Roland will be "right" if he continues to back the club financially and let the manager sign and pick his players without interference. That seems to be the case this season and it's working so far.
Roland was "wrong" when he thought Koc, Ajdarevic, Thuram, Nego, Reza and Piotr would sufficiently replace key players and then undermined the management when they weren't picked.
Has he already learned a lesson?
I honestly think he only brought them in to keep us up and that was it, which Is why other than Polish Pete they all came from his clubs, he did not want to spend money if we got relegated so they were brought in for a quick fix.
Yeah because those players were instrumental in keeping us up. Good replacements for Stephens and Yann...
Anyway, that's gone. Let's just hope we don't have a repeat of that January farce.

Yup, he, or his advisors, underestimated the strength of the English Championship and this time he's definitely learnt his lessons. He's to be applauded for his determination to see us succeed and listening (via Katrin) to the fans, the revamped Valley and the caterers is a class above! Couldn't believe that there was real ale on offer!

This. I've said before from his point of view his advisors who he trusted would have recommended these players. Powell wasn't winning and never gave any them regular games (even Adjarevic was in and out of the team). Why would he trust Powell's judgement from people he's worked with and trusts their judgement?
We've now brought in what look like, so far, the sort of players Standard Liege would sign for their first team (obviously aside from Tucudean and Ben Haim). We'll see in time how consistent they are, but they're a clear step up from the level of player we signed in January and generally had in the squad.
Not this. He got in enough players to keep us afloat before investing properly at the start of a fresh season. Any other claim is nonsense, because we stayed up. Convincingly, I might add. I don't believe he brought many of those players, if any, as a long term solution.
I know its pointless stating it now - but imagine Yann in this team...
No thanks. Yann is a fantastic player and we all love the fella but this is a team playing the ball on the deck and doing a good job of it so far. A player like Yann would only encourage us to go long and give away possession needlessly.

Haha, behave.
Bournemouth play long ball as well then?
But thats what we did when Yann played.....you must have seen it!

I would go along with this. There has been a clear change in strategy, they've spent some serious money on the team and we're looking strong. I think the players brought in last year showed whoever was doing the scouting severely underestimated the league, and a rethink followed.

But KM already admitted that they underestimated the strength of the Championship.
Sure let's imagine a team of Hamer(gone), Wilson(better in midfield) Dervite(gone), Morrison(stuck on bench) Wiggins (cited by some as weakest link) Pritchard, Poyet Ajdarevic Hughes/Gower Kermorgant and Sordell (all gone) We don't have to, just buy last season's DVD before it sells out! Many of those players have been praised and mourned by posters but bottom line is that team lived in the bottom six last season...and fortunately made CAFC cheap enough for Duchatelet to snap us up and introduce players and a philosophy from a nation that's consistently in the top 8 in the Fifa rankings.
The best players wanted out to get more money and/or get out before the wheels fell off. They chose not to stay to wear our shirt, dig us out and help turn it around. On the other hand Jackson, Wiggins, Cousins, Morrison and Wilson chose to stay and dig in and are now part of a "top six" squad albeit very early days.
I wouldn't be averse to re-signing one or two but would Duchatelet seriously consider making offers when he has the whole of Europe to scout?
Going forwards I hope we continue to sign the right players on permanent and loan deals to keep the momentum going. I was hoping for 1.5 points per game but maybe just maybe we can continue our 2 points a game run for as long as possible... New coach, new pitch, new players but same Valley and same ol' Charlton
Yann was excellent on the floor as well. The long ball to him was due to a wanky midfield not him. Would of been brilliant to keep him.
Vetokele Tucadean Kermorgant Delort(IF)
Would rival any strike force in the league.
This 100%!
Yes to both - Yann had talent with his feet, he would've been a great addition to this team. As stonewall points out, the long ball was an over reliance on his aerial prowess.

Absoulutly spot on.
The team and the football played by Charlton last night was light years away from anything that a Charlton team has produced in many years. Roland has put his money where his mouth is and transformed this club.
Personally I think that all of the new players are improvements on the players they have replaced. On the 3 league games that I have seen this season the weak links have been the old players.
