  • As I stated from the outset, if this and the decisions Douchbag has made have made you happy then good luck to you. But if someone wants to boycott, not renew, or demonstrate then good luck to you as well. I continued to go to Selhurst after our revolutionary 'ground share', but also knew countless people who did not attend ONE match whilst we were in exile. Its not for others to criticise either way. But I feel our club is in danger of losing everything we have fought for over many years. If your happy to stand by and watch it happen then good luck to you.
  • OK, one last comment then I must go.

If and I empathise the "IF" it turns out that RD just wants to use us as a feeder club and do all the nasty things to us that he is being accused of plotting then I will be protesting as loudly as you, probably louder.

But as none of that has happened yet I'd prefer to wait and see!
  • Fair enough D_F_T but im probably older and a lot more cynical than yourself. Just gutted to see my club sinking to such depths
  • Yep i mean all these players (0) that we have sold to Liege have proved we are a feeder club,

stick to facts guys might make your comments have a little more respect about them
  • Have thought it through all day. I think those who are saying all is ok just go and support the team and who have their heads in the sand are the embarassment.

Just the same in my opinion as those that sold out and went to watch at Selhurst. Look how long that took to put right.
  • Stick to the facts? Because we haven't sold a player to Liege yet? Wow. Do you honestly believe it will stay that way? Staggering.

Facts are: Stephens and Kermorgant sold. Powell sacked despite achieving miracles on fourth smallest (I believe) budget in division. FA cup quarter final. Foreign owners, foreign team, foreign manager. It just beggars belief. Make the most of this season, if we stay up or get relegated it doesn't matter, for the last quarter of this season will be the only chance you will get to get behind players like Jackson, Hamer, Morrison etc. Next season we will have a managers name you cannot fit into a song, and a team of loans and cast off's from Douchbags merry go round. No identity, no manager swinging from the crossbar, it will all be a distant memory.

Why is supporting your club at a perilous time in the season putting your head in the sand? 16 games left, 4 points adrift (possibly more after tonight). I would not have a go at anyone for venting their anger/frustration/disgust at the loss of Powell, he was one of us and did a good job. The fact is, we do not know know how RD's plan is going to turn out. We knew it was going wrong under Jimenez, they had lost interest. I would even go so far as to say that from the point Curbs left up until PP got sacked, the way the club was being ran, we could be accused of putting our heads in the sand across that period. I love Murray and he has given this club so much, but he made some bad decisions during that period and spent a lot of money (we didn't have). I believe we've got to see past the shock of Yann, CP and the past two months since the takeover and look at the wider picture. RD wants to bring us in line with FFP for next season. We do not know if we are going to be a feeder club for Liege, and I guarantee their youngsters will be a hell of a lot better technically than the ones we are currently producing.

Of all the other clubs in his network, I think most players would say they want to come and play at Charlton (with the exception of Liege), but even with Liege in the picture we still stack up.

I just want to lay an open message to all fans that do choose to go tomorrow night, go with the intent of supporting the team. Do not come to boo or protest at RD during the game. Either don't go, or turn up after the game and set up whatever protest you want. Get behind us getting 3 points, and create the right atmosphere.

  • Support the team. Three points. How short sighted is that!

Relegation is a minor issue compared to the future of this great club

Where does the 'if' come from? The way I read things as of today, we ARE Standard Liege's feeder club.

I'm in no way trying to dismiss that Powell has been a bit shafted. If it turns out to be true that RD dictates the team like telling Powell who to play then that won't be a good thing. I would've loved it if we could have got some wins with Powell using the players he wants since RD has come in and he kept us up. All I want to say is it's too early to write off what his intentions are. I just don't think Powell had it in him to save us this season. The new guy might.....

  • How much evidence is needed FFS. If say our owner was Simon Jordan rather than Roland what would he do to sabotage us. Well Solly is injured -good. Who are the best players who are playing - that Stephens looks lively in midfield and that Frenchie is saving them a few times too many for my liking! Now, we need a keeper who can't catch - what do you mean the manager won't play him - I'll make the **** play him. This manager is fighting me all the way, he could scupper my plan - I'm going to have to get rid! I think that might be what Jordan would do initially!
  • We've got to give the guy a chance, I am as in love with Powell as anyone, I am truly gutted. But, he has gone he has been sacked and no amount of stomping, shouting or protesting will change that. We have a new manager that has little more than a day to prepare for a game with players he doesn't know very well. It is almost inevitable we will lose to Huddersfield, but it don't make him a bad coach if we do. Like any new coach you need to give them a few games before you start to judge. It is not him that sacked chris he has just come in immediately after with big boots to fill. At the most hostility would just unsettle the players even more and make matters worse. There is, granted a small one, a chance we could stay up, why hinder our chances any more? I love Powell and wish him all the best and expect he will walk into another job, i also know that Powell loves Charlton and wouldn't want us as fans hindering the teams progress. Let's please give Jose Riga a chance, only time will tell, we have nothing else to lose and now everything to gain.

Staying up is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I can't believe that is all some fans are worried about!

  • What would have happened if RD had not taken over, I heard administration was looming. Smart newspapers have been saying there is more riches for RD (120 million) if you get to the premier league with us compared with 8 million with standard liege in the champions league. I would rather have my club in the hands of someone who is talking about financial security than losing everything. Get over CP I have been home and away and we have been awful, we are bottom. We were not doing much better with Yan and Dale. I will be there supporting CAFC.
  • I don't blame Riga - and I won't be booing him - but I do blame Roland and we are going down. I'm sure Riga is a very intelligent guy, but not intelligent enough to see what he has stumbled into. Should have stayed at Milan and I feel for the poor sod. I'll quote Airman (badly) as I believe he coined the phrase - "this is going to be the most needless relegation in our history".
  • Sadie I know you are right, and reasoned and measured, I get that. But I do feel hostility, hostility because as things stand today we are going to be Standard Liege Reserves. Sometimes hostile feeling, however negative they are, will come out. Personally I have already constructed a Jose view that he has very little integrity as he appears to be a yes man happily taking on Standard Liege Reserves, it remains to be seen if I am wrong about that, and I am prepared to admit it if I am wrong (not that what I think matters a jot). And for me it makes it worse that a person I perceive to have little integrity has replaced a person I perceive to have great integrity.
Not all of us are as capable as you at coming to terms with things I reckon.
  • get a grip plum. you know nothing about Riga, how can you say he has little integrity?

I was devastated this morning I wanted to rip RD's head off. But as the day has gone on I have thought about things a bit more rationally. We have been through hell as supporters and no doubt things will never be easy but we can't blame/take our frustrations out on a man that has just been called in to do a job. He does have big shoes to fill, it's like when a child's favourite teacher leaves they give the new one a hard time because they are not them. It is not fair to tarnish one man because he is not who we want, give him a chance to do his job. As I said SCP has gone he won't be back no matter how many of us spit our dummies out, it hurts like mad and it's frustrating and disappointing but we can't do anything about it, we can however, try and make the best of a bad situation and get behind the new bloke and maybe just maybe he might surprise us. He likes the mental training/brain exercises along with physical training, which works wonders for Mourinho so could be a good thing. Sit back and breAthe take it all in, maybe sleep on it and try and see some positives, otherwise you'll drive yourself mad ! X

I said 'I perceive', not stated as a fact, I have said it is my view, my construction, my take on events, it is a personal opinion, that's how I can say it.
You can express your personal opinion too, as you often do.

  • How do we know we're going to be SL reserves though. Let's wait and see. Maybe we're jumping the gun a bit.

Quite right. The sign of being a feeder club is not just losing your players - it's about having to play the players of the club you're feeding to develop them, keep them fit, get them in the shop window, act as their reserve team, all at the cost of your own ambitions. Selling a player to SL will happen, Roland said it would, and the rest is already happening.

Gutted, because in my usual optimism I wanted to believe it really was about each club standing alone. Yesterday proved that was bollocks.
  • Forgive me, but the evidence we are the Feeder club to SL is already here, and training at Sparrows Lane. I give you REZA just for starters.
We get the crumbs, and if we have anybody any good, they take him.

    I support Charlton.

But there has to be a line drawn in the sand when a club is just not the club it used to be.

The values, the owners, players and the fans are what make a club, not the name on a shirt.

Is this the club I've spent the past 20 years in supporting?

Do I want to support a club who's run to profit another club's future / fortunes / players?

A team who picks players not by their individual merit but by looking at their wages / values?

Players who are motivated by the hope of getting in Standard Leige's first team.

Did I grow up supporting a club with such little regard to it's fans?

When I'm at the Valley and a moron is screaming "you're sh***t" at the latest scapegoat.

Don't get me wrong, it will always be my team but little by little, it chips away at my love of football and the club.

Next season, with a manager who's put in place to play the owner's bigger interests, with a team I won't know or have any affinity with, is playing. Is that the same club I started supporting all that time ago?

It looks like Charlton, but it's not the same.

That's a good post Lurker, and sums up more or less how I feel. I also think it's an age thing to, you get older and your views change, have you ever seen the film "Perfect Match".....you may love the team/club....but they will never love you.

    Seth,

As of today not one of our players has left these shores for SL, in fact it is the other way around, SL players are coming to us. If things stay that way that makes SL our feeder club. I know the players that have come our way so far have been mediocre at best but it is early days.

Exactly Len, so lets wait and see what happens then. If they are not good enough now they are not going to be good enough this time next season are they. Plus it looks as if we will be playing 3rd tier football next season so the suggestion that our players will walk into a team in the Champions League is laughable.

Totally agree it is early days. The reality is true that SL have been our feeder club so far by sending us their cast offs. By all accounts Chris Powell has been pressured to play their cast offs, and it is that, and not money, that caused his departure so I believe.
The first of the early days starts tonight, and it had better be a win.

Indeed, and if we are relegated then there is even less chance of that happening!

Imagine Standard Liege having an injury crisis just before a crucial Champions League game and they call The Valley for reinforcements....just hours later Oxo McCormack and Pawel Abbott arrive in Brussels!
