0 against QPR in Powell’s last home game before he was sacked.
When all the dust has settled on this season, I’ll still have concerns about RD and will watch the summer activity with great interest. I will also be grateful to Chrissy for doing a good job this season in difficult conditions and a brilliant job previously and Riga for saving us (hopefully) from a position where this wasn’t a likely outcome. I won’t play Riga off against Powell – yes they have different approaches, but they have both been entirely positive (to date) in relation to my club.

All good coaches say, if you are on a bad run, defend well and stop the goals going in, then worry about scoring yourself later with the confidence you have built up.

It's all down to Karel Fraeye.
You heard it here first.
Haven't heard that one - tell us more m8
By the way it's good to hear the SCP followers giving credit where it's due - confession is good for the soul it is said!
