He ain't as good as people are making out. All he ever does is pass the ball back, you watch him closely. It's like
    he is scared in possession

That ball to sordell on Wednesday was one hell of a backwards pass...
Lol! What a fantastic pass that was, as good as anything Stephens played at his best for us.

1:30 here for anyone who didn't see it:

One of the strangest noises I've ever heard from a commentator at 1:53.
  • Would love to keep him at the club. Will be a top top player over the coming years.

I hate to be rude. He is very good, he really is, better than most players we have, his bravery is clear and all that, but he is nowhere near a complete player at all, which at his age you woulnt expect him to be... But I don't think he can advance himself as well here as at a bigger club.

Having said that that's the kind of thing Barcelona would look to sort out. Hopefully Diego will be fully bought over by Rigas Corgi system or whatever. But I won't hold my breath because to me it sounds like bollocks so I can't imagine many of the lads will be impressed.

It's a different ball game trying to get young talent like Poyet to sign than it is oldies like Jackson. Poyet is looking forward whereas someone like Jackson will probably be looking back, and looking to see out their career, and Jackson clearly loves charlton.

I wish Poyet the best of luck and hope he stays but I think he isn't as amazing as some make out (and he's probably my favourite player at the moment) I just think he's suffering from "academy affect" which Jordan cousins had on him for ages. Basically watch two players, one academy, one not.

Every pass the academy player completes you will hear clapping, whilst it takes something more special for non academy players. I remember cousins went through a period where you could come home to him shagging your misses and some would still feel they had no choce but to applaud.

Good luck Diego! Please stay but I'd love to see you do well wherever you go!
  • Seem to recall several other chances in the Hudds game that are not in that YouTube clip; e.g. the goal bound effort Sordell deflected away.
  • Everytime I see that disallowed goal, I still see nothing wrong with it. Yeah Morro bundled into Smithies, but only because he was being shoved by their No5 at the time............
  • We would like him to be here next season of course, but he won't be.

Would have signed a contract by now and secured that possibility.

We are making the most of his abilities while we can by playing him every week.

The club are just a bit stupid for allowing this outcome to happen.

Only likely to get a fee because the player is under 21.

Richard Murray, once again, clueless. Said in that crappy "meet the board" video, that we would be keeping hold of our talented young players and not allow a repeat of the Carl jenkinson sale...unless it was for a big significant amount of money from a rich club such as united of course, as you do...no confidence it what he says...it is quite sad now really.

I hope, for Diegos sake Barcalona snap him up and he goes on to exceed our expectations.
  • This!

Mind you, if he plays every game this season, does'nt he get an automatic pay rise and contract extensión?
  • I think he will benefit from another year of guaranteed first team football with us, so with the football knowledge he can call on to advise him - I think this will be the most likely outcome. I think we'll offer him a very good deal - maybe not as good as bigger clubs but big enough for an intelligent lad to be happy. The big issue is that this scenario will only work if we stay up - playing in League One is not what he needs.

But wouldn't that mean we don't get a fee? Might be wrong, but I don't think development fees apply if the player moves abroad (going by my experiences of playing far too much FM)
  • Rumour has it, he will be signing a new contract this week
  • I like that rumour, assuming it is a new contract with us!

    .
  • Who has?
  • Diego signing would be a massive boost for the club, full stop. Fingers crossed.....
  • Just seen where the rumour came from, I will not get excited yet! Not saying it is wrong, but certainly not a guarantee.

He's quality and I have no doubt that he'll play in the Prem and Internationally. Saying he looks scared in possession is complete nonsense imo. He's very composed on the ball we'll be lucky to keep him.
  • Poyet will play at a higher level than Championship. The one issue that may hinder his progress is a lack of pace over the short distance BUT his awareness, tackling and passing may be enough to compensate. After all Bobby Moore was no sprinter but he didn't do too badly!
  • It would be great to think Charlton Athletic will provide Diego with an incentive to sign.
  • Would be thrilled if he signs a new contract with us, can't see it happening myself. Hope i'm wrong.
  • Would be amazed if he stayed with us. He's way too good for us and I'd want out of Charlton at the minute if I was a half decent player.

    Where???

I won't agree with that if we hang on to our championship place.

He's proved he can hold his own at this level, but any prem club would be signing him as a prospect, rather than a first teamer I reckon. Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be in his interest to stay here for the forseeable future. We've done alright by him up until now. He's said himself, he really didn't expect to be playing 1st team football this season, so as a club, we must be doing something right..............

Agree with the Flash. In fact I'd take it one step further, and I don't care if people think this is naive. If I was a young player, who was obviously going to move on to better things, I'd want the club who invested time in me, nutured me, and gave me my chance in Pro football, to be rewarded very well financially. Therefore I would sign a contract, even if I knew it was likely a year or two down the line I was likely to move on. This would effectively be a thankyou to the club. I await to be shot down.
