I believe Duchatalet will do all he can to make them sign, whether he then sells them in January/next summer is yet to be seen.
I view Duchatalet as like me when I play football manager, you have players you like, but at the end of the day, if selling a player for £5 million is enough to mean that you have finances for promotion next season, you go for it. Remember that Duchatalet doesn't really attend games, he has no real love or affinity to Charlton like previous owners may have.
This makes the decision to sell a much less emotional one, and almost all of it comes down to a business decision. Ultimately I think we will be a stronger club under him, but we might lack a little bit of soul.
Basically, make sure you fall in love with players like Pigott and Evina, not Hamer and Poyet.
You're right, this is exactly the same as you playing Football Manager.
One thing i will always love and respect jonjo for is that he signed a new Deal to ensure we got a better transfer fee for him
If poyet walks on a free he is automatically diminished in my very partisan eyes.
Any chat about unhappiness with the club is a feeble excuse to use circumstance to cover up the reality.....thanks for the memories but im off at the first opportunity. We can offer first team championship football, that should be enough.
I dont see the comparison between our loyalty to a 14 year old that wont make it and a youth prospect that goes onto make the first team.
If every youth prospect from a non PL team went on a free after 20 appearances then the gap would continue to widen and show the have-nots youth schemes to be largely pointless.
A move abroad I could understand and easier to swallow. A move to a Sky Big 4 would be soul destroying for us fans IMO. I also think it wouldnt be the best for Diego.
Of course one solution to the whole issue is to make the compensation figures more realistic, perhaps with an Index for games played and weighted according to division. The root problem being that currently PL teams can take a punt on ten youth prospects in the hope one might come off. This needs to stop.
I would now put Dervite as our best CB ahead if Morrison based on his performances since Powell left. Not sure why but he now looks so much more confident. Some of his use of the ball up at Blackpool was PL class.

We could do better than any of our current squad, we were not down the bottom for nothing ... but we could also do worse.
Obviously we don't want to lose Poyet, but that has been taken out of our hands. As for the rest we can only judge any decision to let Morrison or Devitte or whoever go, if it happened, by their replacements.
Obviously, based on January, the track record is not good!!! But i ma hoping we will learn by our mistakes (for our please read Roland)
To be fair I don't think there was too much wrong with our defence. The problems were all further up the pitch. I would be very happy to start the season with Hamer, Solly, Dervite, Morrison and Wiggins.
RD asks Poyet what he requires in his contract to make him sign. Poyet says hmm, rumours splurting around arsenal and barcalona are interested in me, theres not much you can do Im sorry. I have really enjoyed my time at charlton though.
In walks Katrien Maire, she comes in handy every once in a while.

RD can offer two contracts though, one for the Championship, the other in a Permier League with potential Champions League experience. Is the delay due to Diego or RD?
I bet he is waiting for the outcome of the new Manager, I have feeling he might sign if we get someone good. He is a sensible lad educated well at Dulwich school so guess we have a chance as we are reasonably local to his parents house.
Dulwich??? Personally, if I was Diego's agent, I would be asking for a larger percentage of any future tranfer fee, over and above the 10% normally given when the transfer is not sought by the player. That way, if Diego continues to improve, a large transfer fee would suit both parties, and if he doesn't improve, then he gets a little more of not much anyway! For the CB's, we have to presume that we offer them a decent contract, and that other teams do not offer significantly more...It is a case of us wanting them, offering good terms, and them committing, not just one side or the other deciding who stays and who doesn't.

Not sure he went to school in Dulwich
eltham college .His name is up on a plaque outside the Mervyn Peake library honouring his selection as an England u16 level player.
limited evidence - I'll give you that though. At the moment we are certs for relegation. No, bear with me...I am saying that to be a team that has a chance not to get relegated- we will need to sign a decent manager, Poyet, Morro, Dervitte and Hamer. So when we tick these off the status will change. Then if we add to the qulaity of the squad we can move up the scale to the point where we can say we are likely challengers. We are firmly on the relegation part of the as we stand today. Hopefully we will be moving up in the weeks to come.
That's the spirit, write off next season when technically this one sill hasn't finished yet
I think you have misunderstood my quote - I am saying where we are now with nobody new signed up or external signings. There will be some, and we should review where we are on the relegation - challengers chart as things develop. If the season started tomorrow - which it doesn't - I am just saying without Hamer, Dervitte, Morro and Poyet we are relegation certs. As things change I will review.
As for Morro/Dervitte - I think they have different attributes. The defence sees to lack organisation when Morro isn't playing but Dervitte is an excellent defender. I would be happy if they were our main two next year. I have a feeling Poyet is going to go to Sunderland - we can hardly prevent them tapping him up. And that one won't be Rd's fault.

But he bided his time longer than he had too. Because of his contract increase on a first team appearance Jiminez and Slater couldn't afford for him to play and so he was kicking his heels when he should have been on the pitch. As soon as RD rolled up he allowed Powell to pick him. If RD didn't takeover Diego would be off in the summer for sure and you'd be none the wiser as to his ability and Diego wouldn't be Player of the Year. That's the reality.

I guess you have analysed all the other squads and out of contract players in the league?

By quoting only a part of my post you dont get the logic of the overall point I was making.
I am aware of all of those factors and you are right, the gruesome twosome are most blame worthy.
Still the takeover did happen, diego did win POTY and thats why he should either play on or at least do a Jonjo so we get a decent fee.

We could have offered him a new contract before Barcelona or Arsenal showed interest though couldn't we?
It is, in my view, a bit rich to offer him nothing until he get's offered a lot more to move and then demand that he signs a contract with us so that we can get a fee for him - which must mean reduced wages for him from the club that are paying the transfer fee.

We always used to Muller them at football but they are an excellent Rugby instituition
