Let's face it he couldn't have come in at any worse time. Bottom of the league. Huge disappointment of losing our Wembley chance to a team a division below and having to replace possibly the most popular Charlton manager ever.
He's gone about his business with quiet efficiency and dignity. Made bold decisions on the pitch and made his own luck. Well done that man.
It also shouldn't be taken as a given that Powell would've done the same. We were in dire straits after Sheffield Utd.
Riga's achievements are huge, it shouldn't be lessened by the belief that Powell would've easily equaled his games so far. Though we have had a fair share of luck with a few games it must be said.
Yes but to balance out the lucky games you can easily point to Sheff Weds (h) - offside goal scored by Weds, Reading (a) - stonewall pen denied at 0-0, Ipswich (a) another stonewall pen denied as easy examples of where luck's not been on our side too so the way I see it any late lucky winners or late penalty saves under Riga so far only balances out the misfortunes from earlier in the season i'm sure there's plenty more examples too.

You can't argue with that. Whatever the ins and outs of his appointment, Powell's dismissal and RD's management of the club so far, you have to give credit where it's due and say well done Jose Riga. Lets hope we can keep this up.
I might get shot down for this but the decision by Duchatelet is starting to look both clinical and inspired. Certainly when compared to the last times we changed manager when threatened with relegation in 2006 and 2008.
Definitely agreed, have heard it a few times in recent weeks, haven't been to last two aways though, but generally gets good reception and he deserves it
There is no doubt chris Powell could have matched these results, but I'm sure he would have gone about it with extremely negative tactics and barely any football played.
Nice to read comments from some Leeds fans saying we played football on the floor, with the Leeds commentators also noting it . First time I've read a team saying that about us in a long while
I think you can sum up the difference between SCP and Riga as SCP was playing not to lose while Riga is playing to win. And in my book THAT is a huge difference.
For me it was never a case of the results with CP - was a great manager for us and I am sure he will go on to be - but, for whatever reason, the relationship with RD clearly did not work and that was bad for everyone. Great credit to JR that he has taken on what what a sinking and dispirited ship and given us every chance of staying up.
Simple question - Does anyone know / read anywhere whether he is even on a contract ?
Katrien came out to talk to the fans in front of the West Stand an hour before the Cherries game and when asked confirmed that Jose hadn't been offered a formal contract but was working 'on the basis of trust'.
He first priority was sorting out CPs severance package and then she would move on to JRs contract.
Fair play to Riga, taking over a from a popular guy and taking over a mess. He has done well....so far.. Best decision is to have Dervite in centre, he has been great. Also he plays the players he wants to play. He has given us a fighting chance, a few weeks ago we had no chance...
Wonder sometimes where luck comes in. I thought Powell tinkered too much and failed to play a settled side, especially up front. Jose has tinkered even more. However, he makes tactical changes earlier than Powell. But the luck element is fascinating. Maybe we could concede late against Bournemoth and Forest as nearly happened, and the pen go in last night. 6 points less, but same performances etc. We are now blaming Riga for no wins in 6 and getting us relegated. Small margins.
I still think the Derby and Burnley games did not receive 100% commitment from the players or management. I think in their head they eyed up the Forest, Leeds and Bournemouth games as the ones we could win and concentrated more on those.
Margins are fine in this league but he has adapted very well so far. Only 6 goals conceded against two team who could both be playing PL football next season.

There can be nothing but praise for Riga up to now. But what confuses me is that after Burnley we had tonnes of Powell love being resurrected and cries of how we had proof that Powell was so great. 6 points later and it just seems quieter (though hopefully that's because we have all moved on from the Powell debate and just want to stay up). Personally I saw no evidence this year that CP could have matched these results. Being blunt, it seems at present that it was the right change to make. Purely based on results up to now (and that is the business we are in). SJR is doing a better job than SCP.

Roland owns the club, he wasn't going to go anywhere, unfortunately, Powell was the one that had to leave in the circumstances.
Riga is getting wins on the board. However he is doing it, it's all about the points. He is doing a good job.
" I know the owner well we are friends he asked me to come in do a job and keep charlton in the championship "
Nothing else about his future plans
I like the fella he is saying the right things the players really like him looks like DM and AD do also
RD keep him here next season
Something had to change and that change was powelly and I think all of us knew it too

With everything in life you've got to give people a chance! Well done Jose.
