We are all miffed because he did not sign a contract so that we would have made millions on him. That was Tone's fault, the big prick. Diego has a talent that could keep us in the play-offs so I hope we resign him.
I certainly was not fond of the TJ / MS era, but cannot ignore the fact that they saved our club and got us out of League One. I genuinely believe that had they the money to pay DP to commit they would have done. I am glad they decided on the future of the club, and didnt gamble it against the signing of an untried, untested youngster with a famous surname in the hope of a good transfer fee in future.

You are dead right. They did not have the money to offer him anything, and barely had enough to pay him for first team appearance bonuses towards the end of their era.
Poyet is a quality player, and he would grace any Championship side.
Roland had long enough to sign Poyet up, in my opinion he was always keeping his options open hence why he only signed a 2 year contract in the first place. The same thing happened with Jenkinson pre TJ/MS and looks like it might happen with Gomez too. As for Diego coming back on loan? no thanks.

Am i the only person who thought that by going to one of the poorer prem teams he would be playing every week. Diego must of assumed this, or why not go to a higher rated prem team and bide your time.
Was it just internal politics why Poyet only got involved with the first team after Dale went to Brighton.?
Would it not effect the dynamics of the group if he came back now.
Good to hear that Katrien say they tried to sign him with the proviso that Cafc would not stand in his way if a good offer from a prem team came in. Meaning, we would get two million or so instead of a development fee.
Being MOM in your first two league matches, this is when they should have got him signed up. even if they had to put him on a par with the top earners at the club(still not that much)
If a player won't sign a contract no matter what (sensible) offers we put in front of them, what more could RD have done?
Not waited to the end of the season when he had so many more options on the table. If Roland and Katrien did try earlier then maybe it was just too low an offer.

£15k a week wasn't it?
15K a week was the figure that Yann wanted so the rumours would have it. Have not got a clue regarding Poyet ? It would of been a lot lower, i would imagine.
10k or 15k... it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if West Ham had offered double. We had hoped he'd use his head and realise regular football with a decent pay rise would be his best option but that's not the way Diego saw it.
Well Callum, Lets Hope that Joe Gomez see what Happening to Poyet and stays with as at least for two Years where we can give him an improved contract to protect our asset which we have nurtured from a young age.
So many Young English players get moves to prem clubs only to lose there way.
Zahar played over a 100 games at palace yet still could not get a look in at united.
The grass is not always greener, even if your paid a fortune to watch it grow!
Why do people assume that there was something going on behind the scenes as to why Diego did not play before he did? He was 18 when he made his debut, it's still young?
A more experienced football league player in Dale was at the club and above him in the pecking order, Dale moved on and Diego replaced him. Why has this been highlighted in the past?
He would improve us but realistically I'd only take him if it meant we would 100% get promoted otherwise it weakens us for next season and since there are no guarantees in football best we don't and he gets the chance to reflect on his decision.
A retrograde step for both parties - it won't happen. We also now have Yoni Buyens, who has been very good so far.
The Poyet rumour probably only got traction because of a tongue in check comment by someone here on Charlton Life. The reference to Brentford reinforces that view (only Wigan are missing from one of the early the Delort triumvates......).

Might be wrong (now that'll be a first), but seem to recall Pooyet saying that he wanted to wait until the end of the season before comitting himself. Personally, I saw nothing wrong with that, as we were in real danger of dropping into L1. However, after staying up I hoped he would show a bit of loyalty, but not the case.
Don't want him back. I said it at the time he left and I'll say it again. He's dead to me.......................
Of course I'd have him back. He's a young lad who looks like he's made the wrong career move right now. I thought West Ham was actually a good choice for him but then they've signed better and more proven players ahead of him.
Buyens and Poyet midfield pairing would be brilliant
When he signed for the hamsters, if the agreement was made then that he would be loaned back to us for the season, I think everyone would have been happy. I'm not sure if I want or we need him back.
I got the impression he never wanted to be tied down to a long term contract from the start, even when he was 16/17 and nowhere near the first team.
Following last season he then wanted the next step up so went to a Prem club where he felt he could play regularly, rather than in the u21s of a top club. He probably still believes he'll get his chance later this season and prove himself when he does.
It now like there's a bit more competition for places than he would have expected at the start of the summer.
Gomez now seems to be in a similar position. Like Poyet he may be thinking he can be a regular by the start of next season and after that he has the option to move on.
Football wise, I Think having Poyet back would be a great asset. I think it would not be good for the squad though, Poyet turning up on bigger wages then other young Charlton players (who are also his friends) would be detrimental to the squad in the short and long term.

Playing With Stevens not instead of.
No conspiracies then. Just not thought to be as advanced as the above players by the coaching staff.
I have asked this before, if I remember correctly it was to SHG after he said the same thing, but he could not tell me where this was confirmed.
(Correct me if I'm wrong @ShootersHillGuru )
Just want to know why this has been widely regarded as a fact ...
