Personally I think he made a mistake in sacking CP, but these things do happen in football!
I think Riga looks like he has potential and seems to be a good choice. I feel for him actually since it was not his fault that CP was sacked and he is going to get a lot less support than most new managers we have had. In fact the opposite, at a time when we should all be hoping he can fill a big void and keep us up.
I think Kermorgant would have gone anyway.
I have no problem taking players who need experience on loan. From anywhere else it is a loan, from Roland's clubs they are decried as rejects. Think we should give them support at least until they have played a few games. Some will be good and some will not- like loan players are!
Think that there is very little evidence to suggest that we are a feeder club! Actually I think that the idea of trading/ loaning players between teams within a network does have merit (although potential pitfalls)
I do not buy that he is trying to get us relegated! This does not stand up to scrutiny,or logic.
I think it unfortunate that he took over at a time that a Charlton legend was manager of a squad which had not been developed. I strongly suspect that a great deal of the venom aimed at RD would not have happened if this hadn't been an issue.
I think it unlikely that the guy hand picks each squad for each of his six teams! I think that if he a great deal more hands on than other owners however and we are not used to this and it would certainly not be to the liking of many managers.
Quite honestly the stuff we hear from Standard fans is to be mistrusted. He sacked the former Manager, sold some overpaid players and reduced ticket prices- they are now storming the Belgian league, selling out and in next years Champions league! Which kinda vindicates his decisions?! If he is picking their team then he is obviously doing it right!
RD has been here a few weeks - We all need to remember what was going of before he came - We were having a very bad season with a squad that desperately needed development and club in real financial peril. We had experienced a prolonged period of uncertainty and less than committed owners. RD came in, saved us from bankruptcy, stabilised the finances and loaned and sold us way better players than we would have got had the takeover failed.
Well said, we were fckd before Roland, so should acknowledge that at least. Powell was treated appallingly but that is football. If we do a Standard Liege then everyone will be ecstatic, but the whole RD thing could end in tears. Hang on to your hats!
I hope that over a longer term we all have a different perspective on this man, I might be wrong - however I doubt that I would ever want to go for a pint of IPA with him!
Reza - Missed chances, looks the part in his youtube videos for Iran, but he is no better than what Church is doing, putting in effort with no end product, and occasionally Church does have an end product. Reza needs more time for a proper assessment, but he's not scored or set up any goals, I don't think.. something Kermorgant was doing with the same team around him.
You're trying so hard to hate RD that you're even disregarding what most fans have a problem with Church for, lack of end product. Reza clearly has it as he showed at Wigan and against Brum and for Iran.

Firstly you missed the 'ocassionally'. Secondly, Reza hasn't showed he has an end product, end product is getting the team a goal, he has not done so. Church has, his goal got us into the FA Cup QF, and a few of them have got us points in the league. Rezas form/quality for Iran means nothing to me unfortunately.
Reza has done nothing to me to tell me he is a better attribute at Championship level than Church, but as I said he needs more time.. he's been handed many chances on a plate and missed them all, luck or not luck, some were terrible shots, some unlucky. We need GOALS.

On a plate!? The only shot he's really had on a plate hit the post...

For a professional striker his volley yesterday with yards of space was on a plate. He smashed it across his body and it went wide. I don't expect him to score his every chance but if you're telling me Church has a lack of end product you can't say Reza clearly has it... not in this country he doesn't. yet.
OK then, simple question: the club (just like pretty much every other club) is not currently solvent: it loses £3m/£4m each year. If you do not want the club to be run in this way to save money, how would you like to see it run? Or is your support dependent on the club's directors/banks putting their hands in their pockets to give away £3m/£4m each year?
Simple answer: I didn't say that. You've invented a sentiment to fit your argument. Not at all against balancing books, making cuts and so on. Being part of the great football network project is just not for me.
Ok, I honestly did not intend to put words into your mouth, but it is not invented that the club loses money each year, so the owners have to put their hands in their pockets to give the cub that money, or else it would go bust and cease to exist.
Making other cuts would be possible. So £3m a year is roughly £60k a week and, probably, the only thing you could cut to save that amount would be players. So you would be looking to cut maybe the 7 or 8 highest earners. Unless you wanted to do something maybe more radical like stopping the youth development. Or you could maybe spread it around - ask all the players to take a permanent pay cut. Do you have a preferred option of what to cut? Or would it be better to massively increase ticket prices?
For me, I would prefer to be part of a network that saves money by sharing fringe players than any other way of balancing the books that I can see.
And it wasn't hard.. nor was his QPR shot. Can't tell me someone missing this has an end product. You get ridiculed for weeks if you miss one of these in Sunday League, let alone 2nd highest tier in England lol
He needs to put his chances (of which he has had) in the goal to prove any worth at this level as a striker, because on the wing he is spending more time on the floor and chasing shadows than he is anything else
Personally I think he made a mistake in sacking CP, but these things do happen in football!

Why is it that every single one of the people who has joined this list since Duchatelet took over make comments that are resolutely pro- Duchatelet ? It really does begin to feel like some sort of organized campaign.
Why is there so much paranoia on this website?!
Actually I agree with you on that. I have seen a few posts that have made me wonder.
I am from Kent and discovered caught football like religion aged 40 so am a latecomer in most of your eyes. However I have now had ten season tickets with Charlton in three Leagues so think that I am entitled to an opinion. Hated Dowie; Jumped up and down when Pardew was appointed ( which I later regretted ) and had no time for Parkinson at all. Like CP and thought Curbs was god like.
It's not that I am resolutely pro RD so much as I don't agree with a lot of things said about the man and some of the players. In a year I may have changed my mind. There are a fair few people on here who are genuine and have similar views.
BTW this is the only forum I have ever joined and I did so because I had been following the site re the takeover. Nothing more sinister I can assure you!

You shouldn't have to justify yourself to him !
If you make a statement on a public forum, and someone comes out with a coherent argument against it I would expect the OP to explain their reasons for saying what they did in more depth. It's a forum for debate and that's how debates work.
He sold our top striker for peanuts and we have scored 4 goals in 8 games since.
IMO:
In the short term he is wrong, in the medium term probably still wrong, and in the long term possibly right.
When it comes to making business decisions he is not interested in fans' views, and boycotts etc will have little effect. He has seen it all before at Liege, and has sacked CP within a few weeks of taking over, so he doesn't scare easily.
We are 3 points from safety with four games in hand and if he cared about league position/relegation/season ticket sales etc - he would be getting suitable loans or decent players from his group of clubs.
He hasn't (yet), so my take is that he is not bothered.

Well we were after players but they all kept rejecting us , and we can't get players out side of England at the moment.
Were we? We only have Richard Murry's word on this.... so it's probably all spin to placate the fans.
Would be wouldn't it . But don't you remember Powell mention , Wickham , best and Williams . Plus swp and I miller. They all rejected Charlton/Powell .

That's quite an assumption that they rejected Powell.
Why didn't you just put Charlton then? No-one has any idea why they didn't come, might not have even been close. I would hazard a guess that the least likely reason was because of Powell, whatever you think of him it seems widely accepted that he's a decent person and hugely respected in the game. Maybe all the shenanigans going on scared them off...who knows?
Because it could be Powell or the club like you said who knows , and if Powell was that special then they would of signed no matter what wouldn't they. , nope we get tudgay.
I would imagine SL fans were saying the same 18 months ago.
Ask them in 5 months when they are in the CL and they'll say he got it right.
Yes this I believe to be true.
However I wonder what SL fans would say if they were a feeder club/ reserve team/ experiment for another club.
I suspect that if Roland can get us in to the Premiership, Standard Liege will become a feeder club for us.
i am a SL fan. If you are 1 PL I think we can accept to be a feeder club. Belgian league level is not soo hign and players leave when they are good anyway.

Does it please Standard Liege fans that it seems like we are to become your reserve team?
No, but if some players do not succeed in one team may be good for another. Don't forget that the player that come to UK from Belgium need some time to adapt. We do not understand RD

VetP. Would you like RD's network to be about teams of equals?
Your development coach said 'if the player is not good enough for the Standard liege first team and needs some experience, he can go to Charlton for experience, and if Charlton have a good talent, he can come to Standard Liege'.
For me, as a Charlton fan that sounds more like a SL reserve team?
If it was a case of collaboration and agreement by everybody, and seeing which player suits which club and the players agreeing also, would you think that was a good idea?

This is the crucial detail Seth and the one I think we most disagree on. To some people, this is absolute incontrovertible proof that Roland & Co. are intending to asset strip Charlton (despite us not having many assets in the first place) and make us a glorified reserves team. To others of us (including me) this is the Liege coach talking about what would best suit him and his club.
To the very best of my knowledge, not once has Roland himself actually mentioned similar plans, nor has any debate about whether Charlton management get any say in the matter - notwithstanding that Poyet seems set to prove that this diabolical intraclub swap shop scheme depends a lot on the players themselves anyway.

Immediately after I first saw the broadcast I felt shocked that the guy said that so publically in the BBC report, it should have been a statement for behind closed doors. Indeed I wrote at the time that if he had a chance to communicate with Powell at the impending meeting he ought to apologise if it was seen as disrespectful, and clarify things with him. I agree this is where you and I differ, would you and I agree that it would be nice to have credible clarity on what exactly the policy is?
