  • No, he definitely went to Eltham College. My old school and we had a quick chat about it at the Sponsors evening. Dulwich indeed!
  • Sorry scoham, i think we agree on this.

I was answering KHA's query as to why he wasnt offered a contract Pre-RD

I also think one has been on the table since the takeover

As a comparison, does jack colback owe sunderland any loyalty? Why shouldnt he just move to newcastle on a free? Why didnt sunderland offer him PL money when they thought they would go down?

limited evidence - I'll give you that though. At the moment we are certs for relegation. No, bear with me...I am saying that to be a team that has a chance not to get relegated- we will need to sign a decent manager, Poyet, Morro, Dervitte and Hamer. So when we tick these off the status will change. Then if we add to the qulaity of the squad we can move up the scale to the point where we can say we are likely challengers. We are firmly on the relegation part of the as we stand today. Hopefully we will be moving up in the weeks to come.

That's the spirit, write off next season when technically this one sill hasn't finished yet
I think you have misunderstood my quote - I am saying where we are now with nobody new signed up or external signings. There will be some, and we should review where we are on the relegation - challengers chart as things develop. If the season started tomorrow - which it doesn't - I am just saying without Hamer, Dervitte, Morro and Poyet we are relegation certs. As things change I will review.
I take your point, Muttley - but presently, we are not the only Championship club with several key players out of contract and many already told they can leave ....... I would guess, there must be at least a dozen Championship clubs in this position, with one eye on FFP.

I know you're only being hypothetical - but they can't all be relegation certs!

  • Oh I should add also, so people dont think I am in cloud cuckoo land, if i was Diego maybe I would do the same.

I did use the word partisan in my original post. Of course I am unashamedly biased in my viewpoint. Football is changing and I am preaching outdated morals and ethics I know.

I do think its the start of a slippery slope though, if Clubs lose their Hot prospects for nowt to a big 4 subs bench.

To my mind, its only been youth prospects such as Palmer and Defoe that we have had to deal with before.

To all those saying be realistic, dont blame the individual, I see the logic but as partisan supporters why do we have to be logical?

Take a chance on us Diego, we wont let u down ;)

As for Morro/Dervitte - I think they have different attributes. The defence sees to lack organisation when Morro isn't playing but Dervitte is an excellent defender. I would be happy if they were our main two next year. I have a feeling Poyet is going to go to Sunderland - we can hardly prevent them tapping him up. And that one won't be Rd's fault.
I guess you have analysed all the other squads and out of contract players in the league?
No, but you get to see quite a few watching football for 40 years and you get a decent idea of good players at this level - which Dervitte and Morro most definitely are IMO.

Eurosport have just done a list of 10-or-so players they feel could be the next England breakout youngers.

Diego Poyet gets a mention alongside Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City players.

No wonder Poyet is named there, it's by @liamhappe

    Good spot, Scoham.

But I doubt that Poyet would sneak under the radar.

He has of course been involved in all the England youth set ups - Prem clubs would already be well aware of his ability.

  • If he has a brain he will sign a 4 year deal a d be sold in january for big pesos, if he doesn't sign, in my book he is a bigger idiot than scott parker. Can you imagine if parker had stayed and got us in the champions league his worth and wage demands would have quadrupled.

  • The 10 was actually put together by both myself and englandyouth (worth a twitter follow) I was leaning towards strictly 18 or younger but having more range with a few 19yos was definitely the right call as was keeping it one per club.

But fantastic show of faith in Poyet's ability to earn plaudits on his own merit, Scoham ;-)

I saw this today in a Sunderland newspaper on-line. Gus was giving an interview about being linked with West Ham, but insisted he is staying at Sunderland, the article then went on to say -:

Part of the reason why it has been claimed Poyet would be tempted to take over at West Ham is because his family is in London.

But he rubbished that suggestion: “The only reason my family is in London is because my son Diego is in London and my wife is there for him.

“If Diego left Charlton and moved to Borussia Monchengladbach, my family would be out there.

“He’s 19, though, and soon it might be time for him to look at living on his own.”

So he is not saying Diego is going to Germany, but to me the last line about living on his own can mean, his wife will join him in Sunderland and leave Diego down in London on his own, or Diego will move on (abroad maybe) and have to be on his own after while?

    Thoughts?

Quotes taken from The Shields Gazette
  • I'm not sure. I try not to read too much into it. It's natural for a parent to say things like that. 18, 19 is usually the age when you leave home for university/college so you're expected to be able to live on your own at this age. I'm glad though that reading his words, it doesn't seem very likely that Diego will move to Sunderland to join him, which I'd been concerned about.
  • Perhaps we can tempt gus back to London to be with his wife and Diego.
  • Sounded to me like he meant his wife moving up with Gus and leaving Diego on his own in London.
  • In SLP yesterday it reckons Derby are leading the chase for Diego ? I'd be mightily pissed off if that happens.
  • If the SLP was accurate we would have signed steve sidwell and Hayden Mullins about 10 times by now lol

Haha yes I guess so but it's so off the wall you wonde if maybe there's some truth in it ?

  • He had the chance to go to Sunderland and didn't, so I don't know why he'd choose Derby.

Funnily enough I said to CE a few days ago that I thought he'd be a great signing for Derby if they went up.

I reckon your girlfriend's best mate will get her to dump you if you start tittle tattling his business on here... haha.

  • Just a bit of a update on Diego the club offer is way short of what he wants. Diego wants to stay for at least one to two years and was hoping Riga was staying.the boy agent thinks the club are looking for a quick million or two through a tribunal. but he's agent wants charlton to come back with a more serious offer. I got this from good sources but I hope it not all true.diego is going for 10k and the club offer is 3k
