Seems harmless enough though Jim is slightly deluded if we thinks we are too good to go down. Not sure where our next goal is coming from.

How much does a seat cost in the directors box?

    Your soul.
  • Good to hear that from someone who obviously likes CP very much and knows him personally. I think it's important to put our emotional attachment to CP to one side and look at cold hard facts. We were bottom, the football had not been good for some time and CP & Roland could not work together. Something had to give.

He's not exactly known for his anti-establishment views, so it's hardly a surprise. Typical Charlton fan in that respect.

I was gutted when Chrissy got the chop but we have to support the team and that is what Chrissy would want us to. Jim's piece was correct. I am just relieved the new boss seems to know what he is doing - was a risk I didn't think was needed but we may have dodged a bullet. I still want to see a player or two come in with time running out but I think we have more than a fighting chance of avoiding the drop.
  • He also backed Margaret Thatcher.

Jim Davidson is a Charlton fan.

Jim Davidson has charltons best interest at heart and speaks like a Charlton fan, within reason, tells it like it is.

What's not to like or moan about?
  • I find nothing in the article which suggests Mr Davidson is any different to the vast majority of Charlton supporters. We are all desperately disappointed that we have lost a manager who is Charlton through and through, but life does go on and the only thing that matters at the moment is that we avoid relegation. End of.

You needed a full stop at the end of that sentence. I know it's Sunday, but I don't think Jesus can help.

R D MUST be backed in the short term at least, there is no alternative .. if all our best players and/or any profits are allocated to another club in the R D stable, then it will become a different matter

Not really into his comedy and he could do half a set on my socialist views, but I actually like him more as he gets older. Or I get older?

I broadly agree with what he says and think his loyalty to the club laudable.

To be blunt - why does JD's opinion matter anymore than any other Charlton Fan? 'Cause he's been on the telly? Should we wheel out Gemma Arterton for her view? (Any excuse is fine with me)
  • If you read the article then JD is just saying what most people would say.

Nothing controversial. Seems a quite sensible article.

The most important thing in this article as far as I'm concerned.

“Chrissy Powell was man enough to say to this owner ‘no, I want to pick my own team and I want to play the way I play’.

“Unfortunately, the owner doesn’t want that. The owner is the owner.”

So it's actually confirmed that Roland douchbag wanted to pick the team?

It confirms that Rolly bought the Club and wants to run it in a certain way, CP did not want it run that way ... exit stage left! Its what happens when organisations are taken over. As JD says The King is dead, Long live the King.

Ps When I read that he had met Kate, the Benny Hill music went off in my head!!!

There's a difference between the owner running the club and running the team though. Or at least there should be.

Fair enough point of view from Jim Davidson I think. Sounds like he doesn't fully agree with how things have gone, but recognises that the owner is the owner and there isn't a lot we can do except get behind the team and support Charlton.

To his credit he said: “Charlton fans are great people and I’m sure we’ll support the new owners as long as they have Charlton’s best interests at heart. If we sniff that they don’t have Charlton’s best interests at heart then there’ll be trouble.".

I suspect that's where most of us are - a little unsure of what the future will bring, but pleased that we have a future. To quote Jim again: “First of all, you have to thank Roland for buying the club, otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation, we’d be saying ‘what a shame Charlton doesn’t exist any more’.".

It really is time for us to stop looking for conspiracies and concentrate on supporting our fight out of relegation; that's what matters right now. The time for fighting battles over the owner's plans can come once the relegation scrap is over.
